Uplifting? seriously? I admit it ends alright for the main character, but the last shot in the movie is of ten year old boys with guns talking about killing other kids. There are also scenes of rape, murder, and torture.

I wasnt saying it was just like se7en, but I think that both are movies with dark themes and disturbing scenes. The difference was that in COG I felt like the creators had more to communicate than simply "life really sucks. there's allot of fucked up shit."
Like I was saying, May just be me but always found City of God's story much like Amores Perros's uplifting. Due to how so many ended up fighting for what they believed in even though tons all ended up on the wrong side. You could see though the main character's eyes the goals and ambitions that drove all the characters.

Though I agree City of God was dark, But over all it was more like Goodfellas then Se7en I thought. Though they were both thought provoking films and classics I thought on looking at humanity.

I just read the Synopsis off imdb, It seems like a very good movie. It'll probably be my next download.

I like to think of it as a more intelligent SAW film.

Can't wait to watch it

Stupid Comment:
7 is like a sideways "V".
Anyway, on to my real point. I never finished watching this film because when I hit sloth I was also hit with the worst intestinal pain I have ever experienced in my life and had to be rushed to a hospital. Once admitted to emerge my body decided it was fine and the pain went away so I could leave and take a cab ride home. Whoo.
The movie looked pretty intense. I'll have to finish it one of these days.

fair enough. Its also possible that you've seen allot more dark movies than I have and have a better perspective on it.

Am I the only one who thought this movie needed one more murder for the message to be complete? Everyone who committed a sin died except for Brad Pitts character after wrath, I for one, was expecting a murder-suicide or something that Spacey's character would have planned to ensure he dies. Still, a terrific movie with a deliciously evil, if somewhat unfulfilling ending. Worst sin to experience, wrath because Pitts character lost everything.

My favorite movie by a good margin. I think the writing was just awesome, every line revealed something about a character.

I think Sloth was the most fucked up of the murders(although he technically wasn't dead). I screamed like a ***** when he lifted his head!

I did not like it. I had reason to believe Brad's arrogant and short fused character would become Wrath.

Brad's acting was bad but when he reacted to his wife's head in the box, his acting became obnoxiousness atrocious. "no, no, not my beloved" he says in the same way I would insultingly imitate someone in an almost sarcastic tone.

not jealousy, envy. jealousy isn't one of the 7 according to catholic belief.
yeah sorry, same thing really, been a while since i've seen it
There's no need to say sorry, you were just trying to clarify what I was talking about in my own fairly inarticulate way. The truth is Wrath and Envy were tied closely together in the last scene. In regards to the other point, I think it is officially called envy but jealousy means exactly the same thing doesn't it?

Fight Club was pretty damned awesome, but then again, Chuck Palahniuk is a fucking GENIUS. I hear rumors that another one of his books is slated to get the big screen treatment pretty quick...
yep, his second book, Choke
which is Fight Club but with sex.

I thoroughly enjoyed 7 (kinda) and occasionally bring out of its hibernation chamber (also known as my shelf) to refresh my memory of the film. I find the films tone and the performances by the actors, although not the best works in any of their careers, to be excellent. The film also inspired me to plough through both Divine Comedy and Paradise Lost which expanded my knowledge on poetry, which is a good thing, and does give you some (although not many) insights into the mind of Kevin Spaceys character. The nastiest incident is most definately the discovery of Sloth; It makes me go very cold when i see. Very unpleasent.
