Meh, I love multiplayer. I honestly think and no offense, the reason why Multiplayer is mainly hated on the Escapist, is just becuase they're bad. I am not even joking. So they wish to play Single-Player games due to the fact that they know they can win.

Then they go onto sterotype all Multiplayer folks and try to act superior becuase they like Single-player. Then they say how their is no Single-player games anymore (despite SP games outnumbering multiplayer games 2 to 1) and many SP-only or SP-mainly focused (co-op aswell) or games that will no doubt have a good SP, involved games: (Games that have been released and coming out)

Portal 2
Witcher 2
Dues Ex 3
Hunted The Demon's Forge
Uncharted 3
Skyrim
Operation Flashpoint: Red Rive (no Multi, only co-op and SP)
Dead Island
InFamous 2
Mass Effect 3
Dragon Age 2
Two Worlds 2
Gears of War 3
Fallout: New Vegas
LittleBigPlanet 2 (Still tons of fun SP)
Yazuka4
Catherine
Resistance 3
RAGE
SilentHill: Downpour
Battlefield 3 (looks to have an amazing SP)
Zelda: Skyward Sword
The Last Guardian
The Darkness 2
Alice: The Madness Returns
Dungeon Siege 3
L.A. Noir
Crysis 2 (heard it was good from some, a bit mixed, but w/e)
Minecraft (technically)
RDR
Saints Row 3
Dead Space 2
Dark Souls
and I am pretty sure a bunch of indie SP games.

Thats 33 Games.

Now sure, some of these games will have big Multi, but some already are showing to have awesome SP and then the already released games aswell are also good.

So yeah, I am pretty sure SP only ppl will get their fix.

Those are glitches?

Strafe-jumping in Quake 3/Live is common knowledge, one of the several aspects of movement that raises the skill-cap above a "hold W" game... id software even put out a patch to take it out, the community exploded, and they removed it, and now it's a feature of the game...Same with rocket-jumping, plasma-climbing, crouch-sliding, etc.... If those are considered glitches by the OP, please disregard my post.
He mentioned bunny hopping, so I'm thinking any sort of cheap tactic is part of the complaint.

Right, but, bunny-hopping is an intended feature in some games (Warsow, say)...

Sorry games can do only 2 good things
Storytelling and competition, making losers feel better about their pathetic selfs in only single player or some horribly multiplayer mechanics is just there for the money
soo....

are you saying single player is for pathetic losers?...or something?

sorry I didnt quite understand
*Somwhat crazy rambling*
aside from the whole internet thing (which is the main reason for me evn though I can occasionally go online)

thats completley rediculous, youre saying if somone can but wont play multiplayer then they are a loser and pathetic? that is unless they dont see the point?

or by single player do you mean the single player modes of COD type games?

never occured to you that I play for story and imersion, and hopefully to have some fun along the way...all wrapped up in a nice package, to me I simply cannot comprehend how the multiplayer expereice is better than the awsomeness of say...Mass effect or Portal, thats just me how ever multiplayer may appeal to others

I mean after all the horror storys I hear about multiplayer, as fun as it can be makes me want to stay right away from that crap (plus the internet thing)

I mean if you think the very act of playing a videogame "or not play it the right way" makes you a pathetic loser what are you doing on this site?

anyway sorry If I misunderstood you but your not making youre points very clear

Not 100%, for most it is, because the main reason the vast majority that doesnt like multiplayer doesnt player multiplayer is because they lose, you can see them making millions of excuses, noobteams, omg team doesnt help me and goes for his own kills, cheating, balance is broken, lag, bug etc.

Single player usually runs around horribly easy game mechanics that allow you to win(aka fun aka feel better about pathetic self), or portraying something as difficult while its easy to make losers feel better, or making a hard level and then dropping the difficulty curve making the loser feel like he is winning due to his awesome skill since he got affected by the hard fight....Very few ppl play single player ONLY to see the story and not because they prefer it from multiplayer

The VAST MAJORITY(so ppl wont cry about the inaccurate %s) of people who prefer to play single player and dislike multiplayer a lot are simply doing it because its not fun for them(aka they dont get the illusion that they are something more than a pathetic human by winning, since they simply cant win)

I dont say the multiplayer is full of skill either, it has many mechanics to make many losers and kids feel better without getting much disappointment when they lose, its just less than in a single player that 100% of the feeling is fake, in multiplayer it would probably be 80% fake(public random games) unless its in the final of a tournament and you fight the worlds best players

Pathetic ppl for me are everywhere, single player and multiplayer. In single player they are just so many more(and i hate them because idiots like them suddenly move to a multiplayer forum and unleash their horribly balance and idea suggestions while having 0 knowledge of the game)

P.s not having a bad internet connection or TRULY(very rare) not seeing the point in multiplayer is another story
I have 2 reasons. 1 is my internet sucks, I live in australia and try playing multiplayer with a 100KB/s connection that drops out every 15min. also what about game's like mass effect 2 and bioshock, the second reason I play game's is for a good story (most the movies these days are boring realistic drama's). so game's like assassins creed 1 and 2 and dead space are all for looser's? I win most if not all the multiplayer game's I play but still find them boring repetitive and unoriginal after 1hour. I understand what you mean by someone may not like something such as multiplayer because it is too hard (this was the case with mirrors edge single player, many people disliked the game because they found the combat too hard, I only died a few times the entire game). and some games like the one I just mentioned such as mirrors edge can only be played through single player and other games like geometry wars 1 and 2 are much harder than any multiplayer game you will ever play. If I do play multiplayer I play for fun because I really dont care if I have 30 kills (at the top of the team) and the look across to see 60 deaths. I find hacked games amusing and fun to play because they are something different (it is the reason I sometimes play halo 1 because shooting tank missiles out of an assault rifle is so much more fun than doing the same repetitive shooting).

Okay so to follow-up on this thread. I've just tried TF2 and um...yeah I didn't know I had it in me to crack plywood..(when I get pissed off online I tend to hit the nearest hard object, call it an anger management issue, fortunately paneling for my walls is easily replaced)

Crap, 3 of my knuckles are bleeding pretty badly, I mean the game really just plain sucked that bad, 12 straight dominations...um let me get some ice and I'll be back in a bit.

I'd just like to come right out and say that bunny-hopping is pointless and it will not save you. It just makes you look like a scrote who got into gaming because of HALO.

The focus on multi-player is just about enough to push me away from gaming after 30 or so years. It is lazy on the part of developers and it has led to gamers being willing to accept paying full price for a 4 hour campaign. I would not choose to socialise with most people I met on Xbox Live in real life and I don't want to spend my leisure time doing it.

I love FPS, I don't want to play multi-player, I have never paid so much attention to reviews as I do these days to get a good sense of campaign length (and quality, a good campaign will be worth a repeat after all) and if it is all about multiplayer the forget about it. Most FPS games these days are worth about a tenner from a bargain bucket to me.
I am more surprised that people think that a full-blown Singleplayer is somehow a requirement for FPSs, if a game focuses on the multiplayer and gives you an 5-hour singleplayer, its not laziness on the part of the developer, IT JUST MEANS THAT THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT FOCUS AND MAYBE YOU SHOULD PLAY ANOTHER GAME.

Seriously, saying that its laziness is like saying that its lazy for the developers of Metro 2033 to not include an expansive multiplayer. They simply have a different focus than other games.

Same, but it means they cut off some single player and almost all of the time all of co-op. I really just want a few games based around single player and co-op, rather than this endless stream of CoD and Halo clones that have a fucking short single player and say that the multi player makes up for it. Well what if I don't want to play multi player? Huh? What then?
Then play another game ffs, Halo and CoD are obviously not meant for you if you hate multiplayer. Also, clones of [insert the biggest FPS at the moment] is nothing new, and has been around since the first major FPS.

Anyways, there are tons of great single-player FPSs, you just have to look for them (a 5-minute google search is probably enough).
