Sometimes when I'm lying in bed it feels like pressure is building in my face. I dunno what causes it maybe blood moving up to my head. Anyways I usually move and it stops. Once I decided to just see what would happen if I didn't move; soon I couldn't breathe or speak and lost all coordination and couldn't think of how to move myself. Eventually I managed to swat my gf in the head and roll over but I freaked her out lol she thought I was dying.

Geez, I swear to god (or whatever may be good) that I don't EVER have this happen to me while I have a dream about Zombies.... fuck I don't think I'd have the balls to sleep again.

On a side note, ever wake up and not feel your arm, can't move it, can't even feel it. It's not asleep, it has blood circulation, but the contact just isn't there? I've had it happen a few times, not commonly or anything, just freaked me out the first time it happened.

Edit: Reading up on Sleep Paralysis, I'm screwed, I'm at a higher risk to get a taste of this.

Irregular sleeping schedules; naps, sleeping in, sleep deprivation. Sounds like me

When you're asleep, your body usually paralyzes you so you don't act out your dreams. If you wake up at the wrong time, your body might still be paralyzed. It happens to people from time to time.

But if you want a creepy answer, I guess I could just say it's aliens trying to preform rectal exams on you while you sleep.
I know someone that tosses and turns all night in their sleep
From my limited knowledge of it, this usually happens during REM sleep which usually happens for about 1-2 hours a night. So unless you watch your friend every minute of her sleeping, you might not notice that she doesn't move for a bit. And if you do, that's very creepy and I suggest you get help.
I like the way your just giving casual advice and your avatar is and otter of beaver jawning(dyslexic hop you know what word I mean not even close to spelling it computer doesn't know what I mean).

that's happened to me before, afew times... maybe demonic possession? that or you weren't fully awake... my vote goes to demons or ghosts. Honestly though, stuff like that happens to me all the time, so from my experience i can tell you it's nothing. (but you might want a priest or a rabbi or a monk or all three... you know just to be safe).

tgm1801, i see your wikipedia and raise you my encyclopedia: " The mares of the night are not female horses, but demons known in Norse and Old English as mara or mera. They crouch on a sleeper's chest and bring bad dreams, origionally called nightmaras or, in German, alpdrucken. At first the word only described dreams about crushing or suffocation, but since the easrly 1800s it has been used for any bad or frightening dream." the german version was described in the book specifically as an elf who would sit on your chest all night. thats all i got from the encyclopedia, take that wikipedia!

Your mind wakes up, but your body is still sleeping. On top of that, some people actually live out their dreams in this state, only they can't move. This is fine if your dreaming about a steamy night of passion with scarlett johansson, but no so great when she turns into a giant spider.
Wait, what do you mean about "living out dreams" do you mean seeing it as if it was real? Moving around as if it was real? AM CONFUSED o_O

Oh and I lol'd about the scarlet johansson giant spider.

Yeah, you probably suffered from sleep paralysis. That actually happened to me once, and when it did, I saw Satan staring at me from the edge of my bed throwing his feces at me.

I've seen a lot of threads about this topic. A lot of Escapististiazians apparently suffer from sleep paralysis.

ON TOPIC: Once, I was in the bathroom, home alone, and reading my smashing good Deadpool comic, when...I heard a [HEADING=2] SHRIEK![/HEADING]

Well, it sounded like someone was gasping....but I was alone. My backyard is covered in Woods...so...maybe it was some kind of demon?
Darn that Satan. Never can keep his poop to himself.

OP, I know exactly what happened, as I have experienced it myself, only in reverse order. You see, I was trying to Lucid Dream. If you don't know what that is, here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dreaming. Anyway, one of the things to look for when you try to lucid dream, is that you will find yourself paralyzed, and feel a large weight on your chest. I've tried this many times, and the only time I had any success, I heard a REALLY LOUD ringing in my ears, and I hallucinated. It kind of freaked me out and I snapped out of it.

Err....

No.

Sorry, it doesn't work that way, though that may help to explain grogginess in the morning, people don't wake up paralyzed and have it be normal.

I mean, this may happen to you once or twice during your lifetime, and may just be an isolated case due to sleep deprivation and such, but it's typically a symptom of other sleep disorders like narcolepsy.

OP: If it happens again, see a doctor, pronto! If it doesn't, just get better sleep.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You only have to start worrying when you wake up and your trousers are around your ankles and your butthole hurts like hell.

Your awake and can see everything happening, but you can't move at all.
I don't think I need to explain how terrifying that would be if you were having a nightmare.

Wow, yeah. Controlling dreams would be really helpful in that situation.

CIA agents finally tracked you down, paralyzed you with a syringe and sucked out your creativity. Sorry buddy, now you have to do what the Capitalists want you to.

I once woke up and thought I saw a demon's shadow on the wall next to my bed. It freaked me out to no end at the time but now I just figure it was my imagination... OR WAS IT?

[sub]Yay, another excuse to say "time to dig a bomb shelter!"[/sub]

Unless you're into that sort of thing.

OT: Sounds like sleep paralysis, it's not a particularly common phenomenon, but there have been many documented cases.

I've never had sleep paralysis, but I have the feeling about one or twice every three months or so where I just jolt in my sleep like I have tripped. It's really weird, funny and scary at the same time.

This girl who used to be in my English class suffered from sleep paralysis. She had to go to the doctors' surgery about it, it got very bad.

I haven't ever experienced sleep paralysis, however I have been in a semi-awake state once when I laid somewhat uncomfortably, and I couldn't breathe (I was laying on my face, so both my mouth and nose were covered, thus rendering me incapable of breathing). I was aware what was the cause of me being unable to breathe, but because I was semi-awake, I felt really tired, and I was reasoning that I would move once I would wake up, but then I really began to choke and I thankfully fully woke up and moved, it was a nice experience.

Yes, I have had the same feeling, but sometimes it doesn't happen when I'm sleeping. It happens when I lay in bed, getting ready to sleep, and I think about stuff. Once I was thinking about going up this stairs, which were apart and between them there were holes, I was thinking about how they weren't safe, and when I was thinking about going up them, I just felt like falling, like my leg had missed a stair and went in one of those holes. It was pretty cool.
