does resident evil 4 count as horror cause I only got scared during one part (the regenerators in the lab) the rest felt like an adventure game

The Library in Metro 2033, I know its a horror game but that was by far the scariest part, hearing a librarian rush up behind you and spinning around and looking eye to eye with it while it stands there staring at you, then hearing another one behind you but you know you can't turn around because the one you're looking at will attack, so you quickly turn around for just ling enough to catch a glimpse of the other librarian but not ling enough for the first to attack, but he isnt there anymore, you don't know where he went but you know his buddy is bearing down on you!

Bioshock counts as a non-horror game... right?

I wholeheartedly second this. Heard the footsteps, didn't notice it was off at first. Then I did. Heard more footsteps. ITS ON MAH FAAAAAAACE. Yes... terrified.
Wait...are you telling me those things are...WEEPING ANGELS?!?

Ghosts on Oblivion when you forget to bring along a Silver/Enchanted weapon, i was in a dark forest at the time. It was like the fucking Blair Witch Project

Also when i ran out of torches in a really dark and elaborate cave full of trolls. Now i always put points in Illusion to give me a light spell.

Fallout 3: turning around and finding yourself face to face with a Giant Radscorpion happened way too often.

Hespith's rhyme from Dragon Age: Origins, which you hear over time while you're exploring the depths of an abandoned Dwarven city, which has now been overrun by Darkspawn. Seriously creepy.

"First day, they come and catch everyone.
Second day, they beat us and eat some for meat.
Third day, the men are all gnawed on again.
Fourth day, we wait and fear for our fate.
Fifth day, they return and it's another girl's turn.
Sixth day, her screams we hear in our dreams.
Seventh day, she grew as in her mouth they spew.
Eighth day, we hate it as she is violated.
Ninth day, she grins and devours her kin.
Now she does feast, as she's become the beast."
I second this, that was perhaps the only true 'dark' moment in the game becasue it was all insinuated and not straight forward.

"The Skinner" adventure in Baldur's Gate II. Using only text and low-res pixels, it told of a haunting story that was at times, truly horrifying.

This. Shalebridge Cradle might just be the single most scary thing I've ever experienced in any game. But the developers also admited to trying to make it the scariest possible level they could.
I gotta agree here, and now I need to get a copy of Deadly Shadows, is the PC version any good?

Yeah it's pretty good alright, It gets a hard time but if you play in first person it is pretty faithful to the original. The graphics stand up pretty well and it really sucks you in. Without giving anything away, there is a level in the mansion of a sea captain that you sneak into. The widow is up on the top floor mourning and it feels like some old 18th century novel, Nothing paticularly scary just a great level of athmosphere.
I guess I should have clarified, I've beaten the game, but that was on the Xbox, I was wondering if the PC version held up in terms of controls, etc.

The first Portal had a few moments that were very unnerving.

The end of the last test chamber genuinely freaked me out when I saw it, even though it quickly became obvious how easy it would be to escape.

Some of the dialogue at the end of the game, too (especially with how malevolent and venomous GLaDOS now sounds, compared to how placid she was earlier in the game):

"Speaking of curiosity, you're curious about what happens after you die, right? Guess what? I know! You're going to find out first-hand before I can finish telling you, though, so I won't bother. I'll give you a hint: you're going to want to pack as much living as you possibly can into the next couple of minutes."

The haunted beach hotel in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Had a few great moments and managed to keep up a feeling of dread throughout the entirety of the quest. It really messes with your esteem because you've been kicking ass as this unstoppable Vampire for the last few missions, and now you're being tormented by a wraith and your only course of action is to soak the damage or evade.

Portal 2 when GlaDOS is waking up, it fills you with a feeling of "oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap!!!"

Playing L4D in expert and being on black & white, 1HP , with your teamates dead, trying to hold on until you can find a respawn point to save them. And then hearing a hunter scream... (or in l4d2, a jockey aproaching, so, so disturbing)

Also, Ocarina of time has some very disturbing momentts, especially when you start making the rounds to get in the shadow temple (what with the screaming zombies and stuff).

I swore never to post on a forum I don't frequent but this can not be seconded enough. I love that place just as much as I really, really hate it with a passion. To put it in Facebook terms, my relationship with the Shalebrigde Cradle is complicated :p

Also, in Ski, when the abomination comes at you. You try to escape but deep down you know that you're only delaying the inevitable :)

And one more. The Ocean House Hotel in Vampire: The Masqurade - Bloodlines...

Well today is your lucky day because I played it on both. I missed the analog arrow strength system but other than that; graphics are better, controls are pretty good though as always you miss the walking precision of a pad but as I mentioned first person mode feels a lot more natural with a mouse. That and I think it costs less than a pair of socks on steam. Go for it dude!

That's what I was interested in, ooh, and it's in the midweek madness too, so it's $5! Score!
