Don't worry about not being able to dance, no one else can either.

See how many people you can get to boxstep in rythm.

The After Party is more fun if you drink, silly younger me.

We did the Les Lanciers dance. Then got royally drunk and did it again. Then got a bit more drunk and invaded the town where we got even more drunk. Good times was had by all.

I'm from Denmark btw. so our "prom" might differentiate from yours in more than several ways.

Also the dance:

And a very short clip from the year before ours:

Step 1. Request this song.

Step 2. Do this dance.

Step 3. ???

Step 4. Profit.

That guy is my new hero.
I've done this.. It was an ordinary Friday night.. I will admit I was a tad bit drunk at the time.. But I'll be damned if I say I didn't have a blast!

with cocaine preferably. Though if you're going to do that for God's sake have some condoms on standby because you are about to have the most amazing night of your life!

I went to a few of those dinner-dance/formal things, the equivalent of a junior prom and senior prom. I wasn't excited about either of them, but I went anyway. At the junior one, there were all the outgoing types on the dance floor, then the normal in-between people dancing in small clusters everywhere else, then some apathetic and/or self-conscious people sitting around talking, and some frolicking weirdos hiding behind the curtains or stealing everyone's place cards or trying on their friend's clothes. I was a mix of the latter two and took photos of anything and everything.

As for the senior one, wasting money on hair and makeup to pretend to be famous for a day left a bad taste in my mouth, it just seems kind of tacky, you know? Tacky like Christmas stuff in February because they hype is over. But I'm still glad I tried to look somewhat decent because a guy asked me to be his partner. Most of it was photos and sitting around for my group, and me taking photos of anything and everything. My friends didn't want to dance.

I left as soon as I could with one of my best friends and a couple of other friends following in another car, and we stopped at my house and then drove to the nightclub district to get alcohol with my friends obnoxious sound system (that's probably worth more than his car) blasting poppy trance-core songs and Rise Against and he was driving like an idiot and letting go of the wheel to clap to Sorry You're Not A Winner. The lights were so pretty.

The after party was at some girl's McMansion and we just sat around a fire and watched all the drunk people do stupid stuff. I had a few sips of something, but I didn't feel like sugary alcopops. Then I went to the beach to watch the sunset with three friends, and we climbed this rock and it was really really cold, and I took some homoerotic looking photos of them cuddling with a blanket. Later when the sun came up we literally piled up in the front of one of their cars and he had Beethoven CD playing. Then they took me home.

The best part of it was using photos as an excuse to hug all my cute friends :3 So yeah, make the most of that.

The bad news is we weren't able to get a limo, so from now until then I need to worry about transport, or if it comes to the worst I could just walk there. It isn't even that far from my house...
Dude. You could use the limo money for so many better things it's not even funny. Prom might be a once-in-a-lifetime event, but that doesn't mean you should bankrupt yourself over it anyway. Remember that a limousine is just an unwieldy car.
Nah it wasn't really the money, with 6 of us planning to use it, the price was about £25 each. I just don't know the best way to get there now :)
Like I said. You could use the money for so many better things it's not even funny. :)
You may laugh, but just imagine all the Pop-Tarts or Peanut Buttercups that money will get you.
I did laugh at first, but now that I think about it... Pop-Tarts are pretty damn tasty.
And to answer my question, it'd get you three regular packets of Pop-Tarts. At least here in Sweden. They're imported, so they cost a lot.

My school never had a prom -.-

But if my 6-form's winter dances were anything to go by, If your: date, girlfriend or a friend who happens to be a girl ask for a dance, it doesn't matter if you've got two left feet and dance like a lunatic just the show of dancing with her is enough to gain a little smile and maybe a kiss which for me is more rewarding than most sex when your that age ^.^

Never actually went to my prom, decided to sit at home alone drinking Jack Daniels and just went to the after party instead. From what i was told prom is not really anything special.

Ahh, I didn't go to my Senior Prom.

Don't regret it one bit.

My advice, just hang with your friends. It's mostly just a glorified party, so just chillax.

So, my high school's prom is tomorrow. I got everything ready, tux, transport, whatever, but I still have no idea what to expect. Are there any kind souls who could offer some general tips (especially on dancing :< )?

Just to jazz up this topic somewhat.. anybody got some interesting experiences to share about their prom? ;0
Have fun and all that, but just remember that a couple years down the road it will just be a minor blip on the radar of your life. Prom is something that is always thought of as a life-changing experience, or some sort of "rite of passage," but it's not. It's just a dressier version of homecoming.

And my God, why is your school having it so late, anyway? My hometown school system had Prom in like April, and graduation was a month ago.
