The haunted beach house in Vampire The Masqurade: Bloodlines, Although at the moment I'm playing through Call of Cthulu so we'll see if anything in that game can top the beach house.
Ohshit, that place was scary indeed!

The Shalebridge Cradle in Thief: Deadly Shadows... if I had to pick one moment from that level it would have to be the door.

The last "scary" game I've played with a frightening atmosphere was Fatal frame for ps2. something about twisted ghosts babbling disjointedly like they are still alive just before they died is creepy, especial the one that was looking for her baby or the rape victim. That game was fucked, and it didn't have to rely on cheap "surprise" scare thrills. That and the fact you are armed with an old camera, not the BFG 9000 and your character wasn't a 500 pound marine wearing a space suit.

Silent Hill 2, I was on the roof of Brookhaven, casually trying to unlock a door and Pyramid Head comes out of nowhere!! I instictively hit pause and accidentaly skipped the following cutscene :p
A lot of moments in Silent Hill 2 really... the scream in the woodside apartment, realising that Brookhaven Hospital had turned evil... Heck, even Laura stamping on my damn hand.
Love that game.

Fallout 3 and such games have also freaked me out at times.

And yes, I've even been startled by a mob attacking me from behind in WoW a couple of times...

a creepy moment was the little kid in Vampire Rain (I know)

A scary moment was playing 5 Days a Stranger* *snip*
*spoilers for both this, and Trilby's Notes.*

I agree, I don't know what it was about that game, but it freaked me out alot more than 7 days a Skeptic. I'm not quite sure if Trilby's notes will scare me ( the bit where you play as Matthew was...not really scary, kinda sad.)

In AvP2 as the Marine, walking through a quiet tunnel watching the movement sensor (whatever it's called) and a pipe breaks though the ceiling. I dirtied my pants for that one.

Doom 3 dot the heart rate up a few times on the first play-through. Mostly WTF moments.

FEAR did a number on me during the first play-through. I was scared to go near my niece for about a week.

In Condemmed: Criminal Origins where you have to zoom up on the face of a mutilated dead guy and take a photo of him, when he comes back to life and pulls you inside the locker he is in. The only scary part of the game.

Or how about when you're in the place when the scary Twinkle Twinkle Little Star starts getting sung. You follow the voices but the lead nowhere and fade out. Or those scary looking stick monsters, (i think they're called dividers [http://www.visualwalkthroughs.com/deadspace/bestiary/17.jpg]) where you shoot em, and all the little smaller creatures come off it (the sound that creature makes freaks me out as well). And then the regenerating necromorph. I could go on forever.

Or seening an infector...............infecting....

FEAR's famous Ladder Scare didn't actually get me that badly. I heard about it before I played the game and was dead nervous every time I found a ladder, but when I did encounter the actual scare, it didn't terrify me that much. I did, however, crap myself when I first encountered Watchers (those invisible bastards) on my first playthrough. Doom 3 was jumpy but not particularly scary.

I do have Resi 4 and Thief 3 now, though, so we shall see...

...I need to get myself some Silent Hill. Bah.

Silent Hill 2 was the first game I got for the PS2 (being a N64 player before that) and the first game I played with good graphics (it was a huge leap for me from the 64) and surround sound (also first time I used surround sound). That game used to mess with me sooo bad. I?d hear a second set of foot steps some where behind me and I would physically turn my head and subsequently be looking at the wall (lol). It got so bad that I had to wake my girl fried up one night. This is from a big macho guy who never gets scared? ever. I?ve been a loyal fan ever since.

it was 1:00 AM me and a friend had been playing silent hill 4 for the whole day('n night) the room was dark no lights on...

as the game wants you to we checked on eileen every time we came back from something... the first thing that scared the crap out of me was... the hole kept getting bigger

then we thought something was fishy about the robbie rabbit doll facing the wardrobe (well we thought it would kill eileen but hey) and we we're right after having thought of him as just an ornament we didn't pay to much attention to him untill that moment....
we saved and went back to the hole somewhere at 55 % ingame or something...

and there he was... robbie rabbit facing us with is big empty eyes and the blood on his chest
just... facing us

me and my friend fell of our chairs at that moment and decided to call it a day
I know exactly what you mean; I had a jump moment right then too. That was so great. Damn rabbit, lol.

I got this game for christmas called Darkfall. Turned out to be one of the scariest games I'd ever played (that was a while ago, don't know if I'd be scared by it now.) Anyways, you're walking through this old hotel, and there's absolutely no one there, your totaly alone. As such, I was totally off my guard, and I walked into another seemingly empty room, and I hear a voice whisper "go away, or they'll find me." I couldn't get out of that room fast enough.
Isn't Darkfall an MMORPG?

Well the scariest moment for me in a game? I really got no idea. Then again I haven't played that many horror games.

Playing Fallout 3 at 3 in the morning, discovered the remains of Vault 106 and started to walk through it. Getting into the first set of rooms and seeing the rust and emptiness I just had to get out, at that time in the morning with my house dark and silent it just freaked me out too much to explore more. I actually gave a sigh of relief when I hot daylight outside. Love those moments.
