This thread is dedicated to those items so well hidden that it you know you would have never found it without the guide...
As a matter of fact you wondered HOW anyone could have in the first place.

The Final Fantasy series is the king of this thread:

FFT:
- Steal EVERYTHING from Elmdor.
- Getting hit with the "Ultima" spell when Ramza is a squire allows him to learn the spell. Who the Hell would want to convert back to a squire at any point? Same with the final summon that I can't remember.
- When fighting Steel Giant No. 8 the most powerful weapon and most powerful shield are in the ground (Use the Move-Find walking ability)...and they have the names of the worst spear and worst shield in the game. You have to check their stats to find out otherwise.

FF7:
- Knights of the Round. Yeah...keep mating birds until you get one that run across the ocean, then go into the hidden corner of the world to enter a cave on an unmapped island. This cave contains a spell which summons King Arthur and his Knights.

I never look up for these things. NEVER. I'm morally strong and if I really, really can't find it, I accept that.

Oh wait, gaps in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. That was a looooong time ago.

Every Final Fantasy game. In FF 10 pretty much every ultimate weapon for each character was ridiculous. I think 1 of them involved dodging lightning bolts in a certain area and you had to dodge something like 500 in a row without being hit to get a part of 1 person's weapon. There is almost no way to find this out without looking in a guide.

Edit: And in FF 12 where to get a certain weapon you had to not open 10 random chests around the world.

Don't you ever feel bad for missing things?
Like on Blood where you find the secret area with the mimes and the dead duke nukem, now that was epic.

I assume you're referring to Eltonbrand, and yeah, gotta back you. *No one* got that without a guide.

FF7 - Bone Village.

If you miss any item in the game you can return to this location and pick them up.

FF6 - Wait for Shadow...down to the last three seconds.

Gungnir in FF3. How was I supposed to know that there would be an underwater cave that doesn't show up on the map and has a boss that has an item that only a lvl 70 useless class could get for you?

A ton of things in Fallout 3, like some Bobbleheads, the Xuanlong Assault Rifle, the Alien Blaster, etc.

Played through it the first time with nearly all walkthroughs printed out for me (or at least those from the fractions I could do.

You just gave me the idea to play through Morrowind again, sans any guiding... after my exams, that is. And no more House Redoran/being a good boy anymore. House Hlaalu, Thieves Guild, here I come.

I would have to agree and say that at least for me, this is the hardest one of them all!

FF XII was a good example. I bought the guide since it was collectable and game cheap when the game had just been released.
I was determined not to use it though.
One day my friend flicks through it and announces "OH hey the ultimate weapon can only be got if you don't open certain chests." "Which chests?" "Well that one you just opened was one of them."
I hit him with the book.

The Experimental MIRV from Fallout 3. Finding the Keller Family Transcripts is a pain in the balls.

I don't even know how the first people got that. I mean the developers must have told them. I wonder if the 11,171 gold stands for anything?

I rember that Island. It was like a year ago and my neighbor and I were dicking around in the plane and saw it. I did not know the birds could do that but good to know since FF7 has been on my list of games to play through again for a while now.

Also I think Morrowind is a good game for this topic to (also on the list)

EDIT
I think that is was his birthday or something countrysteaksauce I know I saw it on UESPWiki
