Chilango is a Mexican slang word for people from Mexico City. It's a SN I choose for myself back when I first came on the web back in 1996 or so, as I grew up there, except "Chilango" was taken, so the two got tacked on, and I've kept it since, irrelevant of whether the version without the numeral is available or not.

My other net SN that I often use is "Aeillien" which is a derivative of the title that a group of people called the Aiel call one of the main characters in the wheel of time series by Robert Jordan, and it means something like "the man who is a country." It's got a certain odd grandeur that appealed to my emo teen self, and since then its just become a regular part of my online identity.

Insofar as the Avatar, I generally suck with avatars, actually. I picked the FF1 red mage because FF1 was the game that got me into RPG's, and the Red Mage my favorite class, and his "mid attack" thing appeals to my generally argumentative nature.

Avatar is Tatepon, one of the shield guardians from Patapon. Why? I like the game I guess. Plus it was easy to crop the picture. I might do a Yaripon later, but for now I will keep you in suspense.
Did you know: that Tate means shield? ;)

So what about the name?

As for you Steve, I'd give you a nod of warm approval for the origins of your name. Only you signature your posts, so I can't : (
Part of the name came from a weird dream. Wilson is now the main character in at least three of my short stories so I put them together. I always cut pieces off my ideas and put them together into Frankenstein monsters.

Mines less interesting... much less interesting. I've always been Roo online, I think it sounds better than Ruth and eighteen has been my favourite number for donkeys. So instead of being original, I'm Roo18.

My display picture at the moment is of my friend's fish, called [[FishCORE]], taking the piss out of scene kids who seem to always overuse square brackets.

I usually go with some variation of immortal. My original usage was immortal_sage in Diablo 2 as sage is part of my actual name. Eventually the sage got dropped and I usually have to tag it with an eight or two since it is unfortunately usually taken. The character for eight is about as close to an infinity symbol as you can get which ties in nicely with immortality.

My use of immortal actually stems from my favorite pearl jam song immortality.

In rpgs I usually vary things up, immortal is more my fps nick. In guildwars I used Daedra Sage as a nod to the elder scrolls. I also used Kushiel Sage as a nod to the Kushiel's Legacy series (Find Kushiel's Dart and read it if you're over the age of 17). Actually made a longstanding friend using that name in game as it was recognized (and the person actually had a name also from the books). In Diablo 2 when I came back into the game for the 4th time, 8 years after I had first played it, I made a new string of characters all starting with Righteous. The most well known of these was Righteous_Deity which I used on a level 96 Barbarian in the King of Kings 3 (KoK3) Barbarian Tournament. Went undefeated to the final round of the tourny and lost to a guy I'd killed and sent to the losers bracket previous to that.

I've never been big on tiny little avatars, I prefer signature style images, but this site doesn't have them enabled. I hand drew the one I use for that, but oh well, can't really put it up here. http://yorktown.cbe.wwu.edu/07Spring/sagej3/personal/immortal_eye.jpg that's a link to it.

I use Dakan Kurano because he was the hero in a series of short stories I wrote during my early stint as an English major. I have always been into fantasy novels such as Dragonlance and the Forgotten Realms stuff (to name the more mainstream stuff), and was inspired by an assignment to write a narrative. I wrote the narrative about the content that was most interesting to me and I sat down for about thirty minutes and started putting letters together to create a name that sounded catchy to me. Dakan Kurano emerged and when I started playing online games the name became how I was known by my fellow gamers. I've been called Dak or Dakan so much that I'd reply to it just as quickly as my god-given name.

Melty Blood is a japanesse only fighting game based off of Tsukihime. It sounds cool, so about 70% of the time I use Melty Blood. Avatar is Lloyd Irving of the Tales of Symphonia Fame. I'm thinking of changing it to Genis Sage (From the same game), because A. He reminds me of myself when I was 12, and B.I'm creating a Genis character for the Mugen fighting engine. Hurray for third party software!

I chose this name as it is my screen name on GameFAQs (yes, I have a GameFAQs account. Rest assured, the only reason I use it is because I'm a member of a RP going on on the Wii MK:Armageddon board), and my avatar I picked because I'm an anime fan and after seeing LiamWolfy's avatar, I went with Naruto to avoid being seen as a copycat. Now, I'm changing it, having seen an avatar with Shikamaru...

Edit: Avatar changed.

You picked 'em, so tell us why?
I think mine are pretty self explainitory. Rain a ninja from Mortal Kombat. I don't know why I like Rain so much as a secondary character away from Sub-Zero and Scorpion, but to me he always holds a place in my heart. Prince of Edenia and demi-god of the relms, hired ninja assassin. That's pretty cool. But why dress in purple?!
I never followed MK past 4, the only Lin Kuei style characters I knew were Scorpion, Sub Zero, Smoke, and the cybers Sector and Cyrax (and again Smoke). When was Rain added? And are there other ninjas?
Rain was added in either MK3 or UMK3, not sure which. As for ninjas, those are all the males, I believe. For females, there is Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Khameleon (in MK4 N64), and Frost, who was added to the roster in MK: Deadly Alliance.

Here's an obscure one, so settle in folks, this is gonna be a long one.

"The Taken One" is the name of a fictional deity of sorts given to That Which Was Taken(of Magic: the Gathering "fame") in the Kamigawa cycle of books, three books that I found to be a surprisingly interesting read. It is basically a snake-like god encased in a stone disk taken from the kakuriyo(spirit world) by the feudal lord Konda, and possessing this stone disk makes him virtually immortal. However, by doing so he has violated the gods and this act of taking this disk from them causes the gods to turn on the mortal world, and this is the catalyst for a 20-year long confrontation called the Kami War. The end of said war comes about when The Taken One breaks free of the stone disk and proceeds to not only smite both her captor, but also the most powerful of the gods, an eight-headed snake spirit called O-Kagachi, who is apparently so massive he can take up most of the sky. Clearly I thought this thing/spirit was so bad-ass I would adopt its namesake as my ID on many different forums and such, and that would be my identity for the rest of my natural internet life. Y'know, 'cause I'm so bad-ass and I can smite gods... or something.

The avatar is Near from Death Note. I like Near and I like Death Note. Yup, that's it.

Melty Blood (and it's many slight improvements) kicks ass, and my Sion kicks your ass (maybe :p) (you'd never guess that from my avatar... ooooh no) ^^ I'll write a user review of it here someday soon.

Square King is one of my favorite tunes from The Nels Cline Singers' "The Giant Pin." I'm horrible at creating forum usernames and I was listening to it at the time, so it works.

My avatar is one of my dream guitars: an old Jazzmaster, thanks mostly to Mr. Cline.

For those who don't read Ayn Rand, John Galt is the main protagonist of Atlas Shrugged. In the novel, he's able to build futuristic engines and fight off Saturday-Morning-cartoon-villians-turned-socialists by day and score with all the hot robber-baronesses by night.

My first avatar was a portrait of Serbian inventor Nikola Tesla. To me he seemed the most Galt-esque and I'm thinking of changing it back, but until then, I've got a picture of Big Brother from the 1984 film.

My original screen names were rather unoriginal, and my avatars equally so. Rockman, Tallgeese59, stuff like that. Eventually I got tired of the whole numbering thing, and being among the over 9000 Rockmen and Tallgeese(s?) already waddling about the internet, so like so many other people, I decided I wanted to be unique (IRONY'D!).

Me and a friend went to another friend's house for the weekend once and he was playing Metroid Prime, fighting against Ridley. I was going to remark for some reason that he looked like a pterodactyl, but at the time the word for the winged, beaked, ancient animal escaped me, so I blurted out the word for another animal with a beak, which happened to be a duck. I would then go on to describe anything else we saw on TV that had a beak as "looking like a duck."

I went to the fridge to go get my sandwich that I brought, announcing to my friends that I was going to do so.

"A duck sandwich?" one of them said. We were also in the middle of making a hockey time in franchise mode of NHL Hitz 2003, so given the amount of space available for our team name, we named our team "Ducksandwch"

In my English class, I was required to write a few poems, and one of the poems I wrote was the following haiku:

Duck Sandwich
The Lord of the Pond
Eternal Glory of Bread
Behold, they are one

Later on, I ended up entering it in my school's poetry contest. And won 1st place.

Sure, food names have already been around (as evidenced by the presence of 10 Dollar Bagel, The Potato Lord), but I think I can lay claim to the title of being the only person in the world who has ever written a haiku about duck sandwiches (Or at least the first).

As for my avatar, I made it with MS Paint to match my screen name as soon as I found out you could use avatars and spray paint pictures in Team Fortress 2. It is an admittedly half-assed attempt at a duck, in front of a slice of brown bread (white bread sucks) to represent a sandwich. One time a guy asked me "what's with the bird and toast?", so eventually I'm going to make a new duck sandwich avatar and do a better job.

nightmare gorilla comes from an old wrestling game. they let you pick two words to be announced as. for as long as i can remember i've been grunting and beating my chest like a gorilla, so i picked that one, then i went looking for an edjective to make the second word and when i came to nightmare i just kinda popped and fell in love with it. thus nightmare gorilla was born. "like a gorilla from your worst nightmare"

the avatar i use is an old secondary one since the "nightmare gorilla" avatar wouldn't load properly. it's mashup of some character pics from fire emblem recolored a little.

Ah, I always wondered who John Galt was. Atlas Shrugged was the bases for Bioshock wasn't it?

I think I just found my next Photoshop project... Which of course would need the 'Friendship' rainbow over them all.
