Because it's so freaking difficult to pick out sarcasm in a message. Jesus Christ, where have the smart people gone?

I'm not sure whether it's bad or good - sure, it'll let you say things more clearly, but it just makes it so obvious - I never like '/sarcasm' tags either.
SirBryghtside, may i just say, your avatar basically sums up exactly how I feel about this whole idea.
Why thankyou
I see what you did there. Very clever.

Yes, because as we all know, humans have had the need for a sarcasm marker for thousands of years now. Thank goodness these brave entrepreneurs have finally shown us what we've been missing for all of this time.
A sarcamark would kill this joke, in the same way /sarcasm tags do.
It won't take off.
Precisely - if you're doing sarcasm properly, you shouldn't need to spoon-feed the reader with /sarcasm or the sarcasm mark. At least with italics, the emphasis on certain words helps with the tone of what's being said. A sign saying "LOOK! I'M BEING SARCASTIC, READER!" seems irritating to me.

Oh how useful this invention shall be! Mankind can finally rest now that sarcasm problem has been attended to!

I'll just drop the subtext and italics and pay for this marvelous idea.

This sounds like a brilliant idea!.
It'll catch on like wildfire becoming a BB code on these forums
They can't make us buy something which is easily used without needing to buy it.
But I personally will buy it just because it's such an amazing idea

I'm surprised so many of the escapists here think it's a good idea, I mean to go as far as to call them geniuses is a little much isn't it? All they did was make up a symbol.

Well, judging by the number of people that are using it here ironically, the mark is well on its way to becoming an Internet meme.

If that happens I wouldn't even be surprised to see the symbol being adopted in non-ironic situations as well (due to people just not "getting" the meme). Before you know it we might be indirectly paying for this symbol with the next OS or word processor you buy...
