-Head Crabs from Half Life 2. The first time I saw them I screamed. They just came out of no where (yet the way they walk made me giggle)
-Pyramid Head from Silent Hill and the lurkers from Silent Hill homecoming

And SHODAN from System SHock 2. Ever since I played the game first a month ago, she has haunted my nightmares. I wake up crying

Tonberrys always creep me out. Don't know why, though.

Otherwise it's hard to look past anything in Ravenholme - for some reason I find that section of HL2 a *lot* scarier than anything I've come across in any survival horror.

To be perfectly honest, the Water wraith from Pikmin 2.

Allow me to explain why though. Pikmin 2 is obviously not a horror game. Throughout the game you always have a way of dealing with the various monsters you encounter. It's difficult to even be afraid of the massive megabeasts when you have an army of 100 fighting sprouts obeying your every command with no regard for their own chance of survival.

Encountering the Water wraith completley changes this though. The first time you see it, you have no idea what it is. It's unlike any other creature in the game. No matter, it can still be beaten to death just like anything else.

Oh wait, it can't. There's no way to hurt it. Everything you do to the Water wraith is completley ineffective. It can not be killed. Yet it can flatten your army in seconds if you are not careful. Combine this with it's completley alien appearance and it actually becomes a terrifying entity. If an entire army can't bring it down, what possibly can? You have no choice but to run. Run and hope that it doesn't catch up and that none of your Pikmin lag behind. And then when you get away from it, it just comes back later. And you have to run again. Encountering a creature you have no means of fighting back against is a lot scarier in a game that normally has you fighting every enemy you encounter. It throws you out of the normal mindset of the game rather abruptly. No longer can you view yourself as the unstoppable force plowing through dungeons wiping out beats of all sizes. It doesn't matter how strong you are, since an army will fall before this beats regardless of size.

Of course it becomes a lot less scarier when you figure out what causes it to appear and how it can be killed. Though that doesn't change that the first time I encountered it, I was truly afraid of it.

the Puppets (or super zombie) from thief 3 deadly shadows. When put in perspective that you're a thief and not a superpowered gun wielding mercenary, these things could kill you in 2 hits and you couldn't kill them without wasting a lot of precious supplies. Also the horror atmosphere for the stage they're in was probably one of the best I've seen in a videogame.

everything in every Fatal Frame game ever... ever. even the ground.

i swear, just going to Google Pictures to find one gives me goosebumbs. and you know whats the worst fucking part? you have to zoom in on them with a CAMERA and let them get close to do good damage to them.

also, the wheelchair ghost from Fatal Frame 4 made me piss myself.

im never playing a Fatal Frame again, EVER!

Flood, on The Library, the first Halo, on Legendary. OH MY GOD. So many times I've ran out of ammo and had to go hand-to-hand with one. And lemme tell you they do not go down easily. It's even harder when you're on the hardest difficulty. I remember the first time I tried to "Assassinate" one. I was on Two Betrayals, coming up from the elavator, I decided to wait and let the Covvies wear down the flood. A few minutes tick by and things are quiet. I look up the ramp and there's a human combat form with its' back to me. Naturally, not seeing this oppertunity before, thought I could assassinate it. I snuck up the ramp, aproached it from behing stood and gave it a taste of the butt-plate of my MA5B, it it with a nice "thunk". But, to my horror. It did NOT go down. It turned to face me. First words outta my mouth.

"Fuck."

Needless to say I had my ass handed to me a few seconds later. :p

I can't really get scared by enemies in Video Games. If it is an enemy, doesn't there more or less have to be a way to beat it? Then I am not really scared by it.

Now if something is specially scripted, then it gets pretty terrifying if done right. Or if you don't have any weapons when your enemy appears. But still there is almost always a way out when this happens. So after the initial adrenaline wears off, it is just basically a few minutes of trial and error.

Oh, and the last "survival horror" game i played (the suffering) pissed me off since the first enemies you meet (the ones with knives for arms) literally can get their head shot off, and still take like 5 shots to take down. And the pistol ammo doesn't seem to kick them back. However, if you charge balls-out at them and stab them with your shiv, they go down in about 3 hits, and they get knocked over. Hard difficulty. It isn't that hard to do, it is just monotonous.

Pyramid Head from "Silent Hill 2". My heart always jumped into my throat.
I KNOW!!! They lead up with some of the scariest music, then he appears out of no where.

I was scared from playing that game for an hour or so.

Nothing else really got to me.

The first time I encountered Dr Salvador in Resident Evil 4 was pretty much the worst. After a frantic chase around the village it felt so gratifying to finally blast him off his feet with a shotgun, but the--wait, why is he getting up again?! Oh god, no! Not the chainsaw!!

Also, Resident Evil's regenerators and Silent Hill 3's slurpers were hideous to face, thanks to their persistent, horrifying sound effects. Sander Cohen's silent, plaster-caked spider splicers totally freaked me out in that one part of Bioshock. And the Heart Of Darkness enemies totally traumatized me as a child, particularly those cliff beetles. They grab Andy, pull him halfway into their lair... his feet kick for a moment, there's a muffled crunch, then he goes limp and is dragged away.. Ughh..
