if youve played the game you know that alone they are weak but when you get 50 of the explosive bastards coming, you learn to have eyes in the back of your head
Really? yeah they are annoying and a pain when you get 50 running at you, but they ain't scary, they are more funny if anything, they run at you SCREAMING without heads and bombs in their hands

Pyramid Head reminds me of Cloud Strife if he went completely psycho.

Anyways, for me it would have to probably be this guy

-there was an image here-

Stupid bastard...
What is this I don't even... it looks like Nightmare from Soul Caliber.

What's up with people saying Dr. Salvador is scary he just has a chainsaw, now JJ is one scary ************.

Took a full Broken Butterfly to the head to take him down, and that was on normal. I still need to finish that game.

I've got a half one. Really the only "monster" to scare me in a game.

And it wasn't even a fucking monster!

I was playing Ocarina of Time, and was in the water temple. I was borrowing a friend's guidebook (because it was the fucking water temple), and the jerk thought it would be funny to mess with me, so he scanned a page and replaced the text and pictures (believably for the time, fifth grade I do believe). It said that the dragon pipe that holds a switch would come alive after I used the iron boots to sink to the bottom. I hated battle under water, so naturally, I did not want to do this fight. And it freaked me out, to the point that I stopped playing for a week. When I finally built up the confidence, nothing happened, and I bitched out my friend the next day, who just couldn't stop laughing.

Another one would be Nemesis, though that was mostly due to how intimidating it was, not how scary it was. And the mannequins that follow you in the original Condemned would have gotten me had I not been expecting it. But since we're on Condemned...

The Bear.

There's a few honorable mentions.
I agree with the bear. Terrible.

I'll have to say that the scariest monster was a mini-boss from Silent Hill 5. You're stuck in a small room, and he's got wolverine hands. Your advantage? His eyes are sewn shut.

P.S. Nice avi xD

Any game that has a mirrored (probably evil) version of you. If you ask me, that is the scariest of them all. (epscially if its an RPG or something and you make your character ugly :p)
oh definately! Like the evil samus in metroid: fusion *cringe*

Ha! Thanks. I love that picture. And I remember that Silent Hill monster. God, everyone from those games. Brilliantly terrifying.

They're incredibly strong, shuffle towards you slowly, regenerate limbs (eluding to the name, no doubt) and are only killable if you know where to shoot.
I like to sneak up behind my friends and mimic the regenerator breathing. It gets me punched most of the time, but it's so worth it...

Now this is my kind of thread :D Creepy monster talk makes me happy...

So when we're talking scary monsters, I first must enter the monsters of Eternal Darkness.
First of all, the bone thieves, pretty much all of them fit the bill. Their exteriors are pretty cool looking (imo) however the creepy part is in regards to how they force themselves down a victim's throat and then takes over their bodies

Then, this particular one of Xel'Lotath's minions is pretty awesome. The best ones are the ones that don't make sense.

These I have to throw in as well, fighting these can be a pain, and to me they're pretty wicked looking and so some they might just be creepy. (just look at that adorable spider mug on the Xel'lotath vamp :D )

Oh, and the ancients themselves are pretty wicked looking, but I can't find any decent images of them.

Moving on, I also have to throw in some of the monsters from Doom 3. Now, I was disappointed with the game as a whole, but I was pleased with some of the monster designs.
I was very pleased with the new look of the Hell Knights, especially this version.

And this one, the Bruiser, one of the new monsters made for the new expansion. I just love this guy's overall design, the screen projecting the mouth is such a nice touch, especially considering how it gets used in-game.

And of course Silent Hill... PH isn't the only creepy guy in the game you know, almost all of the monsters are centered around portraying different elements of the human psyche of those that are pulled into the otherworld.
Lying figures, even though they're a common monster just have this great design about them of a person twisting and writhing within the constraints of their own skin.

Abstract daddy is another great one in design itself, and is more scary when you consider what it represents

The pendulum I know is one that has really gotten people to jump, if not for the fact that it flies at you out of nowhere, but the sound it makes. I love that sound :D

Some people may be critical of shattered memories, but some of the additions were nice, such as the touch of the RawShocks. Their concepts and symbolism were nice and their designs were that delightful twist of creepy abstract.

I could go on of course, but I think I'd end up listing practically all of them.

These are just 3 games of course... I might be back with more.

There shall only be one TRUE answer. Ladies and Gentlemen: PYRAMID HEAD!

He's big, he has a giant sword, his hobbies include murder, rape, and beethoven, and HIS HEAD IS SHAPED LIKE A FUCKING PYRAMID!!!
Yeah, boy! That fucker freaked me out when I first saw in in #2. I didn't know what I was seeing, but I knew it was phucked up.
Only in SH2 though, nothing else.

I've always wondered how the HELL they can scream without a head.
And you walk forward and suddenly in five hundred directions you hear RAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH then you die.

Wallmaster, anyone?

NOTE: Yeah. Doesn't LOOK very scary, does it? Go play through the forest temple in Ocarina of Time. Bring a change of pants.
It STILL scares me, and I've been playing that game for about 10 years

Here's the weird thing about me, I don't get scared from the design of the bosses or most enemies from RE (1-CVX only, I don't count 4 and 5, they are not scary >.>) I get scared from the uncertainty of what's around the next corner, or hearing something coming down the hall but your not sure what it is, or which hallway. *shudders*

Dead Hand scared the ever loving crap out of me when I was a kid:

He's so creepy looking, and at a young age, he really is quite terrifying. Especially when you first enter the room and see all of those hands sticking up out of the ground... *shudders*

I had to post it. It's the one decent pic I've ever managed to find of this abomination.

I dunno what it is with me and being freaked out by monsters from the bloody Zelda games, but the Dead Hand, the redeads (particularly the ones from WW), the wall masters, Bongo Bongo - they all scared the crap out of me when I was younger, and most of them still kinda freak me out. Once you figure out you can stun the OoT redeads with the Sun's Song, it kinda takes the edge off them, though.

I think what freaked me out the most about the redeads is their way of just standing there.
And the shriek... oh gods, the shriek.

A mutilated torso and a pair of severed hands... welcome back, childhood nightmares, I almost began to miss you for a while.

The fact that he's the hardest boss in the game doesn't help either.

He was hard, wasn't he? If you didn't get into a rhythm quickly (haha) things got very unpleasant.
Scariest? Hmm... The Yeti, thank you very much.

Ohhh the headcrabs from HL2. The first time you smash open a crate in that small little tunnel and it comes crawling and screaming at you...I think I actually yelled.

Oh and the whole city of Ravenholm. Those little buggers made the game very hard to play late at night. However, they do make a very fashionable hats.

Speaking of late at night...is this really the best thread to be reading at two in the morning?

EDIT: Oh and all of the enemies in that old Arcade Game "CarnEvil"

For those who can't see, that is a giant infant you just blew up.

With lightning.

Not going to lie, the Broodmother from Dragon Age scared me first time I saw it. Didn't help there was a mad dwarf singing in creepy rhyme all down the corridor. Yeesh.

More creepy than scary. Since it used to be a person.
