Review scores are only good to gauge how much critics liked it, not how good the film is.
Wrong. Critics are critics because they critique, they are supposed to set aside likes/dislikes and provide a sound basis for a judgement on the quality of a film.

Individual opinions are fine, but a judgement on the quality of a film should be based on more than likes/dislikes.

edit: I fell asleep in the movie a total of three times.
Most of the game references were vague and my friends had to tell me what some of them even related to
This tells me he didn't pay attention, so yeah, he probably didnt 'get it'.

The only fair criticism this guy gives is that the movie had to pack a six-volume comic book into a single film, which he iterates several times. That is fair criticism, although looking at it from another point of view, it reveals an expansive world which leaves a lot more to explore through the comics themselves.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, I would also say that it is good, despite inherent flaws, and pulls off a difficult task with energy and vigour.
oh i gave it a good hour and a half, then i went outside the theater and started to text and then fell asleep on the bench. I 'got it' but it didnt interest me.

"THIS THING SUCKS, DISCUSS."

Is not a very good way of piquing intelligent debate.

Can't you just hate things elsewhere in a place where people aren't provoked into crusading for their like of something? I liked it yes, but I really don't feel the need to MAKE you like it. So you hated it...big deal, plenty of other things to hate and like out there, go forth.
that couldnt be further from the truth. if nothing was criticized, insurmountable amounts of money would be lost every year, also:

Well okay, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and ask you to explain what you 'got', I'd also like if you explained the following assertion:

they had a bunch of potentially good ideas but played them out half-assed
Which ideas do you mean? How could they have been better executed?

That you walked out at a pivotal time during the movie (the last fight scence), tells me that you didn't see the most important part, which helps puts all the other parts into perspective.

I'll throw down some of the ideas that occurred to me watching the film, just to introduce more discussion:-

The idea that Scott's culture and relation to the media is so prominent that he views his life through a lens so deeply imbued with gaming, comic book and music references. This is shown, well, throughout the entire film, but the most specific and powerful example is the fights themselves.

I would say this persistent idea is both interesting and well-executed throughout the entire film.

I hadn't enjoyed a movie as much as I did Scott Pilgrim in years. I would see it a third time, but I don't quite have the time/money.

Its all about opinion with movies. I personally love Scott Pilgrim, and ive just bought the first graphic novel. I would love to go see it again.

But just because you didnt enjoy it doesent mean its rubbish. Movies are made to entertain people, like games are. EXCEPT bad games can be unplayable and are easier to noctice etc etc

There's a far cry from Criticism and the capitalized letters I stated in my original post.

That is not criticism that is just whining to the internet because no one else is around to hear it (or have gotten sick of it and told you to go tell someone else)
There was a post above that detailed exactly what they found wrong with the film in an objective manner and Yes I agree that's exactly what kind of discussion should take place on everything. Even something as awesome as chocolate.
You were kind of subjective in your opinion.

However critics are paid to be critics for a reason. And even then I don't always listen to them whine about why they dislike something either. And unless Scott Pilgrim actually causes brain cancer and my eyeballs to implode 30 days after watching I don't really know why this is something to 'Tell the world!' It's another movie, people either love them or hate them (or ignore them), this pattern has been acknowledged world wide.

This doesn't exactly make you stand out at all... I hate alot of movies people have told me are classics! And marvelous! ...Have I felt the need to tell everyone else except when the topic is brought up. No not really, and even then I just have to say, meh It wasn't my thing.

Also

What now.

Well, they did have to cram 6 comic books into one movie, it's gonna feel rushed.
My exact first thought. If you liked the idea, I encourage you to read the series.

And about the gaming references... you can't really be angry at it because you didn't get them, it just means that you may not be the target audience.
Are the books really that good?
I just ordered them over amazon since I'm sick of waiting till January 2011 for it to come out in Germany /Fucking angry
