Well.. I think Final Fantasy is progressing wonderfully. There's only a few things that bug me on FFXII, like how offensive magic is useless, but the same applies to VII and VIII. Other than that, the combat is awesome. The plots were always dodgy to me in every FF game. It starts out like "ooooooh" then suddenly the main character loses 90% of his personality from some stupid experience where he 'finds himself' or something.. so it's hard to sympathize with anything he goes through after that moment. But as far as missing anything.. I miss nothing about it. Everything that people liked about the old games was good. On old games. Turn based combat looks silly and isn't nearly as fun to watch as real time (though X-2's combat was pretty fun in less slow battles), job classes annoy me because only one person can do this or that making it difficult to do anything if a boss is determined to kill just them, and "jpop" character designs aren't really all that bad, especially since most games these days churn out bland gruff marine dudes, FFT wannabes, chibi look-alikes, or rehashes out of the mid-FF series 'how-to' book. I like playing as cool looking people anyway. I'm not really one of those "I want to feel like I'm in the game" kind of people, so a ridiculous looking guy is perfectly fine with me, and actually encouraged because boring looking main characters bother me because it feels lame when the rival or bad guy is way cooler.

final fantasy needs to die. I looked up the word final, guess what it meant, to end, not add 2 dozen sequels

Try looking up [a href="http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/sequel"]sequel[/a]. FFII is not a canonical continuation of the first, and so on by induction. The only sequel there's been is X-2. The Second paragraph of [a href="http://features.teamxbox.com/xbox/1554/An-Introduction-to-SquareEnix/p2/"]this[/a] explains why it's called Final Fantasy.

I'm still not sure where this need to "save" the series is coming from.
Last 5 main games' metacritic scores:
XII: [a href:"http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/finalfantasyxii"]92[/a]
X: [a href:"http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/finalfantasyx"]92[/a]
IX: [a href:"http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psx/finalfantasy9"]94[/a]
VII: [a href:"http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psx/finalfantasy8"]90[/a]
VIII: [a href:"http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psx/finalfantasy7"]92[/a]

So I just have two other questions right now. What are you smoking? And can I have some?

I just want to see Yoshitaka Amano´s beautiful designs rendered in High-Def.
Despite my rigid defense of some of the newer Final Fantasy's

AMANO FOREVER, NOMURA NEVER!

I cannot understand why Square stopped using him, the man is a brilliant artistic talent. Just look at some of his personal, non Final Fantasy work.

Uh...didn't Amano move over to mistwalker studios or something?, I think he left squenix or square, whatever it was when he was on board and doe's art designs for other games and logo's. I think he still contributed to the series later on with the memorable FF logos you see for each game. Personally I like them both, but Amano was just wondrous, I really wanna pick up a copy of the limited edition dissidia, he did the cover art and it's just awesome.

Amano doesn't seem to be working for Mistwalker, none of their games (yet) seem to showcase his artwork in any way. Hmmm, curious.

Well I must say I am a little unhappy with what they put out the last few times. But its better then just cut and pasting the same thing.

I'm pretty damn sure that Amano left Square Enix together with Sakaguchi, so it is rather odd that his art hasn't shown up in any of the Mistwalker games...

EDIT:
Wikipedia says he's freelancing, and doing work both for Mistwalker and something for Final Fantasy XIII.

They used to say, it was because Amano´s style was too difficult to translate from his illustrations to the early 3D models. But I don´t think that could be a problem any more, specially since the 3D modelers can render those "1000 zippers and belts", that Nomura always put in his designs. Seriously what´s wrong with that man? His "Parasite eve" and "Brave Fencer Musashi" characters were awesome, but now he only does the same thing over and over again.

Well i was partially right, he did join mist walker and he does artwork for a lot of other stuff now aside from video games. I wonder what kind of involvement he has in FF13 since it states he's working on artwork for it.

Any hey he's the art designer for Beyond good and evil 2, that should be interesting

Having read through this, I just want to say two things.

Number one: The Final Fantasy series is generally fine, in my opinion. They're not my favorite jRPG series(MegaTen for that, kthx), but they get the job done. They usually do things a little differently in each game, and are always trying something out. I'm not a huge fan, but I'll make time in my schedule to play one.

Number two: I think most of the FF hate comes from 'It's popular, now it sucks'. This doesn't mean the game is perfect, but there's a backlash that pops up against popular things and FF is consistently popular. The rest is 'they changed it, now it sucks.' Most of the ideas to 'save' FF would make it considerably worse. Why? Because it's all 'I WANT FF4/5/6 AGAIN'. No. Stop it. Enjoy the older games for what they were. Enjoy the newer games for what they are. If you don't like it, fine. Awesome. Your call. But don't hate it because it's not the exact same thing they were doing six games ago.

To save the Final Fantasy series, they need to go almost bankrupt with only enough money to make one more game and for it to be bomb sales-wise but not necessarily gameplay/story-wise. Basically, it needs to END and to end well.

So it needs to be a game that's unpopular enough for you to like it and still be cool?

Plenty of people can like it. I just want SE to think it's a bad idea to make another one and to move on.

It'll take more than one doing poorly to make Squeenix stop making the games. It's their flagship product.

Personally, one of the reasons I like the FF games is because it lets them mess about with all of their side projects. Though I still want Einhander 2.

See, I want Einhander 2 too! It's like they abandon anything for a surefire quick buck. I said the quoted thing above because I would hope that when they abandon their flagship product, they would return to forgotten gems or create something else.

Suddenly, I like you much more. Not that I'd actually formed an opinion on you yet, since I won't do that over one post. But anyone who wants Einhander 2 and isn't a total jerk is fine with me!

So you want the series to Fail.

Well at least it's better than "I wanna save the successful series!" From what? Success?

As a question do you play Final Fantasy? if not, then honestly why do you care? If so whats to stop them from making more JRPG's just not with the name Final Fantasy, they could have done that with any of them because (GASP) THERE NOT SEQUELS! So basically you want a Company to FIRE people you don't like. You want the company to suffer and people to lose their jobs over you not liking the Name Final Fantasy.

Think about it people. will be no different if they change the name to something else. They are NOT Sequels. They are individual games that stand alone. And there is such potential for growth and so many people want to FUCK with that potential out of being nostalgia ridden idiots who think they know business.

You don't know business you don't know whats good for the company or for gaming. You are selfish immature BRATS.
Well first off, I'll admit I haven't played a final fantasy game since X-2, but I will say that I am looking forward to XIII. I haven't turned my back on the series but I'm not asking for a brand spankin new jrpg by SE but with a different name; I'm asking for a new genre for them to tackle or something like Einhander 2.
