I couldn't tell you what a prom is like because I didn't go to my high school prom I had planned a visit to meet with a good friend of mine on the same day so insted I got wasted in Vologda so a day well spent if you ask me nothing like getting pissed thousands of miles away from home.

It's my prom tomorrow as well! What a coincidence, unless we're off to the same prom...
Anyway, since I have little to no experience of dancing I'm going to have to learn extremely fast tomorrow.

Well first thing's first. I also missread the title as School Porn and found myself sad with the lack of actual porn with Highschool girls in it. But alas I digress.

Here is what you do, you make friends with the DJ and you sneak in the most obscure song you can ever imagine. And than proceed to watch as people attempt to dance in rythm. I did it with Safety Dance! Be creative with yours!

I never went to mine, I don't regret that. It was $75 for something (just tickets, I would have to rent a tux, pay for a ride, etc.) I would not have enjoyed. I would also like to note that so many people in my class showed up drunk that they cancelled prom the next year.

Also, Americans make a huge deal about the prom. Only about 60% of my class actually went, Even less really cared.

Just for the sheer curiosity where do you live? Cause its the middle of June and every school around where I live is out for the summer.

The bad news is we weren't able to get a limo, so from now until then I need to worry about transport, or if it comes to the worst I could just walk there. It isn't even that far from my house...
Dude. You could use the limo money for so many better things it's not even funny. Prom might be a once-in-a-lifetime event, but that doesn't mean you should bankrupt yourself over it anyway. Remember that a limousine is just an unwieldy car.

I didn't want to go to my junior prom. My mom kinda forced me into doing so. And I was relatively miserable.

The food was okay but not awesome and the only song that came on that I found worth dancing to was played while I was eating. After that, blegh. Also, my dress tore a strap so I had to pin it up with a safety pin and my shoes hurt my feet.

All in all, a below average experience. Thankfully, my mom didn't opt to make me go my senior year so I didn't have to relive it.

lol, on first glance I read school porn tomorrow. Anyhow, no I have no advice, I didn't go to prom cause I was scared of rejection when I was your age.
Haha yeah, /thread

OT: Go there, have fun. Everyone will look silly dancing, in your defence you can always tell people in advance that you don't know how to dance.

Nah, my secondary school dance was cancelled because it was badly organised and there wasn't enough interest. Even the leaving BBQ was better.

To be fair things like that aren't bad for meeting girls (or at least seeing them in a different light). Just give it your best shot, relax and have fun. It's the least and the most you can do ;P.

Nah it wasn't really the money, with 6 of us planning to use it, the price was about £25 each. I just don't know the best way to get there now :)

You may laugh, but just imagine all the Pop-Tarts or Peanut Buttercups that money will get you.

I did laugh at first, but now that I think about it... Pop-Tarts are pretty damn tasty.

Well, I went to my prom last week.
I have to say, I had doubts beforehand, seeing as I'm not much of a prom guy, but I went with a group of friends and had a great time.

Use it. Use the time you have! Nobody will judge you if you let loose a little bit. I never dance, but when my friends started making fools of themselves I joined in, and we all had fun.
It's one night. Enjoy it.

I honestly remember the after-prom a lot more than the prom. Granted, after-prom was held in a movie theater, hosted team contests for prizes, had a Texas Hold-'Em tournament, hired a hypnotist, and had an inflatable gladiator jousting ring.

Enduring a lackluster prom was worth it just for the free admission to after prom.

I didn't go to prom, I was to cheap of a person to spend the money. I stayed home and played Everquest.

as a guy who went to two proms, and hated both I can only give this advice. Expect TONS of drama, even from people who would under normal situations would be completely sane. It could be relationship, status, or popularity related, and it will only end badly. You will have idiots trying to spike the punch to be cool, idiots who bring their own whiskey just for themselves, and people who will wait until after to get truly smashed. Also, if your school is anything like mine, the dance floor will be more like an orgy with clothes on than actual dancing. I watched a "Grindtrain" that was literally 60 people long work its way across the dance floor like some obscene version of the limbo.

Try to ignore all that crap and have a good time. I had friends who were smart enough to avoid it and had a great time. I was stupid and let myself get caught up in it, and it ruined what SHOULD have been an awesome night. Also, the only reason anyone goes is for an excuse to have an after party. Those are usually WAY better than the actual prom, even if its just chillin with a couple of friends at someone's house.

TL;DR: ignore the stupid shit, have fun, dont let my horror stories scare you. Its more for you to be ready so you can laugh at the people who take highschool way to seriously.

Oh, and for the love of god, if someone asks you to dance, no matter who it is, take them up on it, it can only end well :D

Not been to a prom myself, been to a few parties that have been disco's so it's kind of the same thing.
If you like the music, have a dance, if you like the people, have a chat, just have fun. If it's your final year you've got nothing to worry about if you make a fool of yourself infront of every cos you'll likely not see them again so just do what you want.
