It's free. Go download it. Turn all the lights off. Put headphones on. Shit your pants. I don't own it or know the person who does. Sorry if this sounds like an ad. I just felt the need to share. I'm nice like that ;D

This is a short let's play I saw that lead me to the fucking delightful thing.

I wont be able to play this. Myself, I am very, VERY easily scared. I can barely play Amnesia, I get a few minutes in and then... nothing much has to happen. First time I played I walked into a room and everything changed, scared me shitless and I have not had the balls to try again.

But I will most certainly be sending this to everyone I know. Because that Lets Play scared the shit out of me. Seriously. The game is proof that you do not need top end graphics and Gore-Porn to make things scary. But the blink monster thing? I cannot deal with it. Just thinking about it scares me.

That episode of Dr Who? Blink? The first one with the Weeping Angels? Genuinely, GENUINELY still sends shivers down my spine. And I watched it years ago.

Cheers for making me aware of this.
You can't deal with Blinky? But you'll hurt her feelings! D: Look how pretty she is. Perfectly harmless :p

I dunno, watching this game on a few different youtube channels and it seems like the blinky thing just randomly warps around, it ignores doors. Like, you get out of the test chamber blinky just killed everyone in, close the door, run to the end of the corridor, see the containment chamber with the camera feed and.. its there, in front of you. Past two closed doors. How?
Blinky moves when you aren't looking at her and stands perfectly still when you are. She is actively looking for you and opening doors while you run and hide. Also, there are lots of other things to have broken containment. Blinky is perhaps the most hazardous.

The more I read on the SCP site, the more I think that the worst monster is the SCP organization itself.

Anyone here knowledgeable on this SCP thing?

They evidently have a great amount of talent and creativity behind their site, writers and programmers.. but while I hear a mention on the occasional creepy thread I really don't know much about them.

Can any members submit documents to their mods for review and potential publish? Browsing their archives there's some good creepy stuff and a few stinkers.
Yeah. You can write your own. There are rules and regulations though. The various staff members are set in stone and all have their own personalities. Including Dr Bright... who seems to be a sort of sadist when it comes to experiments. Why send 3 class D's into that cage? They KNOW what that creature does. Why even bother? Because Bright was bored. Read the things bright isnt allowed to do.

http://www.scp-wiki.net/the-things-dr-bright-is-not-allowed-to-do-at-the-foundation

http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-series-2#1800

Pick a number that says "access denied" and start writing. All staff member references should refer to their personalities and try and stay cannon. The list below also contains a number of huge contributors in the "admin" section. You can add yourself to that if you make a few pages.

http://www.scp-wiki.net/members-pages

Make sure you make it interesting! Many are boring euclids that just do some weird or dangerous shit when being regular objects. Like a TV that drives people crazy. Memetic messages are OLD and STALE. Try and avoid them. Creatures give the most interesting reads. As do objects that are dark and insidious in a more subtle way (than looking makes you go crazy). The glasses that let you see the interdimentional beings were cool. When you spoke to the beings (with knowlegde they are there) they could start seeing you. And they were not friendly.

http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-object-classes

Remember:

Safe - CAN be dangerous but easy to handle. A gun is technically "safe". Sure its dangerous but we know HOW and WHY

Euclid - Mr blinky is one of these. He is lethal, we DONT know why but he isnt an international threat. You CAN shut him down fairly easily. With a big metal box. Containment isnt as difficult. Nor is recapture. More than 5 people present totally shut him down.

Keter - Evil, innimical to human life, and a huge international threat. Potential to end the world or decimate human population if it so desired. Mr black wall dude is one of these. He cannot be contained, only slowed and he only wants a handfull of victims each "attack". However if he so chose he could kill every living being ever since he cant be contained, killed, or reasoned with.

SCP: Special Containment Procedures.
Wait wait wait.

SCP?

Like the SCP insane objects list?

The creepiest fucking list ive ever read?

THAT SCP?

Is it based on this? If you havnt read SCP i suggest you do, the website confirms its based on SCP list.

http://www.scp-wiki.net/

All objects deemed "Evil and innimical to human life" are filed under "keter". Read through the keter list. They range from comical to utterly fucking horrifying. I believe there is an entry for the creature youve described as the enemy. Yeah. This thing.

http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-173

It isnt even making the grade for keter. Theres some real nightmare fuel in that list trust me. Read it if you get the time.
Holy titty-fucking-christ.

You have actually scared the shit out of me.

Jesus.....
Here, read this one. It's just funny.

Scariest game I've ever played was when I was younger, playing Clive Barker's Undying in the basement of my old house. Scared the bejeezus out of me.

I don't know if anyone reading this has ever seen my comments in the past where I mentioned that video games (or movies, or books, etc.) can't scare me. Not that I'm some tough guy or I think it's cool to be different, I've just never been able to be scared in a game. From Silent Hill to Amnesia, I've always just been immune to horror. Maybe my brain is just broken. But then I found this game... I'm not even joking when I say I almost had a heart attack while playing. Never before in my life have I been this scared.

It's a free game in alpha called SCP: Special Containment Procedures. I don't even know where to start describing this thing. It's a combination of scary and just plain fucking creepy. Basically... you're in a facility and some very bad things have broken containment. You can't fight back, only run. You can manually control your blinking and doing so will save your life--if you can remember to do it while having a heart attack; the first, er, thing you come into contact with can only move when you blink in game. When it does move, it moves super, super fast. When looking at it, it stands perfectly still. The levels are randomly generated, so you never experience the same thing twice.

Totally in agreement that this game is WAY scarier than almost any other horror game available today, at least the ones that I've been introduced to. I've been playing it for a while, and man...SCP-173 is creepy. The role that blinking plays in the game, a mechanic both original and rather well done, really makes it stand out for me. Kudos to you on spreading awareness about this hidden gem of a game.

I'm pretty sure that SCP stands for To Secure, Contain, and Protect though.

Many people have said that the monster for this game inspired the Weeping Angels (since the site that it was based on was before the DW episode). This makes me really want to play a game with the Weeping Angels.

Also, epic mod burn btw.

Holy whatfuck, a freaking SCP game? Oh hell fucking yes.

I really hope some of the other critters show up eventually, like Abel or that lizard thingamajiggy that refuses to die.

Well now...this turned from yet another boring evening to a rather...eeeh...interesting overnighter. Should keep me occupied for a while.

The best part with most of similar things is that we really do know very little about the existence around us, sure we have grown more knowledgeable but fact remains, there may very well be things out there that we have yet to discover and most likely wish we never would have once we do.

There is a line from one of the Noon universe books by the Strugatsky brothers that really fits these sort of occurrences, sadly though I am unable to remember it or find any reference to it.(Said by the character known from the *Inhabited island* as Wanderer)

Just to give you an idea about how shitty my computer is, when I tried to play this game I could only get 9 frames a second.

SCP looks cool, haven't tried it.

What actually looked suprisingly creepy, given it's oldschool nature is the new Ghoul's Forest Mod for .... DOOM 2?

Though cheesy and a bit on the 'screamer' side, it DOES evoke a powerful atmosphere. Interestingly, it's actually very close to a similar idea I had for an abstract 'hostile woods' horror game.

I think the game is Special Containment Procedures and the wiki thing is Secure, Contain and Protect. Don't know why, but I've seen the used that way. Maybe it's both? Dunno.

I agree about Blinky. I hate that thing so damn much, but it's awesome at the same time, lol.

There's a few creatures in the game at the moment. Part of the fun/horror is finding them for the first time and screaming "Oh fuck, what the hell do I do with this one?!"

Mmm. A big part of the creep factor is, even though you know it's not, part of it seems almost possible.

I've seen that a view times. One of the reminders of how creative people can be.

That was the idea behind Lovecraft! Around that time we were learning a lot about the atomic world, ancient animals, the true age of the earth through geology, and how big the universe is through physics. Science was bringing so many profound and crazy discoveries at such a staggering rate, that cosmic horrors that make you question your place in the universe seemed plausible.

Things like ghosts, demons and vampires seem silly in the modern age. But now we have things like Titan possibly sustaining life, a universe that may be in a perpetual cycle of expansion and collapse, ridiculously loud noises coming from the bottom of the ocean, DIY gene splicing, artificial intelligence that may one day eclipse human intelligence, etc.

Basically, there's always something just over the horizon that seems unthinkable in the present.

Edit: Almost forgot - this is clearly the scariest game ever made (courtesy of Cracked):
