Speaking as a man, the scariest thing you could wear is a chastity belt.
I was going to say, if she had a boyfriend the scariest thing she could do was wear a "pregnant" costume.

Well, I've been beaten to it on Sarah Palin and Margaret Thatcher, and while The Thing has the scariest female character ever it's too old to be recognised and she looks too normal. That's why she's scary. She only might be it.

Hmm. When you realise that the catgirl craze is actually the prophesised Cthulhu cult, they're scary, but maybe that's not what you want either.

Someone's mentioned the L4D witch.

How about this mean b____ [http://images.wikia.com/asheron/images/3/34/Olthoi_Queen_%28Royal_Hive%29_Live.jpg]? Might be hard to pull off, especially at the proper scale.

Vampire Willow's far too sexy.

Oh! Hey! Idea! Playing the role would be a pain in the posterior, but here's a scary female from recent popular culture [http://observatory.designobserver.com/media/images/WEEPING-ANGEL.jpg] you may be able to imitate well enough. Another view here [http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01627/weeping_angel_1627630c.jpg]. Don't forget the mouth details [http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/files/costumes/625/48680/Weeping_Angel.jpg].

or dress the way I tend to on halloween, as either a blood soaked psychopath in a mask, or go for a costume that hides your identity in such a way that looks... eerie... I know my post apocalyptic survivor costume scared the shit outa some people, since I was wearing what looked like just a ratty coat and my body was swathed from head to toe in either clothing or black cotton strips... couldn't see an inch of my body, and my eyes were covered in polarized lenses... totally black to the outside world...

of course to do that you generally hafta be able to see through dark fucking sunglasses at nighttime easily... which I'm used to... but I would suggest giving it a try if you can snag a respirator mask and some sorta dark lensed goggles offa someone... the rest is like rattly clothing and like $5 of black broadcloth torn into strips... and wrapped strategically at points like say... your left knee, or your elbow or something and covering exposed skin...

Given that Halloween is fast approaching I find myself suffering from a yearly conundrum, there are very few scary costumes for women. My options seem to be limited to ?slutty zombie?, slutty vampire? and so on. Now in the past I have made a majority of the costume myself, scouring Value Village for the odds and ends necessary to make something truly terrifying? but this year I find myself with considerably less free time on my hands and making a costume just wouldn?t be practical. I should also mention that I never wear a costume more than once, ever.

So I?m wondering if anyone knows of a place where I could find a good scary costume for a woman that isn?t too expensive?
Most Onryo will do you well
The Mother from Clock Tower.
Integra Hellsing is kind of scary if you're a catholic/vampire...
Sarah Greene from Ghostwatch?
Despair of Endless?

A Hermit's Cave
... I was thinking hone-onna, put regular make up on half of your face, and then bone features (preferably portraying injury) on the other. Then just walk around, creepily turning your head. *shrug*

Just don't wear any make-up... BADUM TSSCH!!!

All joking aside. You could dress up as something like this (from The Ring)

The materials needed shouldn't be that hard to get your hands on

EDIT: And it looks like I was ninjaed by the first poster... damn you, DAMN YOU AND YOUR QUICK POSTING!!!

Slutty Nurse is a great base for Silent Hill Nurse. If you know a lot of Latinos, La Llorona is a pretty freaky option...

Or you could be more artsy and go as a Calavera...

A cyborg. Get fakey looking electric parts...
Now that i think about it, I don't recall the last time i saw a female outfit that was scary. They're usually slutty or funny or gender neutral

My wife is going as a Frog... she's from France. It's pretty gender neutral she's a grade-school teacher though so obviously nothing risque would be appropriate. It kind of looks like the frog suit mario wore in SMB3.

Do you resemble Kathy Bates in any way? Because Annie Wilkes is still the scariest female character I can think of. Just remember to bring a 4lb sledgehammer and tell everyone you are their number one fan, you dirty-bird!
