On the Zangief discussion, it's possible the writers just really liked him the Street Fighter movie (him, DJ, and Bison were the best parts of that movie) and wanted to echo that aspect of him (then again he's not even a real bad guy in that movie). Besides that's a great line "you are bad-guy, but that does not mean you are (a) bad guy."

He looks like Donkey Kong to me. I think the most impressive thing about this movie (of what I've seen so far), is the way they've managed to make their wholly original, brand-new character genuinely look at home among all the seasoned videogame icons from the arcade era and onwards!

Yeah, even the game he's from has a lot of Donkey Kong vibes.

I was hoping it was from Plants VS Zombies but it isn't cartoonish enough, ironically. Besides the PvZ zombies have no hair and no weapons.

Wow... This could be the greatest videogame film in history! All the characters actually look the way they're supposed to! I think it could turn out to be the modern-day equivalent of Who Framed Rodger Rabbit?

House of the Dead 2? I wasn't sure to start with, then remembered the dual axes and it made me happy.

Was House of the Dead 1, I remember watching the attract mode on a ferry when I was very young indeed, scared me shitless.

You know, that trailer was awful. I'm not trying to be negative here but it simply wasn't funny. It seems like Disney is taking the Family Guy approach and being like "Alright, let's throw in as many references as possible so people will be too distracted to not notice the terrible jokes." This just looks like another bad kids' movie with lazy jokes and an impressive cast.

The only this is had going for it was the amount of characters. And don't think I just hate kids' movies, Fantastic Mr. Fox and How to Train Your Dragon are some of my favorites.

Nope. Dinosaur, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, Bolt, and Tangled were all officially Walt Disney Animation Studios films. But they haven't given up on 2D films. I've heard they decided to alternate from 3D to 2D films(Before, they had Winnie the Pooh, and The Princess and the Frog. Next I think it's some movie about elves or something).

Awesome. Also, I'm going to echo the, "Zangeif is not a villain" sentiment. Why not Akuma?

If you go with the theory that Ryu is the main hero of street fighter then technically all the other fighters are villians since you must defeat them to beat the game.

But if you are going by that theory then you are not going by the game.
Ryu is only the main hero in the animes. Each character has their over arching plot. The fact that you have to defeat them is inconsequential as a piece of story, and as an effect to the story.
If anything they'd be antagonists in the loosest term possible. And yes, antagonist a villain are two different roles.
The only thing Ryu does different, is fight Akuma in SSF2Turbo.

doesn't antagonist just mean "someone who keeps the protagonist from reaching his goal"? Maybe in that meeting, "bad guy" just means "someone the player has to fight. Besides, who said Ralph was a villain? We don't know why he wants to wreck that building.

I'm just a liiiittle bit wary of this. (Zangief isn't a bad guy for one thing!)
If this was done by Pixar I'd be sleeping soundly, but Disney can be a bit hit & miss. But we'll find out this autumn.

Yeah, I thought it was odd that Zangief was a bad guy all of a sudden, but I thought that was just because I'm not that big on Street Fighter and that I had missed something.

I'm not sure about this movie, it looks like it got potential, but we'll have to see. I'll most likely get around to watch this sometime.

This must have Sora or some sort of Kingdom Hearts call back. If it doesn't the universe isn't worth living in anymore. Same kind of premise (person unhappy with their lot in life goes on a multiple world trotting adventure) and anything from kingdom hearts would be free. I know KH isn't everyone's cup of tea but if disney is actually embracing video games they might look into embracing some of their own.

Tangled? Gnomeo and Juliet? any of these ringing bells? this isn't their first CGI movie outside of pixar. But yeah the non CGI world is looking grim. Except for Korra. Legend of Korra is awesome.

To those hoping for an appearance from the Kingdom Hearts crowd, you might not want to get your hope up too much.

The framing is that this is all taking place in an arcade, and thus far all the clear, confirmed characters we've seen are from games that could at least theoretically be arcade games if I'm not mistaken. The way it's all set up, I doubt we can expect to see characters from games that don't have an arcade equivalent or could be made into an arcade equivalent. Which means that games like RPGs and Adventure Games or other games that wouldn't work so well in an arcade setting are unlikely to have any characters make an appearance - including Kingdom Hearts.

Maybe not, I mean Bowser was never in any arcade. He was launched on a nintendo home system and stayed on one.
