This happened to my entire Xbox 360 hard drive, I had to get all my save data back and get all of my achievements back. The acheivement thing was particularly crushing considering I had a few tough ones(Farewell to thee 72 hour survivor!)

I had a house sitter who deleted all my Oblivion save data. I'm still getting over it *sniff*.

I don't know if that counts.
Of course it counts! Those house sitters are positively evil, getting paid to live in your house for a week while mucking up your things. That happened to me once, only it involved not a house sitter, but a favorite pet cat.
Well she was technically paid in the ability to play Oblivion so I can't be too mad.

Gothic 3;

Blasted through about 8 hours of gameplay and looting. All gone in a single corrupt save file.

Restarted a week later, got through about 16 hours gameplay, had a badass set of weapons and just bought the Heavy Paladin armor (after many many MANY phat lootings), was almost upto the Desert when... save file corrupted.

Banished that game to the drawer of shame...
Along with 'Doom 3' and 'Resident Evil : Umbrella Chronicles.'

I once had a PS2 memory card lost in the mail (long story). If I had to guess, I'd say there was at least 1200 hours of game time on that thing, including 200 hours of Final Fantasy X and 350 hours of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time.

I didn't touch a video game for about three months after that incident. I was, to say the least, crushed.
Could be worse, I know a person on xbox live whos HDD was taken by the post office thinking it was a bomb. It was held for 2-3 months.

While playing Soulcalibur III, I had finally beaten the final mission in the extremley long RTS mode that I forget the name of at the moment. After several hours of unintuitive RTS combat and several really cheap boss battles, I was finished. However, only a second after I had done it, I realized what I had done. I had commited the cardinal sin of gaming, and turned the console off while it was saving. I prayed, for a moment, to Caerus, Greek god of luck, then turned the console back on. Unfourtunatley, Caerus must've been busy curing some kid's acne before prom or chosing which single guy in Vegas to help, because every single bit of save data I had became corrupt. A single tear rolled down my cheek as I deleted the corrupt files out of my memory card. I'm surprised that I didn't get an anneurisim at that moment.

I have a sort of non related story.

It was my 1st Xbox360 and I had been playing hardcore for a few months and I was so far into Oblivion, litereally I had 95% completion, all the houses, tons of gold and I was about to save and I noticed I had somthing around 15 saves on that character. I decided to delete all of them and then just overwrite the last one. So I made that horrible, horrible mistake and then began to overwrite my last file and the Xbox crashed and RROD set in. I let it cool off and I turned it back on (via the towel trick) to find the one, last saved game had been corrupted when the Xbox shut down whilst saving and my character was deleted. Despite all of this I still play Oblivion, but now I play it on my FOURTH...yes FOURTH Xbox 360.

My Morrowind save died after I had completed the expansions. I was gutted. Then I started again a week later.
Same, we should have t-shirts for it or something.

I randomly had my white GC memory card go completely blank once out of nowhere...
I had that happen three freakin times with those white cards. The first time was my own and it have all of my LoZ:OoT saves on it--a total of four (two for each difficulty:the throw-away and the nearly complete), and some other small game saves. The second one I got to replace its predecessor and I had almost beat Super Mario Sunshine (Game Of Satan) when 'that' one wiped. The final time, it was on my sisters card, the stupid glitch on the Sphinx game corrupted the whole thing. She didn't speak to me for two weeks.
I've pretty much given up on those ones.

Well, Pokemon Gold+Silver no longer save or load for me...as in can't save. Didn't try Crystal, but expecting the same. Overwrote my fair share of Oblivion saves in my time. Only character that I accidentally deleted was my first (and last) archer, which was likely a very good thing. As for mysterious, my Mercs 2 data replaced my initially chosen character, Jennifer Mui, with stupid Swedish guy after the game froze in co-op, I still had everything else that I had done, but I was playing as that stupid guy. I stopped playing and decided to return my rental. Besides, Saint's Row 2 has the best open world co-op that is in existence.

Also, my fucking old SaGa Frontier saves on my PS1 memory card just up and disappeared. Except for the bloody quicksave...thank god.

My friend's GC memory card was wiped once. He was distraught, although luckily we share a lot of our games so I was able to lend him mine to copy some of the more important save files (such as Melee).
There was nothing I could do for his F-Zero GX though.

Oh, and it's happened to my Pokemon Red, Crystal and Ruby.

Recently happened with Super Mario 64 DS. I turned it on for the first time in yonks and not only is my 150-star save file deleted, but so are all my records in the minigame gallery, AND I couldn't save again.

Finally, when playing Ace Attorney (the first one), I had a blackout while I was saving during the last trial. My computer shut down and the save file was forever destroyed. Replacing both the ROM and the emulator have done nothing to allow me to save that game ever again.

Arc the Lad 3 (the good old days) crapped out one me, taking along with it all my JRPG saves (Lunar 1 and 2, almost beaten Wild ARMs 2, various FF's, etc) on that memory card. I couldn't touch that game for months.
