Contrary to your belief, there are plenty of unschoolers out there not being disciplined who turned out fine when it comes to socialization, education, and job opportunity due to the fact that they had the opportunity to socialize and obtain specific resources that they need for their own education. Plenty of statistics have clearly shown that homeschoolers do often better when it comes to socialization and the reasons why is that they can go into social activities involving clubs, sports, recreation centers, and more places where they can meet up. You'll find this to be true if you do studies on homeschoolers for a while. Yes, there are form of homeschooling which can be harming such as overprotective parents who won't let people go outside of home every once in a while.mrpenguinismyhomeboy said:If we didn't have discipline we'd all be unlikable assholes by now. That said, the public school system may not have the best methods of discipline (I don't know either way), but homeschooling is not an acceptable alternative, because the ability to speak to other humans defines our interactions with them, and in the end how we interact with other people is how we interact with ourselves, so growing kids need to be exposed to people constantly, if only to learn about themselves.

My beliefs when it comes to school.
Personally, I'm in the firm believer that we need a form of education which should place a large variety of people into a specific place due to the population number and the limitation when it comes to resources. However, till there is a way to determine specific characteristics on a individual, we cannot provide individual education support for the majority those individuals who might not display the traits of the majority. Due to the fact that each people have different genetics and different environmental factors, no two people have the exact learning requirements and every people have different knowledge when it comes to variety of subjects. This is one of the major reason why school often fails to educate people to the standard as backed up from the studies of illiterate students/graduates, remedial college classes, and plenty of experiences from many different people who have come from a school environment. Another problem with school is the fact that we don't have sufficient resources to educate sufficient amount of people who go through school which is why we have school with very limited amount of resource. The final reason is that school don't often take in account of specific traits that a individual displays which may be different from the majority of the people.
School may have failed when it comes to education in the views of plenty of people, but it does have characteristics similar to cults and prison despite the views of those who support of school stating it doesn't. The authority figures in school often have the powers to dominate, restrain, or control by force to individuals when they don't obey the orders of those who is in control of their own life as observed in truancy officers, teachers, and more figures. When the students don't follow the orders or even contradict the beliefs of the schools, the students can be ordered under laws to be into boot camps or boarding school which are known to harm students using extreme forces. The common characteristics that school have in cults are excessive drills and repetitions of activities, sleep restriction, establishment of control over a person's social environment and uses excessive punishments/rewards, creates a sense of powerlessness by subjecting people to frequent actions and situations, and creates a strong aversive emotional arousal by the use of nonphysical punishments such as humiliation, loss of privilege, change of social status, intense guilt, anxiety, or manipulation.
Need proof or any reasons to my sentiment? Just ask. One of a great proof to one of the sentiment of harmful places such as boot camps is Steven Anthony Cartisano aka Scott Richards aka Stephen Michaels. With the help of many extensive political extensions, he have successfully ran numerous amount of boot camps where students are beaten, molested, and locked into actual dog cages for weeks.
