Killing an animal because it has felt some pain is a stupid thing to think.
Yes it is.
But I think it would be ok to kill the fish to survive, than hurting it for fun.
Not hurting it, killing it, than throwing it away.

I just think that animals are better than humans.
Do you mind if I ask why? I see this a lot and no one bothers to explain their logic behind it.
Well humans have started wars, killed each other because of nothing and destroyed the planet (which is not just our planet. We share it wich other creatures, which we have to take care of)
Animals would never do that. Sure animals kill to, but they do it too survive. Humanity is killing millions (even more I guess) of other animals, most of them suffer and die in horrible pain. This effects our planet. All those animals we kill, the toxic waste we throw away and the oil we take out of the earth effects our environment. And we don't even care.
If you're going to say, that we have to, no we don't. There are other ways to live and to support our citys with power without killing the earth. But we don't use them, because it's expensive.

And I ask you to watch Earthlngs.
Maybe than you'll understand what we do to the animals.

I sort of found the points you made valid...until you said 'Animals would never do that.'

Sorry, I'm not trying to insult you in any way here, or troll you or whatnot, but the fact of the matter is that they would. We have identical 'programming' in a lot of ways with animals; we strive to make life easier, more survivable, and most of all just downright easier. If a cheetah learned to set traps out of sticks and stones to catch bunnies it would. It wouldn't give a toss if it ended up crushing an unappetizing poisonous creature or anything, that would just be a whoopsie.

No, animals would be just as likely to fuck with things as we are, we're just doing what animals do but doing it better. I love animals, and I find myself weirdly desensitised to human suffering and deaths through the media, video-games, whatever. If I saw a guy go 'round murdering people in an action film (see: any) I wouldn't care. If he turned around and lightly slapped a puppy I'd probably lunge at the screen. This doesn't mean animals are the more 'moral' though; we are programmed to look after our species and not care about others.

A lion will kill a cheetah if it sees it; it won't eat it however. It just kills them to make it easier to catch food, it removes the competition and therefore increases the likelihood of its own species surviving. The cheetah world may have lost a pregnant mother laden with three cubs or whatever.

No, I love animals. However, we want to see ourselves as the evil ones.

Sorry to go very much off-topic there, but I just fancied being opinionated for a moment, sorry if this came across as smug, condescending, or anything else. It was merely used for discussion.

"A University of Edinburgh study found that sea kittens can remember information that they learned up to 11 months earlier, which makes them cuter and smarter than the president of the United States!"
-From the about Sea Kittens page, on the right side under Sea Kitten Facts (It constantly changes)

I thought that was hilarious, and I'm American.

Also, we should replace every instance of the word 'fish' on the box with 'sea kittens'.
Im so going to quote "The Wonder Boner" out of context.

I love animals but to paraphrase Jim Gaffigan, "... fun to pet better to chew."

Yes it would. But he would do it to prevent his family or group or whatever to get killed.
He wouldn't do it just for fun or because the cheetah isn't a lion.
Like you said, it would do it to make it's own speciels survive longer.
But humanity will survive without killing each other. We don't need to. Maybe when we still lived in caves we needed to, but now we don't and still we kill each other.

And you would realy think that a mouse would a mousetrap? Like we build atomicbombs.
You think an animal would be pleased when it bites of an other animals head?
I know that some humans are.

Also are we animals too. What seperates us from other animals? We are intelligent? I've seen persons that are more stupid than some animals.
Give me a reason why we are SOOO much better than animals and we have the right to take whatever we want.

I really hope PETA doesn't recruit your average American when it comes to intelligence, or else my worries for that country's future have just increased dramatically.
Your country already has no future; your too overpopulated with imbreding trailer trash who are overpatriotic aswell as the dipshits who campaign for stupid and moronic things.
Hello! I am an Australian and I'm going to be defending America today!

O.K. Let's see:

1) Inbreeding is a joke that doesn't happen in America, just like it doesn't happen in most countries. Even if it did generalizing the entire nation as inbreds is an idiotic and offensive view.

1-A) You might think "Why should I care, America is offensive to me, many Americans have disrespected me, fuck them". This is again a generalization. Condemning a nation based upon the fact that it has it's fair share of idiots is idiotic itself, showing that you have not entirely thought out your opinion or you would realize that there are many decent American people.

2) I will admit that there are many "over-patriotic" Americans but you must realize that there are way over the top patriots in every country. Americans are just a bit louder, and as they have a more numerous population there are likely to be more of these types of people. Also a sense of pride in your country is admirable, maybe a bit annoying but still you should not dismiss a country based upon the people who love it.

3) Overpopulation is a problem, but looking at it like some huge insult is both idiotic and confusing. Why do you hate a country because so many people live there?

4) PETA is American, but it has members in a lot of countries, and to say that this idea is entirely theirs is wrong. It is an entirely stupid idea, but then again it is not an entirely American idea so hating a culture because they have members of a world wide organization is wrong.

5) America is probably fucked. But to say that they have no future is again wrong. It might not be as "glorious" or whatever some would call it but they will still continue to exist as a nation, and to most likely at some point in the distant future work again to strive, as all nations do. A concept known as "no future" doesn't exist outside some form of continent devastating disaster, which is unlikely to happen.

I just don't like it when people hate groups of people based upon the actions of a few.

If you were extremely specific then i might agree with you but as what you wrote stands, you are wrong.
Thank you good sir for your kind words, also if sennz0r would look he would have seen that its actually peta uk (at least in the link the OP provided)

I'm embarassed to share the same planet with these retards. I asked myself if they could be serious about this, and decided that sadly, they probably are. But I don't think that anyone except maybe the craziest members at PETA could believe that this will actually happen. Still scary though.

You sir, are a dick. And the attacks from your post are deflected by the pure stupidity of your writing.

Moving on,
I made a sea kitten on the website! I wanted to post it here, but couldn't. Let's just say that he is as cute looking as he is delicious.
What? I thought people knew this once you re-elected Bush; that just shows that my comment is right about the majority. Sure there will be some intelligent Americans but they are heavily outmatched by there opposites.

I'm sure everyone here on the escapist falls into the latter category (the reason I visit the escapist is because it is full of intelligent conversation).

I think it's a, well not good idea, but at least they're trying to change it. I bet my ass that all of you guys eat meat. I bet noone has ever done ANYTHING to stop the killing.
And if something like that is the way to stop people to torture animals ( because thats what fishing is) than its a start, don't you think?
Except that it's PETA. You know, the people who picket animal shelters that euthanize, then they themselves euthanize 75% of the animals they take in. Point is, they're hypocrites, just trying to get by with the "we love animals" mantra, while doing nothing beneficial at best and being completely counter-productive and hypocritical at worst. If you really want to help animals, join the ASPCA.

You know, I'm a vegetarian *and* pro animal-rights AND i STILL think that PETA are a bunch of loonies. That said, their cooking mama take of is pretty hillarious, and my girlfriend did sqee all over their sea kittens page, so I suppose they're at least providing entertainment.

They don't quite get how to promote vegetarianism though. It's probably much more effective to try to make vegetarians seem like nice, likable people rather than trying ineffectually to make meat eaters hate themselves.

I think stick to 'hot girls of vegetarianism' posters. There really are some babes out there...
