Days of the New is the only artist I listen to that I consider even slightly obscure. I don't even know about that though, any of you guys heard of them?
Days of the New was well known at one point, when the debut album came out. That being said I really don't care much for the first album but I love the music that came after the first album and still listen to the Green the Red CD's a lot. Still waiting for more stuff from DotN if Travis Meeks can ever come around and make some more music. There was some talk of Thrice in this thread, I actually own one whole Cd by them, Vheissu, and it is a great album...I should get more Thrice shouldn't I?

Some of my favorite lesser known bands I like to listen to would include Brother Cane, I Love You and somewhat forgotten great older music like Little Feat and Quicksilver Messenger Service. For local groups I miss Hot Pink Karma from the Michigan area, great two man group but I don't think they are around any more. One of my all time favorite little known groups will forever be Sky Cries Mary.

Saul Williams, Atmosphere (probably not that underground now actually but before life gives you lemons no one had heard of them), twin atlatnic but thats probably just because i live in the states, they may be more known in Scotland... I don't really listen to the extremely unknown indie bands, I was never a big fan of the "be obscure in order to be better than everyone else" movement. I like 90's hip hop and underground hip hop, but it isn't really not well known, it just doesn't get a lot of radio play. Hopefully most people don't consider A Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul to be not well known.

Nightwish, Flogging Molly, The Drop Kick Murphys, Plushgun, Most of the artists from digitally imported and Pandora.
Heard of them all except Plushgun. They all rock. (just looked up Plushgun, they're very good.)

Korpiklaani. Awesome scandinavian folk metal.
I like Ensiferum better, but Korpiklaani is pretty good.
They're both pretty good, in my opinion. Haven't listened to a lot of their stuff, but I probably would listen to more if I wasn't so lazy.

Streetlight Manifesto Need way more exposure. I don't know how big they are in the states but in NZ I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who knows em. Lol.
Totally ninja'd on this ^
Sorry man, there aren't many of us on the West Coast of the states, but after moving to the East Coast people don't give me a blank stare when I say I listen to ska, so there's hope!
Thank the lawd almighty!
A band that I'm really into that probably not a lot of people know about is Me Mom & Morgentaler, a ska band from Montreal that I ran into awhile back:

Muse.

Just kidding.

Dave Brubeck (although not technically a band). Perhaps Keane or The Coral?

Iced Earth, Sonata Arctica, Blind Guardian and Demons & Wizards are the major ones I listen to which is very hit or miss on who's heard of it (more people I know have heard of Iced Earth than the others, only because I'm in the US and they're a US band).

The Raven Charter, but only cause they're still semi-local

Other than that, most ska bands. Nobody has heard of ska because its not being spoon-fed to the masses by MTV and Clear Channel. Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish, Big D and The Kids Table...

The Sword. I'm all about them, lately. So much awesome kudos to the works of George R.R. Martin is nothing to shake your dick at.

look up the band
this is not a game of who the fuck are you
im not kidding that is there band name
I know loads of people who know the Band, I know the Band, this is more an age thing, because everyone of a certain age will have heard of the band. Anyone who's seen the Last Waltz knows the band, and anyone who has even a slightly in-depth knowledge of Bob Dylan knows the Band.

(I'm being pedantic I know, but this is a lesser known bands thread, the Band are famous, just mainly to an older generation of music lovers.)
I think he meant the name of the band was "this is not a game of who the fuck are you "

I can guarantee that someone else has heard of these bands since I am always the last person to hear of bands.
Heather Alexander Cruxshadows, although they're really big in the Goth scene. Blind Guardian. they get an automatic awesome in my book for making an entire album about the Silmarillion. Finally, no one ever remembers Five Iron Frenzy.

I have a friend who's really big into these guys. I haven't gotten into them yet because I'm still working through some other bands I've been introduced to.
