How about the ubiquitous, at least in 40k, lasgun:IBlackKiteI said:While increased application of such weird and wacky designs would be awesome considering that weapon types in games have pretty much been fast shooty SMG, superpowered slow firing sniper rifle, medium range assault rifle, I mainly just want Sci-Fi guns that seem like actual guns, that don't look like they're entirely made out of cheap plastic, that sound like lethal weapons, that actually seem like the soldiers using them wouldn't laugh their asses off upon being issued with them. A Sci-Fi weapon doesn't always have to be all shiny and goofy and crap, and for me at least it can make the entire setting feel kind of stupid if its meant to be plausible, mature and grim and has stuff like that all over the place.
Killzone is probably the best example of guns I can think of which both feel slightly futuristic while still feeling like guns, however this is probably because 90% of them are 'inspired by' (ie, ripped off) real world designs.
They're nothing if not creative. Who else would create a gun that teleports parts of your body out of you?PrinceOfShapeir said:A gun that shoots two monomolecular wires that impale the target and then spin, turning the target into puree.
Eldar make all the best guns.
By and far the greatest weapon in the history of all gamedom. About 15 years since I last got to use it, and it still resonates in my memory. There´s just something about liquifying your enemies brains out of his still living head that is just so....satisfying.DustyDrB said:I always like to mention Turok 2's cerebral bore.
How has that weapon never been seen again?
So a new gun...
Err...
(I'm apparently very uncreative when it comes to weaponry)
Yeah, I've got nothing. I thought of something I was going to call The Hound, which sends a projectile that tracks your "scent" (or heat...or whatever) and attacks you. But I'm 99.999% I only thought of that because the cerebral bore kind of tracks its targets.
Since we are on the subject of Turok weapons, how about the "The Inflator" from Rage Wars. A gun that makes your opponent more and more fat until they explode.DustyDrB said:I always like to mention Turok 2's cerebral bore.
That would probably seem cool to me if I had not once read a certain EternalNothingness thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.340123-Poll-Sonic-the-Hedgehogs-friends-or-the-humans-from-the-Transformers-films-Whos-worse?page=1]...LtFerret said:Since we are on the subject of Turok weapons, how about the "The Inflator" from Rage Wars. Well, I never saw that thread until today.DustyDrB said:That would probably seem cool to me if I had not once read a certain EternalNothingness thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.340123-Poll-Sonic-the-Hedgehogs-friends-or-the-humans-from-the-Transformers-films-Whos-worse?page=1]...LtFerret said:Since we are on the subject of Turok weapons, how about the "The Inflator" from Rage Wars.
