Have you ever been playing a first-person shooter of some kind, and you find yourself in a bad situation where it looks like you're doomed to die, but then you land a headshot on your opponent and save yourself from the danger? It may have happened in a Single Player game, or maybe a Multiplayer one. Maybe you were aiming for the head, or maybe you just got lucky.

For instance,
-This happened to me just now in Goldneye: Rogue Agent. An enemy NPC was about to switch on a machine trap that would kill me, but when he was about two feet away from the button, I turned and fired instinctively and just happened to land a headshot.
-When I'm losing a shootout in Halo Reach and my assault rifle runs out, I often draw my pistol and fire frantically. Occasionally, I'll get lucky and one of these highly-inaccurate rounds will land in my opponent's faceplate. Incidentally, sometimes they manage to do the same to me.
-Sometimes I put in a lot of effort scavenging the map for all of my favorite weapons and extra armor, only to be taken out by a lucky headshot delivered by my friend firing blindly with the starting pistol. Rogue Agent comes to mind for this one.
-Lucky headshots are pretty much the only way to beat somebody who's using the USAS-12 in Battlefield 3.

What were some times you were saved by the headshot?

Happens all of the time in Gears of War. The gnasher shotgun usually kills with a headshot because of how freaking easy it is to pull off.

New Vegas. Got jumped by a Deathclaw, and managed one hit kill with the AMR as it jumped at me.

Counter Strike. I can remember multiple occasions in which an opponent with a ridiculously kill to death ratio would aim at me with an AWP, only for one of my panic driven rifle rounds to hit him square in the noggin just as they try to squeeze off a round. There was also this one time where I was the only person left on the Terrorist side, with about twenty seconds left on the clock, so I made a break for the bomb site and planted the bomb. I finished just in time to pull off head shots in quick succession on four CTs that tried rushing from different directions and scare away the fourth CT.

Counter Strike is incredibly unforgiving, but it's the feeling of exhilaration that follows those rare moments that keep me playing. I suppose it happens in other games, but Counter Strike seems to stand out in this regard because of how incredibly inconsistent my ability to perform well is.

Trying to snipe on Modern Warfare 3 I've done that a few times. Someone sneaks up behind me and I turn and fire blindly, somehow manage to get a headshot and then leg it for cover (normally legging it for cover results in me getting killed anyway...)

Modern Warfare 3 is good for these. I am looking down the scope and get hit by the guy I'm aiming at, throws my aim up and I fire out of supirse and Head Shot him. Also happens with assault rifles and sub machine guns too.

Happens all the time in MW3. When you get shot your character flinches and your aim goes up. Much of the time it results in an instant headshot if you're aiming for the crotch (which I always am).

More like saved by the nadeshot. I was at a fairly low level, and got jumped by some super mutants. I managed to shoot the grenade one was about to throw and blew his arm off. A headshot probably wouldn't have killed him. XD

My sanity got saved once while playing Modern Warfare, was having a crappy day, then last match of the day went 24-3 K/D with at least 14 of those kills being headshots with Bolt Action sniper rifle. I was in a good mood after that.

I also once managed to get a double kill headshot, by sniping a guy, having the bullet continue THROUGH a wall, hitting another guy in the head. I love luck sometimes.

In Halo Reach I was in armor lock (Shut up, its fun to use) and was having grenades thrown at me by a guy. I was going to die from this grenade pretty much no matter what but I jumped out of armor lock and no scoped the guy. I still died but it made for an awesome video seeing that my reticle hand't even reappeared yet and it looked like my dead body shot the guy.

I'm playing a Spy in TF2. My cover is blown in a tight corridor, and I'm being chased by a Pyro. I have no chance of escape; it's a choice of either run and get shotgunned to death, cloak and get easily found and burned to death, or turn and fight. Since I was using the Ambassador for my primary weapon (slower firing speed and lower damage than the normal revolver), my chances were slim, but I turned and fired.

...oh right, I forgot to mention it. The Ambassador is also the only Spy weapon (or non-Sniper weapon at all, that I know of) that can make headshots.

It turned out to be the luckiest shot I'd ever made.

In Battlefield 3 yesterday I was playing Recon on Operation Firestorm so I could put up SOFLAM to try clear some of the enemy air support. I was at the Army Outpost and scanning Offices through the scope of my SV98 when I spotted another sniper sighting on me. I panicked and snapped off a shot without really aiming and was rewarded with a headshot. I think I would have been dead without it.

On the flip side, in Modern Warfare 2 I was the unlucky recipient of many a headshot due to my habit of dropshotting, which often lowered my head into my opponent's line of fire. Whenever it happened I felt like a complete dickhead.

I love sniping on Reach to help out teammates who are about to die...I get the feeling it's also the way to be as irritating as possible, because I'm relatively good at sniping (at least compared to everything else). It's a great feeling winning against the odds.

All of my headshots are from skill >.>
I don't really play FPS that much when I'm trying to conserve ammo, I play Payday with the shotgun and in Dead Island I use mah giant hammer 'cause I'm form N'orlens. The only game I play when I could get in that position is Killing Floor and dual nine mils removes the cranium of any zeds that get close. I just don't play games where you just have to shoot the other person and dying is okay. I have to avoid death as much as possible and that means avoiding those situations because the kills don't mean squat.

Bad Company 2.

One of the assault rifles (can't remember the name, it was the second one) had recoil that almost always caused the second or third shot in a burst to hit the head, so long as you were aiming at the targets chest.

Handy.

About an hour ago on BF3. In a bit of a tight spot in a tank on Caspian Border, I only noticed an enemy support gunner running at me to plant C4 at the very last second. Headshot with the main gun on an M1 Abrahms. Good times.

Ah the AMR, the ultimate in Deathclaw disposal. Similar story here, although for me it was the unique gauss rifle; without it the unique deathclaw in Lonesome Road would have obliterated me.
I managed to save my skin with the PSG1 in RSV2; got a quadruple kill, two of which were headshots. Suffice to say I was as surprised as I was happy to not die in a wall of bullets.

When I first picked up a sniper rifle in MW3, I pulled off a couple of random lucky hip fire kills while walking around corners. It's the most kills I have gotten with sniper rifles because I otherwise suck with them.
