Well, I'm appalled at how gamers treat their discs, I have a nice bookcase for my games and they are in alphabetical order. I recently bought a copy of Super Mario Sunshine and they had to refurbish it so much you could see straight through the disc :( I bought a new copy yesterday and have yet to try it yet.....brb.

Whew.

Best one I've seen yet is our local gamestop which doesnt give much confidence.

I Was looking in there ps2 section and spotted Resi Evil 4, I was like cool ill have me a bit of that popped teh case open and it would never run as it, it needed refurbing

So i took it to the counter and said can i buy it at discount since the disc would never run, the asshole (ya me and him dont get on xD ) says No way we send it to our warehouse for refurbishing, I was like ok... 1 week later im in the store again since i was near by running other errands. I spot the same case I was like Oh that was fast... Open it... Same Condition as it was a week ago I asked him DUDE WTF you lied to me you just waited till im outta the store and put it back, he was like So what? Buy something or kindly leave.

So I make it a point to stand there in full view of everyone checking the discs one or 2 have asked why and ive told em the same story the manager wasn't happy xD

Reminds of once a long time ago I had to sell off some of my excess stuff I didn't want anymore, the second hand dealer actually remarked how well cared for my stuff was, gave me a bit extra lol.

I always make sure I inspect the disc before handing over monies.

Only ever bought 3 games off ebay second hand and one from a shop. The shop one was in brand new condition, I swear it had never been used. The others were pretty darn good too. Always use seller with good feedback and check their comments section for other games they have sold. Also, make sure you comment saying their games were in shit condition. If you do that then others will see it and not buy from them so they will have to take better care of their stuff.

Let me just add the following games:

Dissidia: Final Fantasy
Star Ocean: First Departure
Star Ocean: Second Evolution
Crimson Gem Saga
Guilty Gear: Judgment
Neverland Card Battles

OT: I've never had TOO much of a problem buying games second hand. Games are usually in either great condition or at least playable condition. Well, except for a copy of Ultimate Spider-Man I got from a pawn shop....

With boxes, I bet mainly it's not a case of losing them, but not keeping them.

With my PC games, I keep the inserts and the covers, but chuck out the black DVD boxes, as they take up far too much room. The A5 folders I use for storage fit in the space I have.

I do take good care of my discs though - but I don't sell them. I like to hang onto my old discs lol, and PC games don't have much resale value anyway.

@Zachary Amaranth: In a way, I can't blame the retailers. Every store I've been to is quite badly lit. The retailers almost work in what I'd say is gloom and probably can't see the scratches. Though I have to salute your good fortune with your second hand games. :)
I don't know, I mostly see the ridiculously overlit retailers, the ones that use those horrid flourescents that used to show up only in rest rooms to show every scar, zit, and ingrown hair you've had since the age of four. I suppose retailers with por lighting are harder to blame, but they might want to check the disc inbetter lighting, given they can take a hit from both sides.

Still, I rarely have this problem, so I don't know how frquent it is anyway. I'm not saying it never happens, just that I (almost) never see it.

I embellished it a little (Couldn't remember the line for sure), but that's the original source, yeah. :D

I've seen this, but have never purchased a game like that.
I only buy second hand face to face and for most I get a guarantee for credit if it doesn't work.
I don't know how these people get their games looking like they do. It'd be in better shape if you stored it in a blender that was stuck in the on postion.

I'm considering making one exception for Psychonauts, which isn't available here. I found one online that I may buy.

Hmm I've been ordering preownd PS3 games from game.co.uk. Good prices and decent postage combined with surprising quality. No problems whatsoever with delivery or damage to cd/box.
Honestly, it would annoy me if my used game was in poor condition, but I guess you get what you pay for. Thankfully it hasn't happened so far. Note that I'm only ordering from their webshop cause retailers here cost 5 times as much and used games shops are a distant dream.

Only used games I ever buy are cartridges, if memory serves. GBA and the like. So nope, no scratches.
