Argh... I'm so pissed off and I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else....

I pre-ordered Dragon Age:Origins Collector's Edition to get that armor that you can use in both it and Mass Effect 2. I put down a $20 deposit on it.

Last week they called me to tell me it was in. I told them that I wouldn't be in to pick it up until next week. They said fine.

I show up yesterday to pick it up, and they FUCKING SOLD IT ON ME. Told me they have a policy that states they only have to hold it for 48 hours, something that they COULD HAVE TOLD ME OVER THE FUCKING PHONE. Argh. I told them they were assholes and demanded by $20 back. I'll never buy something from them again.

I'm pretty sure that rule is listed on your receipt.

Well yours is the only one then. On my reciepts from pre orders it says just above the bottom bar code (and I quote) NEW RELEASE PRODUCTS WILL BE HELD FOR 48 HOURS AFTER RELEASE (yes it is even capped).

And the only difference between CE and regular is 3 in game items (a book, wand and helmet), tin, extra disc and map.

Well, I know I'll be able to find the game and hopefully a collectors edition... I was hoping to trade in a few games to knock the price down, and if there's one thing the EB's do here, it's give good value on trade ins. We'll see what I can do, I just feel like they don't give a shit about gamers.

What they said. ^

I'm quite fortunate too. I grabbed the last possible copy at my local Walmart.

Yes. I don't see how you could blame them though. You put down a deposit and didn't buy the game. So you expect them to hold on to a product that you may or may not buy and lose real sales in the process.

Considering that I already gave them money signifying my intent to buy the game, and that I notified the person on the phone that I was going to pick it up the following week, yes I can blame them. It's called customer service, and EB is not the only company that forgets about that these days.

The reason I could not pick it up when it came out is because I was out of town! How is that my fault? They just lost a sale and a customer to make a quick(er) buck.

That's funny because the gameslop by me doesn't sell you a game unless you preorder it. One of the many reasons I don't shop there.

My advice: don't pre-order!
It's the biggest consumer rip off since layaway and gamestop is the only retail outlet that managed to convince its customers that it's absolutely necessary.
Just go to a real store, grab it off the shelf and purchase it.

How is it thier fault you were out of town? And how did they lose a sale? They sold the copy you pre ordered and didn't have any more instock. And since it is impossible to sell something that they don't have. And to them you could easily pick it up from any other store and then cancelled your pre order when you got back. I am not saying you were going to but people have done this time and again which does cost them sales.

I will concede the fact they should have told you over the phone that they couldn't hold it because of company policy. And transfer your 20 bucks back to your card so you could use it at a local GS or EB.

I've had a local Game Stop buy my friend's stolen Xbox 360 and try to sell it back to him, knowing full well that it was stolen from him . . . a quick trip to the police set things right, but ever since then my general disposition has been something along the lines of "fuck you very much."

Not the first time I've been tempted to commit arson, but definitely the time I came closest to following through on that particular fantasy . . .

Retailers that do preorders do it because it is safer for their business.

Preordering plays a major part in the release of a game. It tells not only the retailers, but the producer, too, how well the game will potentially sell. If the preorders are low, they'll only print so many disks and retailers will have a small stock. If the preorders are high, they'll make enough for the preorders and a larger percentage more for off-the-shelf purchases since they are betting on word-of-mouth promotion of the game.

It isn't a ripoff since you aren't paying anymore than you would off the shelf. You, instead, guarentee your own copy on release day. Of course you have to buy it when it releases, otherwise the retailer will shelf your copy since you didn't show up for it.

Heh, my gamestop lets you buy the game at the day of release without pre-order, assuming there's enough left, I just don't think you can get it at mid-night. I never have any problems with any pre-orders or my gamestop. I think pre-ordering is only a rip-off when you get a game you don't want, and why would you buy a game you don't want? It would be your fault anyways if you did.

That's the key word here. I figured putting down 30% of the game's cost would guarantee me a copy when I was ready for it. I guess I was wrong.

i can sort of one up this

i went to my gamestop to pick up my copy of persona psp, i reserved it and paid it in full, i called in earlier asking if they had it, they said they did, i went in and they said they just sold the last copy then they "remembered" that a employee had one on hold and gave that one to me
