No, never mention anything that makes those little buggers sound less terrifying.

Speaking of which, London Zoo used to have a few of those hornets pinned to a display, the real life Thornet...
Small child or not, they are pretty terrifying no matter how you rationalize it.

Yeah, those hornets are crazy. Makes our traditional Swedish ones seem like butterflies in comparison.

... Zombie foots. Freakin' get chopped off and YET THEY STILL COME AT YOU!

hehe.

Anyway, I'd have to say one of those mini box jellyfish. Not saying that their tentacles aren't yards long, but I bet you could totally stuff one in a box the size of one's foot.

Sydney Funnel Web Spider

A Spider roughly two inches long, drawn to warm dry environments (like your house), extremely aggressive, will willingly attack creatures many thousand times it own size (like you), locking fangs that cannot be shaken out (that's right you gotta reach down and pull), a tendency to strike repeatedly (that thing in your hand? still wants to bite you), a disproportionatly hard carapace that can resist serious crushing forces (like your foot), fangs long and powerful enough to pierce human nails, oh and the small matter of a venom specifically evolved to kill primates (that's you again) so toxic that it can potentially kill within 15minutes of being bitten. Should you be given antivenom you will most likely survive, but the bite itself has a chance of developing into a necrotising sore that could lead to the amputation of the bodypart.

Worth noting nobody's been killed by one of these things since 1981, but still.
^ THIS.
I'm thankful I don't live in Australia. The only thing we have in the US that's like it (not even close by a mile) is the black widow or brown recluse. At least they don't go out of their way to bite the everloving shit out of you.
