Whatever you think of your uniform, you will realise exactly how easy you had it when you see what I used to have to wear at my first school. This is a quick photo of the old blazer in my wardrobe.

Yes, that is a banana yellow/navy blue barcode pattern.
I pity you - how did you not burn it when you finished school (or while you were still there)?

I don't 100% agree with them but I'll try stick up for them.

1. Paedophiles, kids from other schools come to start a fight(which has happened before)

2. More kids would get bullied about their clothes, bullying is pretty low at my school.

3. Well, you're in school, where you are suppose to learn and do your work. So, the teachers.
1. There's something call a pass. We had that when I went to general school. Everytime you wanted to enter you'd have to present the pass and you'd be allowed in. Otherwise, you'd have to speak to the principal and state your business on the school grounds.

2. They will be bullied anyways, no matter the clothes. Do you honestly believe bullying has anything to do with clothes? If so, why?

3. And how does wearing an uniform helps you with your studies? The only "argument" I've heard for this is that "pupils should focus on school and not clothes". This can be easily refuted. Who in the hell spends more than 5 minutes picking their clothes? Even pupils who want to look good everyday don't spend more than 15 minutes preparing.
1. There is more ways into the school other than the front door, they could sneak round the back/side climbing the fence and get their friends from the inside to let them in the school. Once they are in the school grounds they can be identified.

2. Do you honestly think I meant bullying is only to do with clothes?
People could get bullied for wearing the same clothes because they can't afford more clothes. They could get bullied by other kids because of what they are wearing.(yes it's stupid but kids are cruel).

3. You wear those clothes when you are learning in school, so when you put those clothes on you know you are going into learn and not screw around. It gets you into the working mindset.

I don't think uniforms are necessarily all that bad. I would actually like a dress code of a polo and khakis. But schools who require uniforms complete with shirt, tie, pants, and blazer bother me a little. It comes off as pretentious.

They should.

Are you honestly telling me that the replacement can't be briefed? "Hey man, kids need to have this pass in order to enter." Is it really so hard to do so?

How can you say apperance is not a factor in bullying? Its one of the main factors, bullies target people that don't fit in or are different. If your clothing is not as good as the rest of the kids because your family can't afford better then its going to show.
"Not as good as the rest of the kids"? What's that supposed to mean? Do you honestly believe kids are so insane that they will instantly check to see if the clothes you're wearing are from fucking GAP or not? It's all about behavior.

Jamieson 90 said:
already said it doesn't solve the problem but it helps, the uniform goes someone to making everyone look similar instead of Group A wearing expensive designer cloths and group B wearing second hand clothes from the charity shop.
Designer clothes? What about the middle class? The kid who isn't rich but neither poor? Is he going to be bullied as well because he doesn't wear "designer clothes"? And who the hell wears designer clothes to school?

If a family is so poor that they can't even afford clothes and must receive them from charity(and to be honest, it's not about the brand but about how clean they are) then how the hell are they going to maintain an uniform giving that they wouldn't posses the money to buy a washing machine?

You're making wild assumptions here. How does an uniform help kids get into their "routine"?

In my 12 years of school I have seen NO ONE being beaten for what they were wearing. EVERY SINGLE KID came to school dressed with the same pants for a few days and a different Shirt/Sweater. I don't understand why certain people have this obsession that if a kid dares not come dressed differently everyday he will be centered by the class and bullied to fucking oblivion. I could only hear this argument from parents who either never went to school or worry to much.

They are neccesary but blazers are too much in hot areas.

It gets hot in London?
It's the hottest place in the country, probably de to all the buildings though. Can get to about 30 degrees Celsius here so with no air conditioning it gets unbearable at times.

The school year finishes in mid to late July, in the UK, unless you're doing your GCSEs or A-levels.

Personally, I'm in favour of uniforms. Which means something when you take into account that mine was black trousers (of a specific make, sold in the town centre in one shop), a purple blazer with the school badge on it, and the motto of the "house" you're placed in (in mediaeval French), smart black leather shoes, a purple tie of the same shade. (The blazer, badge, and tie are also from the shop mentioned earlier.)

Boys Grammar school, up to sixth form, when they let in 40 girls. I was at the school in this uniform until the ages of 16, when I entered sixth form, and was allowed to wear a very smart suit with jacket and tie.

I should also emphasise that I've had facial hair since I was 13 my normal hair grows very quickly, and the uniform policy extended to not allowing hair below the collar, or facial hair of any variety. No unbuttoning of shirts. No taking off of ties.

Short-sleeved shirts permissible in summer.

And I'm still quite behind the idea of uniforms, for reasons elaborated on earlier in the thread.

1. Well in one of my previous posts I did mention kids from other schools entering the school grounds to start a fight, I also stated it has happened before and he was caught before it could happen.

2. Not every school is like yours. My area isn't the richest of areas, a lot of kids can't get much. Also bullying isn't only physical, it is also verbal, they can get teased for wearing certain clothes lowering their self esteem. As stated before, kids are cruel and will find whatever excuse they can to bring someone down and clothes give them an easy target.

3. It's psychological. Your sub-concious mind identifies those clothes with learning. It happens with other activities, not necessarily clothes are the item you would identify, but for school a uniform usually does the trick.

Shittest excuse ever.

What I wear has no effect on my abilities to learn and absorb information.

You are obviously very set against this, As in most debates I see no way of changing your opinion so im not going to bother, my point was it helps but you obviously don't see it that way, I was using my experience as a teacher which I think should count for something but hey what do I know.

I can't see an argument against them, nor do I see one entirely justifying their existence. I enjoyed wearing them throughout my years at Catholic School. I also think school uniforms are extremely hot on girls. Stockings+skirts.

Can't afford more clothes?! Fuck off, do you know how much uniforms cost? Give or take, it's over double the cost of any ordinary clothing item because it's tailor made for the school. If anything, it means nothing because then the indication for poor kids would be the ones who can't afford the uniform instead - making the whole idea mute in the first place.

Also, poor kids are never the ones who are bullied. The poor kids are the ones who do bully. They're poor for a reason, it's because they have shitty parents, ego, they're pricks. I know. I went to school with kids who never bothered wearing uniforms and turned up in tracksuit bottoms and Nike shoes - chavs.

You're really DIGGING now.

Well I'm from America and most schools don't have a uniform... but I really wish they did. Before, I had to wake up every morning and get the same outfit together... I didn't really like it that much at the time, but then the next year I went to a public school and everyone was dressed like idiots. I swear, everyone was sagging their pants or wearing skinny jeans or something equally dumb... I wish we had uniforms.
oh trust me we have a dress code (it's kinda like a uniform) and people STILL get around the saying not to have sagging pants and it sucks even worst when someone goes by a teacher with sagging pants and don't get caught and another person walks by without a belt and the teachers sends them to the office
p.s. I live in the us
