Spoiler: True terror.

When I was little, this thing scared the SHIT out of me. He came after you every time you set foot in the water and was a far faster swimmer than you, so if you slipped off a cliff and found yourself far from shore, you were a goner. Not only did he want to EAT you, but he TALKED about it first. It was too much anthropomorphism for my young mind to take.

I do have a freaky memory associated with that, I put him in a custom level, and when I killed him, an explosion that distorted the speakers occured and I died. It was extremely fucking scary.

The first time I experience true, pant-wetting horror in a video game?

The most terrifying enemy for me is still the V-rex from the King Kong game.
It's huge, unkillable and can kill you with one hit, it follows you around slowly usually while you are exposed with nowhere to hide from it and when you are playing as a human.... you have to play cat and mouse games with this monster.
I tell you, never before has another game enemy made me so anxious.

Resi4's Regenerators are creepy with thier gasping breathing, but the Iron Maidens are worse with thier spikes. Then there's Dr Salvador, U-3, Verdugo and numerous others.

A Divider from Dead Space has got to be one of my new picks for scariest monster. He's Spindly (which to me is terrifying), he has a horrible scream and when you shoot him enough he explodes into a bunch of scary body part-looking mini necro's.

Any game that has a mirrored (probably evil) version of you. If you ask me, that is the scariest of them all. (epscially if its an RPG or something and you make your character ugly )

First time playing RE:4, it was the section before the boss fight with the giant fish (Del Lago), my uncle, who'd played through, told me to stand on the dock and shoot at the water. So I did. Then the fish ate me, and I was really pissed with my uncle, and annoyed that I'd actually yelled "HOSHII--"

Then there are the Krill from Gears of War, those damned little hellions...

And when I was a bit younger, the Marionettes from Devil May Cry, especially the Bloody-types, they'd scream, string you up, then eviserate you.

Oh, and the Hunter, from Dead Space, when you have critical health; his execution [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZifGSXerAY&feature=player_embedded] was one of the most jaw dropping one I'd seen in that game.

Spoiler: Regenerators - RE 4

They're incredibly strong, shuffle towards you slowly, regenerate limbs (eluding to the name, no doubt) and are only killable if you know where to shoot.

Damn that thing's ugly. Where do you shoot to kill it?

Basically it has these little parasites inside of it (like 4-5) that you can see only with a thermal scope on your Sniper Rifle. Which means if your out of rifle ammo, you just sorta spray and pray and hope you hit the parasites.

It was really scary because you tried to stay calm and aim straight, but they just slowly walk towards you and they rush me and make me miss lol

I forgot to pick up the Thermal Scope on my first playthrough, it made RE4 much more scary.

For me it would definitely have to be regenerators from resident evil 4 both the regular and Iorn Maiden versions. Two of the scariest moments Ive had with them is the first time I faced one when you hear the loud bang from the other side of the lab door but the second time is much worse becouse I was in a narow hall way and you cant see it but you can hear it then as I start walking I turn the corner and its right there less than 2 feet infront of me I nearly craped myself.

Invincible Necromorph from Dead Space... Anytime it showed up, I turned off the game and walked away. I hated that thing with a passion and every freaking zombie I saw made me wonder when he was just going to pop out of some air vent and kill me.

I hated leaving the safety of goddamn wall* anyway, but leaving the wall, in the darkest depths of the fucking ocean, only to smash headlong into one of THOSE horrifying things? I'd shit my fucking pants.


*ANYbody who has played Aquaria will know what leaving the safety of the wall means.

The Nercomorphs probably, I didnt exactly find them that scary, but when one is dragging towards you desperately trying to get up to you and rip you apart, its just kinda horrible seeing what they are and what theyve become.

From an actual combat perspective id say the STALKER bloodsucker, like Zoidberg but not so cute, and damn creepy.
Oh yeah and it runs around really fast in the dark, then TURNS INVISBLE and eats your face.

Ohhh the headcrabs from HL2. The first time you smash open a crate in that small little tunnel and it comes crawling and screaming at you...I think I actually yelled.

Oh and the whole city of Ravenholm. Those little buggers made the game very hard to play late at night. However, they do make a very fashionable hats.

Speaking of late at night...is this really the best thread to be reading at two in the morning?

EDIT: Oh and all of the enemies in that old Arcade Game "CarnEvil"

My arcade has that game...i've still NEVER beaten it, i've gotten all the way to the RingLeader at the very end, but never ever beaten him.

That game has earned so many of my quarters.

Tonberries. No, really. I tense up every time I face off against a tonberry in a Final Fantasy game. Cactuars and any enemy that has an attack that brings you down to less than 10 hp to a much lesser extent.
