I went to go see Scott Pilgrim last night with some buddies. They've all seen it 2 or 3 times each, so I figured I may as well see what all the hype was about. Not only did I want to strangle Michael Cera the entire movie, but the movie itself felt lacking, like they had a bunch of potentially good ideas but played them out half-assed. Most of the game references were vague and my friends had to tell me what some of them even related to. I only got one laugh... sorry, chuckle out of the entire movie, and thet was the fight scene with the vegan guy. To me the movie was flawed as In the fact they had too many characters who werent important to the plot, ideas weren't presented to their full potential, and the music was mediocre at best. ( I know it wasnt supposed to be the best, they were a garage band after all)I just had to let that out. Read it, hate me, idc. I just needed to say it.
edit: I fell asleep in the movie a total of three times.

Well, they did have to cram 6 comic books into one movie, it's gonna feel rushed.

Not sure what you expected? I thought it was fantastic. Such a random movie, and it was way more fun to watch then some other movies currently out. Its very different, and thats why I liked it.

I also went to see it last night with mates who had already seen it before and were pretty much masturbating over how good it was.
I wasn't too impressed. It was a good film but not that great. I think it would have been better if they had released two films and spread it out a little bit more. The fight scenes weren't even that great and a lot of the gaming references just felt arbitrary (though I did like the VS scenes).
I haven't read the books, so this was the first Scott Pilgrim experience I have seen. I don't know, maybe I would have preferred it if I had read them...but I wouldn't go see this again.

Though did anyone find that all the girls are hot in a weird way? Like...strange hot.

I found it didn't live up to the hype as well, but that's hype backlash [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HypeBacklash] for ya. I only enjoyed the final 25% of the movie myself.

How dare you have a different opinion. I'm gonna go cry into my pillow and send you angry hate filled messages you will probably skim over then delete HA.

In all seriousness though I also felt the references were too vague. It was targeted towards a niche audience (AKA huge nerds like me) and thus didn't appeal to everyone. I think they should have made the film just a little more open to other audiences, not so much it sells out it's principles, just a little.

My exact first thought. If you liked the idea, I encourage you to read the series.

And about the gaming references... you can't really be angry at it because you didn't get them, it just means that you may not be the target audience.
It probably wasn't intended for people like me. lol, oh and one thing that bothered me the whole movie... That pink haired girl, idk what her name is. imagine her. now google that pink haired girl from that lazy town kids show... major resemblance. lol

What? So just because this is his first post and it's an opinion not everybody shares he's a troll?

OT: I haven't seen it, I don't like the way the comic is drawn and I don't watch Michael Cera films, so I will never experience Scott Pilgrim in any way.

I'm okay with this.

Sorry you wasted your money though man. And welcome to the Escapist, hope you like it here.

Haters gonna hate...

Clearly the movie wasn't for you, however I will point out that a lot of people disagree with you as it has a score of 81% on rotten tomatoes and 86% from the top critics.

Also I don't really see discussion value here other than people going "yes I hated it too" or "You are wrong, it was good".

For the record, its a pretty darn good movie and imo if you don't like it you just probably dont "get" what its trying to do.

Welcome to the escapist by the way. I feel someone needs to say this, don't go near the basement. Don't ask just don't go down there.

uuuuuh you were dissapointed by a movie that either you or your friends build up until it reached the highest heights of mount olympus and then didn't turn out to be the chocolate boobies covered in gold you thought it would be?.....big surprise. Damn i don't even want to imagine the rivers of tears after the Justice League movie is released ;P

Read the comics. Then you'll understand how Scott Pilgrim can blow peoples' socks off. Or just watch this:

So much was left out of the movie, E.g: Lisa, Knives' dad, "The Glow".
