You know what I think?

I think Green Lantern should be a chick. And why not? The whole idea of Green Lantern is that it's a person - any person - and so why shouldn't it be a chick? Superheroes are a sausage-fest anyways.

Hal Jordan was great, but what if we did something new? How about a hero that girls could look up to? And please, no one say Catwoman because Halle Berry was awful.

Although, if you're going to give magic to anyone, and that magic is accessible via willpower, intelligence, and imagination then there's only one person truly worthy of that power, and that's Bruce Wayne. The goddamn Batman with a Green Lantern ring? Fuck yea.

I think that they're making the Hal Jordan story arc. Or at least the start of it. So, that's why they picked RR.

Plus he's a good actor.

I am not opposed to a female Lantern. But I understand why they chose to start with Hal's story.

I'd go with "the industry caters mainly to straight white males" (who also provide the biggest share of income, so I'm guessing the industry isn't so stupid after all), so if they want a character most viewers will identify with...

Also, look at the mess that was Elektra. The entire Daredevil movie was heavily recut to expose her character and spin her off, but who remembers her now?

They're just playing it safe is all I'm saying.

Hmmm...

I don't actually know much about the Green Lantern franchise, here in the UK, you have to go out of your way to read about most of less popular super heros.

Dude, why are you bashing on Ryan? He is a good actor, certainly not the best and he doesn't "type cast".

Oh I see, your just smashing the male Green Lantern. Meh, a female Lantern would be cool but depending on the actress all you would see is flying skin tight breasts (no objections). Honestly I don't know why your complaining, its not like its the end of the world here.

Did you just make that? If not that's the most surprising occurence of "If you can imagine it, it's on the internet (and there's probably porn of it too)".

OT: Batman would've turned it down. Members of the Lantern Corp do have to drop everything and muster when they're called.

OTOT(on the other topic): If there is a good character that's a woman sure give her the ring but if it's just some retarded Girl Power "I can do it on my own/Hear me roar" character I'll pass. There is a distinct difference between changing a character in a real way (i.e. The most worthy person on Earth was a woman) and changing a character in a way that just seems arbitrary (i.e. Peter Parker should be black because... he should).

I thought this was a hate thread for Ryan Reynolds and now I am disappoint. This guy is going to run the Deadpool movie into the ground like a rocket powered freight train falling from orbit. He doesn't have the chops to pull of a superhero movie(or anything else for that matter)
Didn't they can the Deadpool movie long ago?

It met with delays, but they now have a director Tim Miller (never directed anything before, is a visual effects artist moving up in the world) and it's moving forward again.

It's going to be R-Rated apparently, and the script allegedly very good, so I'm optimistic.

As for the Green Lantern thing, there are female green lanterns, they'll be appearing in the film, it just so happens they'll be focusing on the Hal Jordan character.

Your problem isn't with Ryan Reynolds your problem is with the original creator of the Green Lantern... and I'm pretty sure there are super heroines in the Lantern Corps.

So are you just hoping a female Lantern will take off on the power of the name alone? Seems like pushing it. I'm aware there was one female Lantern, but Jordan is the one most associated with the Green Lantern franchise, even after all these years.

I don't know anything about the Green Lantern story but I'll tell you why making it a women is a terrible idea. It's less goddamn MARKETABLE.

Well it's not like their aren't any female lanterns, pretty much every corps has some, with the exception of orange lanterns, the Indigo lanterns are lead by a woman, and the violet lanterns are only women (Which is kind of sexist. I'd like to think that buried deep inside of our Y chromosome there exist the capacity to love). The problem is that most of the earth lanterns have been male with the exception of Jade, and only hardcore fans would know who Arisia, or Soranik Natu are.

Hal Jordan was the first Green Lantern (well, not the first, but you know what I mean), it makes sense they'd try to be faithful to the comics.

Making the lantern a woman just because, there doesn't really seem to be a reason to, granted if they weren't following Hal Jordan's story then there'd be no reason for the Green Lantern not to be a woman either.

Totally they should have based the film on Mongo not Hal Jordan.

I hope it goes well so they can make a Hal Jordan, Oliver Queen road movie. Now who to play the Green Arrow?

I like RR. I really hope that he will do a good job too. In regards to a female GL, well there are within the core and if is a proper origin tale, then we should see some of the core and some chicks with rings to keep you happy.

Good thing the wife's not about. She'd gladly take your title as permission.
