I'd name them the Orville and Wilbur named after the forefathers of modern flight.

Sleipnir and Tanngrisnir.
Or perhaps just Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr.
no. cool names, but how are they going to communicate?
"Houston, we have a problem. Tanngro... Tangri.. Tongra... ah screw this, we'll just walk back home!"

Odysseus and Hercules maybe? but I think they might be a bit too obvious :p

Atlas, after the Mythical being who holds the earth on his shoulders
Ragnarok, after the norse good who brings about the end of the old world and the start of the new.
Atlas of course to represent the earths hopes.
I always imagine an encounter with an alien race will go one of 2 ways, once the curiosity wears off. They'll be happy smiley innocent beings or they'll probably not smile quite so much and bring about;or try to, our doom. Ragnarok fits this nicely.
Ragnarok is not a god....get your norse mythology right!

Skybreaker and Olympus.
No real reason, just sound cool, and I'd be damn proud to say "That's MY race's spaceship, aliens! Fuck yeah!".

They're not hard to pronounce, really. You just need to know what the words sound like (or be able to speak a Scandinavian language)

Alastair Reynolds. As to that internet, I take checks...

"Serenity". The other is irrelevant as long as Serenity is there.

I wonder how many people are going to say Normandy and Enterprise
Defrahnz and Iktomi. Followed by a third ship Qwib Qwib and a guy that won't transfer off of it because he knows the other name choices would be innuendo.

Adam and Minerva. Adam for its Hebrew background, and means Earth. Should make Christians happy, but the meaning also symbolizes the Earth itself, where we came from. Minerva balances things out a little, with its Roman history. It's a Female name, to even things out a bit, and it means various things such as intellect, wisdom, skill, and commerce. All symbolic of how we got to space, and our reasons for going into space. I considered Athena, but that would sound too similar to Adam, and Athena apparently was associated with War.
