Event Horizon scared the crap out of me. I was 15 or something. I did freak me out for a few days then I did get over it, nothing else has really come close to scaring me since then, its just cheap scares and shocks nowadays anyway.

Since I saw "Ju On" I haven't found any other movie scary.

(Jap version of "The Grudge". US version doesn't come remotely close.)

Only problem is - and I mean this with out any bigotry on my part I swear - all the characters look the same so it can be kind of hard to know what's happened.
I've wanted to watch Ju-on, but quite frankly, have only had the stones to watch the American remake.

The movie with the ventriloquist dummies is scary, I think. Haven't seen it in a while. The name is Dead Silence I think, and
His Dad's a puppet controlled by his new wife who is actually a witch, like the one he killed who he thought was the only witch and causing the problem.
NOBODY FUCKING SAY IT!
I've got that movie on DVD, and maybe it's somethign about dummies, but it jsut freaks me out every time I watch it o_O

Also, perhaps the Japanese "The Ring" and the Japanese "One Missed Call" can get you going. I've only seen the Japanese "Ring" though.

Pffffffft, someone said The Empty Child. That was pussy horror. Although Doctor Who is amazing. I can't believe they're replacing Tennant with some upstart.
Anyway, I've heard Shutter was scary, but from a pretty pussy-ish friend, and I haven't seen it.

EDIT: The Sixth Sense is intended to be scary? I sure as hell wasn't scared. It's a drama.

The Blair Witch Project was really scary, even disturbing, especially the ending, so I'd recommend that.

I would recommend Carrie &, while not actually a film, the 90-minute two-parter Doctor Who episode The Empty Child. Both kept me up most of the night the first time I saw them.
Mummy? Mummy? Mummmmmmmmy?

I'm amazed, nay shocked, that you didn't find Alien scary though. Perhaps the degree of fear has shifted for this generation and seeing the pure sugar-laden dross that people lap up is now far more scary.

Perhaps that's the new way to go? Remake 1984 with Big Sister, Hannah Montana.

Think about it, you know how terrifying they could make that film, all they'd need to do is implant a few words into her songs and the kids would follow them blindly. An army of psychotic children ready to do anything the blonde one tells them, and you'd never be able to fight back as they're only children. Any adult affected would throw themselves in the way of the adorable children that only want to play with you. With their knives. Because Hannah says that everyone that doesn't love her has to be sacrificed for prom night to be a success.

Pleasant dreams :)

Like Acidoctor said you could try some movies that are more disturbing then scary. "May" for instance is an interesting movie that you may want to try. Arthouse movies tend to do stuff like that.

I can't stand horror films, I get waayyyy too freaked out by them. I just handle being scared by them for some reason, so I stay well away.

I've never seen a movie that actually made me afraid. I mean there have been some movies that startled me and stuff like that but no actually scary movies. The scariest thing in the world is without a doubt Fatal Frame. I'm hardly scared by horror movies, but the first time I played Fatal Frame I made the mistake of playing it at night and I had to sleep with the light on for two nights in a row. And I'm never scared by movies OR games like that.

The "Ju-On: The Grudge" series (not the American remakes).

If you want to be really freaked out, and don't mind watching a TV show, check out the Doctor Who episode "Blink" (series 3, David Tennant). Watch it at night for the most profound effect. I couldn't sleep for a week.

Also, the episodes "Forest of the Dead" and "Silence of the Library" will make you never want to set foot in the dark again.

Ok, I'm tired of googling this and finding pure crap. I'm not a 12 year old girl for God sakes and the Shining was NOT a horror movie!!!!

I want REAL fear, like the kind I can't shake for a while. I want a movie that wakes up some REAL fear. Like the kinda you get from playing Fatal Frame.

I guess I'm asking you people what a REAL scary movie is that I should watch.

NOTE: I loved the shining, great movie, I just wasn't really scared when I watched it, like at all.

LIST OF MOVIES I DIDN'T FIND SCARY (just to set the bar.):
The Shining
The Sixth Sense
Jaws
Alien
Quarantine
28 Days Later (OK, so this kinda freaked me out at moments, but I think we can do better.)

TO CLOSE: basically, I haven't been REALLY scared since I played Fatal Frame, I've never had a nightmare either... can you guys change that?
I dare you to go watch Paranormal Activity, Because that movie just made me into an insomniac.

Ring (Japanese version, NOT the crapy American remake)
Only film to have scared me in my adult life (helped by the fact that some of the stuff that's supposed to happen after you get cursed happened to me just after watching the film)
