The boss of Earthbound.

I can't explain it. Those that know, know. Those that don't, should totally play Earthbound.
That part was so interesting that I looked up a few interviews with the creator. He based that level from the fear he felt when he walked in on an R rated film and saw a woman getting raped. (implied BTW)
I hate to triple post, but his dialogue (the bosses) is actually written from the prespective of a rape victim. When you go through the whatever thing to get to the place (tryin' to be vague) you're actually going back in time to when he was young and vulnerable. You can't comprehend his attack because it was out of kindness, and finally, his friendship was unknown because one of your associates says he was evil, but said character had been lying to you the whole time ( those who played know why ). Yes I drew this all from that one image.

Oh and need I say it, you steal something, you walk out the door into the street and you hear the dreaded words "STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM!"
That always scared the crap out of me. My heart would jump into my throat. Probably because I never saw it coming. It always seemed like he would come running up quietly behind me, get real close, then start yelling in my ear. It also didn't help that my characters head seemed to snap instantly around and there was his face.lol.

When I was younger :

I was so damn scared of those "rape" zombies in LoZ OoT

Also in Super Mario 64, when Mario first enters the castle, theres a message from Bowser. The background music for that bit always scared me. LOL I would mute it for that moment, before continuing on.

I know a level 9 player can probably take on a Deathclaw with no problems, but still, I role-play.
haha I'd be level 20 and still be running away from those things :D

I have had many random encounters with Deathclaws on both Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Scary moments...

I was doing a fighters guild quest, the one where you have to find another some lost people and the cave is full of trolls, I found a dead end with a chest , I open it take the loot, start to walk away and a troll comes down from the ceiling!
I used to seriously hate trolls as well. Especially on one particular side quest which I won't spoil just in case, but I hate how fast they are, or when you are in a cave, and they would just run right round the corner in your face.

This thread is the best... and the worst. So much childhood revisiting.
That fucking eel in mario 64, I can never enjoy a water level in any game ever... Creepers in minecraft too, more scary than anyone gives them credit for.

And I swear zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are scary enough to be horror games!

This anyone? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDayJJLoe54

Or maybe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItNvTcT2Wi4&feature=related

Pikmin 2, the Submerged Castle. I don't care what you say, that was scary shit!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4RFvCmltSA
The game makes you get into a rut of cleaning out all the levels of a duneon, then finishing off with a standard boss fight with a giant spider or crab or something, only to throw this level at you. Ramdomly part way through this level the final boss drops out of nowhere and tries to crush you. Then the rest of the dungeon is spent running away from him, and if you try to fight back your Pikmin just bounce off and get caught under his wheels. Its godamn distressing.

Oh god, the haunted mansion/hotel thing? nnnyyaaagghhh that was creepy. Made my skin crawl the first time I played it. Such an awesome game, shame what happened to the company.

Why do I read these damn threads? It just reminds me of the really really scary things and makes me nervous for the rest of the day. Gah.

I'm gonna be a maverick here and pick one no one else has...

It was in Fallout 3 and I was in Vault 87. This must have been my fifth or so playthrough so I knew what to expect. Anyway, I saw a radroach coming towards me and didn't wanna waste ammo on something that literally couldn't hurt me. So I shot at it with the assault rifle, one bullet at a time, walking backwards.

Suddenly, my guy stopped moving backwards, as if he had hit a wall. But there shouldn't have been a wall there. Just as I'm spinning around FOUNDYOUARRRGGGBARGL!!!!! I had backed into a supermutant and he yelled just before I could see him.

I scream, jumped, and tossed my controller in the air.

Another case of REAL FEAR not just jumpy fear was in Fallout New Vegas. I was doing that Dead Money DLC and was at a part where you fight ten or so of those ghost-y guy things. I had barely any ammo left, but definitely enough to take them.

Anyway, I could hear them and they were on my radar, but I couldn't find them. Every once in a while I'd stumble on one or two and fight them only to get my ass handed to me and run away into more or to see more in the distance.

There was no way out and nowhere to hide so I literally hid in a corner. I started freaking out in real life and felt like I was on the verge of tears. I couldn't handle it anymore, and I have no idea why. I felt that if I saw one of them I would just lose a shit so I got up and shut off my Xbox.

tell me you dont get shivers when you hear the word: Cazedor
This ************.

"Come on, Boone. Look over those hills. According to my radar there's a bunch of hostiles. Maybe they're bighorners! I love bighornJESUS OW CAZADORES ERRYWHERE!"

Also, deathclaws never scared me. By the time I actually would meet them (Level 9 or 10) I could easily take them. I always found them cooler than they were scary.

Old olney in Fallout 3 , and REPCON (i think it was repcon) in New Vegas, anyway the place with the ghouls and the Nightkin in the basement. Also oblivion sometimes in the dungeons, almost jumped out my chair.

An old multiplayer FPS called close quarters combat, in a one on one deathmatch, my friend hid from me on the map for about 10 mins, then jumped out of cover and took the winning kill. Think I actually went back over my chair that time.
