Some of the Dark Brotherhood missions in Oblivion really give me the willies. Especially the ones toward the end... With that guy that keeps his dead mother's head around. He writes in his diary to her too. o_o

I'd have to go with the OP and say the Hotel in Vampire: Masquerade-Bloodlines. That was fucking freaky, especially whenever the guy with the axe showed up...and when you heard something tumbling around in the dryer only to later find a news clipping about what the police had discovered in said dyer. *shudder*
This, oh Odin, Bast and Zeus, this! I don't think I have ever been so scared of a game in my entire life as when I did that. I almost jumped out of my chair when that little toys rolls out before you. How they managed to create such a haunting atmosphere I'll never know.

I'd also add the sequence in Metroid Fusion when the camera zooms in on the SA-X's face. Those eyes still haunt my dreams.

Also, the glowing eyes of Majoras Mask accompanied by that creepy music kept me sleepless for almost 6 months. I still get the jibblies of I think about it while in a dark room.

to be honest, the more you talk about the game, the more it doesn't seem like a non-horror game.

anyway, for my answer, its Ocarina of Time. that bit where you go down the Well with the eye of truth, finding all these hidden entrances... as if the noise of the eye of truth activating wasn't enough to make me wet myself, there were those hands, those shreiky rapeing zombies and some of those god-forsaken tentacles that hold you in place as that massive monster gets closer and closer!
I remember nearly crying and running out of the well... then i realised it was just a game and that none of those things existed, so i went back in and finished the dungeon and completed the game... by "then i realised" i mean "about 5 years later, when i was no longer only 6 years old and felt brave enough".

EDIT:

The christmas house in Fable 2 was pretty terrifying. After the minor shock from it, i kept looking around for something hostile, something to fight. But no, it was just you in that house. You and a shitty sword with no augmentation slots. So pretty much just you and your disappointment.

In Fear 2 I had a couple jump moments, nothing too bad. But then when i reached the final level, some glitch happened, and i saw Alma bent directly over my shoulder. I actually fired half a clip into empty space from that. It was more than just feeling startled, i felt a bit violated. Of course the violation did by no means end there, but the next "scary" moment was just meant to be sickening. I believe.

And as i played Portal for the first time, I was staying at home with a fever and some clinical grade medication to help me through it. As i started hearing the monologue about the companion cube never trying to talk to me or stab me, My ever so slightly delusional half conscious mind started to really freak out over the cube. So I might be one of the few people to be glad to incinerate it. I reached the end of the game when i was feeling better/ not taking medication, so i remembered this and had a good laugh when I saw the cube sitting next to my cake.

Pretty much any damn time limit if it's my first time playing the game or I'm not 100% attuned with the game. I hate feeling like I'll fail simply because I didn't speed through it (but I'd also hate to make a mistake..). I hate it most if the music speeds up when the timer is getting low.

Also, one thing I always remember to this day is the Hand from Legend of Zelda. You know the one, it falls from the ceiling? You can see it's shadow before hand and run away? I don't know why that always scared me...I was a kid though, probably 10 when I played it.

Does STALKER count as a horror game? i suppose it's more modern day sci-fi FPS than anything else. Well then i guess Strelok Underground in Shadow of Chernobyl. If you've been there you know.

The Abyss in Endless Ocean, especially as before then I was blissfully unaware of the existence of Goblin Sharks.

What made it worse is that just as I found one, it swam towards the screen, all the lights in the dorm died so all that's visible is this f*cking faceless shark.

Oh, then the fire alarms went off, trying to evacuate a building in pitch black isn't fun.

I have you ALL trumped: my baby sister playing Barbie: Super Model for the SNES. I could not get out of that room fast enough.

Those "hands" people keep mentioning are called Wall Masters, and while I never found them scary, they were annoying to no end.

That level gave me the greatest single jump-scare of my life when one of the fudgers lept at me. It was lying on ground which had the same colour as it, so I didn't see it. I literally jumped in my chair.

Oh, and that other level is worse. It's more of the same, basically, just longer and taking place in an abandonned mix between an orphanage and an asylum. It was the greatest relief to get outside the place and hear human voices again.
