Michael Cera's faux awkwardness
Pretty much the reason I won't be going to see Scott Pilgrim, I cannot stand Micheal Cera and his association with the *indie movement, so as such won't be seeing any movies he is in. Unless he were to play a psychopathic murderer, which Kasawd [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Kasawd] has pointed out to me, Cera has potential as.

Now Expendables, on the other hand, I shall likely be going to see because it doesn't even pretend to be anything other then an 80s style action flick.

[sub]*By indie, I mean the commerically sponsered movement to get money out of those who think they are indie.[/sub]

Oh no it also lost to Inception and The Other Guys. But serious everyone that was ever awesome and still alive vs. a comic book, shouldn't of been to surprising.

I would see Scott Pilgrim, but Michael Cera's faux awkwardness prevents me from doing so. However, I'm looking forward to the Expendables. Dumb, yes, but fun.

Anyway, I'd say it'll make it back in DVD sales. Those films popular with the indie crowd usually do.
Furb, hate to disappoint, but after just seeing the Expendables yesterday, I have to say it was pretty awful.

Not even really any decent action sequences. Despite my detest for Michael Cera, I actually enjoyed Scott Pilgrim.

Hmn , well this doesnt suprise me, The expendables is full of well known action stars, its bound to have major profit, well Scott pilgrim, as Michael Cera ... so yeah doesnt suprise me Scott Pilgrim is behind

Still i never actually seen either, but from the trailers i have seen, i woud enjoy Scott Pilgrim more, i woud have to imagine it with another actor as the lead tho <.<

I stand by my belief that Scott Pilgrim was the second best film this year after Inception, but honestly I'm not surprised. A movie full of retro video game references based off a small-time graphic novel doesn't really stand a chance against a movie with every action star ever in it, regardless of how awesome the former is and how terrible the latter.

I don't care though, I mark it as another success in Edgar Wright's perfect record. It was so great.
The lack of Samuel Jackson automatically renders the main selling point of The Expendables invalid.

I think we should all go see Scott Pilgrim. Right now.

Plus, as I've said: People are drugged monkeys who are easily entertained by random flashing coloured lights. That's the main reason The Expendables has made money at all.
I always thought Samuel L. Jackson was needed in The Expendables.

But probably the reason Scott Pilgrim didn't do so well is that people are tired of seeing Michael Cera play the same character in every movie. That and the commercials make it look like a 12-year-old's super hero movie.

Does everyone really have such a large hate for Michael Cera? I'm gonna watch Scott Pilgrim, and enjoy every second of it, no matter who's the main acter.

I honestly wasn't expecting much from Scott Pilgrim, but what I got was one of the funniest and sweetest movies of the year underneath all the video game and 90's hipster culture references. I thought the role suited Cera perfectly.

Though I must admit this was kind of expected. This'll make more money via DVD sales than theater sales.

I can agree with that, I never even heard of the comic till a week ago (would have loved to read it though I like retro throw back ^_^)
The comic's even better than the film in a lot of ways; it's worth checking out.
I plan on it, my roommate is going to let me read them. It still is the fact I doubt a lot of people even heard of the books till the movie was out. Now that it's known about a lot of "net people" are making videos about how funny and awesome it is.

Successful troll is successful. I think this guy deserves a medal since his post was so original.
I'm not trolling, the guy is just a shit actor, he's awful. I would have gone to see the film if it had used someone else as the main protaganist.
That's just really fucking stupid. The movie is fantastic but your like "Oh, it has Micheal Cera I'm not gonna go see it. Hurr Durrr."

He's not going to see it since he's an ass who only thinks his opinion is right and will never see it because of Micheal Cera. And even if he does he won't go in open minded so he'll think it'll suck either way.

Point taken. It's a shame though. Scott Pilgrim was like opening a can of awesome.

Dear lord I just caught on the news in Canada how well the movies did. #1 was of course the Expendables. And Scott came in at #5. It couldn't even beat Inception lol.

I resent you implying that I'm not a pompous elitist know-it-all though, these are badges I wear with pride.
So you're a teenager/uni student that thinks they're one of the few people that thinks for themselves? Where is that old picture of all those people on the train thinking the exact same thing again? I really should save that for future reference.

Also, you seem to have forgotten the vitally important parts from what you quoted. You know, the horse's ass, dipshit, douchebag part of the title that goes with being a pompous, elitist know-it-all?
You can have those last few. I'm giving them to you. You've earned them.

For future reference I am neither a teenager, nor am I a uni student. Been there, graduated that. Just a well adjusted intelligent adult who doesn't enjoy macho American action movies designed to whip frat kids into a frenzy. Call it better taste, call it what you will.

Does it really matter that the film didn't do well? The film was made so fans win. I didn't go see Zombieland because it looked really dumb but after hearing about how amazing it was I saw it. I'm guessing people will do the same with Scott Pilgrim after hearing about it.

I'm not really surprised, The Expendables is a movie that anyone can watch and probably enjoy. Scott Pilgrim on the other hand is not really targeted towards anyone but gamers.

That, and the Expendables had Willis, Stallone, Li, and Statham. Scott Pilgrim has Michael Cera, it's kind of hard to win in a situation like that.
