No wonder we have so many flame wars about religion with comments like these...
From a writer's standpoint, it is just not well-written.
Since I don't believe in anything written inside of it, that just leaves the writer's standpoint.
You don't just introduce fourty new characters with a brief sentence!
Genealogy is boring.
Regardless of your opinion on its writing style, the question wasn't "What book would you bring AND which one you wouldn't because it sucked so much."

I also find it a interesting how you expect a book, that was written a couple thousand years ago, to meet your contemporary literary expectations.

So it was poorly-thought-out on my part.
As if you've never done something stupid.

And why shouldn't I? I'm not reading it a few thousand years ago - I'm reading it now.
If it's not good, then it's not good.
This isn't about me.

That's like saying I think all the works of Shakespeare suck simply because I loathe his Old English writing style. It seems a little petty that I should be so demanding even though those works were written for that day and age. Curse you Shakespeare!

Besides, if you hate genealogies so much, there's tons and tons more in the Bible than those. Also, I recommend a different translation if you really just can't get past the style in yours. May I ask which translation you are reading from?

DVD: A Christmas Story
CD: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Original Soundtrack
Book: 1984, with a sticky note attached to the cover that reads "NOTE: DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN".
Game: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC Version). It's the game that never ends, especially with the huge modding community that exists for it.

That's because everything is about me.

I won't go so far as to say they suck, but they're uninteresting if you can't understand what's going on - which makes sense. If you're watching a movie in French but you don't speak the language, you're probably not going to enjoy it much.

My problem is that it's a really shitty way to open a book. And why do it?
Are all of those characters important?
Are any of them important?

I dunno. Whatever translation they use in Hispanic churches where everyone speaks English, I guess.

...A friend dragged me there. I had nothing to do because the ceremony or whatever was in Spanish.
Which book of the Bible are we talking about here?
