Mmm, borscht-burger. Damn, now I want fast food. And I never want fast food. This blows.

Oh, goodie, more Watchmen circle-jerking.

Let me tell you something: Watchmen is nothing but a serviceable noir story completely failed by the most ludicrous, pie-eyed, moony ending in recent memory.
Are you referring to the 'giner-squid ending or the widespread nukings ending?
The squid, of course.
Do not question the lovesquid.
How is a faked alien attack that will unify the US and Soviet Union for, oh, let's say two months, a believable ending? And how does this new-found camaraderie lead to borscht burgers and horseshit like that?
So, a mass nuclear strike that could easily have been performed by any national superpower is more believable than humanity united against an aggressor that is (as far as anyone knows) not possibly of human creation?

Hell I love Watchmen and I still think the ending is weak. and from what I have read it came from being late for a deadline and seeing a old episode of Outer Limits, I believe its was one called "The Architects of fear". all that aside Watchmen is still a game changing piece of graphic fiction.
And you know what we got from that game change? Rob Liefeld and Todd McFarlane.

I agree about that,
but just think what will come from Scott Pilgrim. just think of it a world of comic where every character is a whiny self important hipster douche, that spews random pop culture buzz words and references at the drop of a hat. All drawn with that shitty I think I can emulate the Japanese culture and art because I read manga and eat Pocky sticks.

Scott Pilgrim is a better movie than Watchmen - that's really not up for debate, is it? Some material is just easier to adapt to film (and the SP movie people just seem more talented/imaginative in how they went about doing that adaptation).

That, however, says nothing about the quality of the source material.

I haven't seen Scott Pilgrim nor do I plan to, but I just came to say that when you hit friends in the head over something trivial like that, you come off as a massive dick(I'm looking at you Nick).

A proper comparative analogy is the Watchmen as the Walkman, Sony's original portable music player which redefined an entire industry to this day and Scott Pilgrim as the iPod.

I think your friend's statement about Scott Pilgrim's importance was because it's the exact opposite of Watchmen, and he wants to see (at least some) comics move towards that fun, goofy mood.

I guess it all boils down to how I personally view the source material.

for me Watchmen changed the way I view Super Hero comics and comic books in general, it got me re-interested in American comic and not just ones with a connection to Invader Zim. Dark Knight Returns was the book I read right after I finished Watchmen and that also helped.

Scott Pilgrim just felt like No More Heroes mixed with Chasing Amy......In Canada. it had its moments but thats all it had.

No way. Scott Pilgrim will never be what Watchmen was and still is. However the Scott Pilgrim movie was much better then the Watchmen one.
I don't know, I really wasn't too fond of the Scott Pilgrim movie, but when I finally gave the Watchmen movie a chance, having passed on it in theaters, I was surprised to find that it was great.
