Ok, I know it's just a domain name, I know it doesn't mean it's going to happen, buuuuut....

For discussion....what do you want to see in DoW when it absolutely definitely comes out next year (I am an ork, so if I believe hard enough, it will happen)

One minute behind you.
Curse my dedication to last minute additions.

I'll go see if I can delete my thread and I'll copy paste my bumf here.

(Edit)

The title says it all really.

I saw the news brought up on a discussion board for tabletop games etc.
Following it up the website does seem to have been registered not only by Sega, but there is a connecting email that points towards a member of Relic.

Now, it has to be added that companies do have a tendency to grab websites and squat on them to avoid some other bugger doing exactly the same thing before them, so this news doesn't mean anything more than that.

However, I loved dawn of war that much I'm willing to allow myself to get a little excited over this.
Just as a little treat.

So, any thoughts fellow forum goers?

What direction would you like to see this version go in?
More of the squad based intimacy of DoW2 with personalities, war gear customization and tighter control over your whole unit?
Back to the base building glory days of the first game?
Or maybe even following the direction of mods like Ultimate Apocalypse which unleashes the god machines of war on the battlefield to bring stompy death to all the small and squishy infantry?

Me?

I hope for a larger scale.
Maybe not apocalypse size, but something approaching what they had over in company of heroes.

Something something, red wunz post fasta, something.

So, would you like to see the big stompers make a debut or do you think that would push the scale too far away from the squad control that previous games had and was that entertaining.

I am kinda torn.

The mechanics of Relics melee system animations applied to two titans (well, gargants, knights and lancers maybe) could be spectacular, but that's all it would be.
Spectacle.
If it marginalized another good element of the game at the smaller scale, it might not be worth it.

Gah.
I don't know which.
Part of me desires more HUGE things, but I still loved the degree of control you had back in dow1 and coh when it came to infantry.
Not much point in having occupiable terrain and run down buildings to shoot from if two seconds later a titan foot appears where your unit was like some mechanicus sponsered monty python reenactment.

Yeah, I dunno, as much as I loved DoW one, it feels kinda tired now gameplay wise, even the addition of Titans and superheavy tanks etc in the Apocalypse THB mod doesn't really do much for me.

On the other hand, as much as I love watching DowII replays the multiplayer game itself is just too hard for me, but the single player was great, retribution was only a disappointment in how watered down the single player was.

I think really that as much as I moaned about the change from 1 to 2, I think something closer to 2 would be preferred, but maybe with more fleshed out campaigns for the other races. A tall order I know, but dammit I want a proper campaign for orks and guard.

I think if they were going bigger, then as you say, they'd have to shift the focus up to Epic scale, fine squad control, at least at an infantry level, would be out, although I suppose you could scale the mechanics up to vehicle level.

I don't think Titans belong in Dawn of War scale battles, which DoW 2 scaled down even smaller than DoW 1's. That said, I would like to see a larger scale 40k wargame with Titans (edit: maybe something like Supreme Commander scale), just not DoW.

I am pretty hype though that DoW 3 may be on the way!

Yes yes yes.. wait.. this doesn't mean anything. It's just a webpage not an announcement.. It's possoble that they are just protecting the name and then nothing will happen with it. Oh well speculation time! If I recall right the 40k and the DoW didn't end up in the same hands, so I kind of expect this game to be a basic reboot.

Well, that is a good news or not, because...I just couldn't get into DoW 2, i tried, but...It was just so boring.

Yeah, i know that they designed the game as a RTT, but like i said, it just felt boring to me, in the campaign there wasn't any kind of challenge, and the multiplayer, while fun, just got old pretty damn fast. So, if there is another one coming, please, let it be at least like the first one.

Last but not least, because i know that in the base game, we're probably getting the Space Marines, Eldar, Orks and CSM, please...Let the first expansion have the Imperial Guard. I really miss them.

Hoping that if/when it's made it will be more like the first game than DoW2. Strategy games with no base building just don't interest me. The cover system in 2 was better though.

I lol'd.

OT: While I greatly prefer DoW2 for gameplay style, I must admit that DoW1's "pour legions of faceless troops on the problem until it goes away" is much more accurate to the setting. I'd like to see a best-of-both-worlds scenario: large masses of troops with named elite commanders among them or in charge of smaller, specialized squads. Didn't Warcraft III do that?

Since I dislike having to build the same goddamned base fifty times over, perhaps there could be a central command hub where structures like labs were built once for global benefits. Each battle could afford the opportunity to construct bunkers and radar towers and such to aid in that particular fight. Keeps the base-builders happy, removes the tedium of building ANOTHER machine shop and researching the same techs over and over.

I can only hope they go back to the old ways of doing it. While yes, Dawn of War 2 + Req's combat system was a touch better and it's animations were pretty great, I hated not having an actual base anymore, I hated the campaign being so easy because even though customizing all of your units was fun and dandy, it was very easy to create a team that wrecked everything. Along with the fact that you just auto healed at every checkpoint meant I never felt like I was going to lose or even come close to losing an attack.

I loved the original Dawn of War and it's expansion, I'd love to see another big base building RTS, since we really haven't had enough of them. Grey Goo was the latest I believe and that still didn't scratch the Company of Heroes/Dawn of War esque itch I'm having, it looked very starcrafty and seemed to be built from the ground up to play like it.

YES PLEASE! Oh man, I remember hating having to wait for expansions to play the cool races and one of the most basic races, the Guard, was always left out!

I'll only buy it if GW pricing is not in effect. If the full game costs over $100 (that means every race expansion) I won't bother. The DLC/Expansion practices of the previous games is ludicrous.

Hopefully the new games story mode will allow for multiple chaos legions/SM chapters/etc instead the usual Alpha Legion/Blood Ravens/etc. At the very least it would be nice to take the story away from the BR to some other chapter and have some new leaders for all of the races.

Please Sega, for the love of all that is holy do not mess this up. This has the potential to be amazing regardless of which of the two previous games it takes after.

If they can scale up the tactical elements of DoW 2 to DoWs army sizes, that would be great. I love DoW2's MOBA style RTS elements in Multiplayer, with a focus on a variety of Heroes and small groups of potent units. If they can translate that same feeling to a larger scale I'll be down for it.

Otherwise I hope they don't stray too far away from DoW2s multiplayer formula.

Fingers crossed that Relic are working on something 40k related.

Haha couldn't keep it to yourself, could ya? Fair enough, it is pretty cool they're at least thinking forward enough to keep a hold on the domain name.

You know what I want? Tau.

I want Tau in the BASE Dawn of War III game. Not an expansion. Tau need love. Peace through superior firepower and dinosaurs!

Alternatively, the Admechs and Knights. They can come in an expansion, though.

I don't particularly care if the gameplay is closer to 1 or 2, since I found both to be sufficient in their execution.

EDIT: Relic could bear to make Chaos more diversified, too. Have all four gods equally represented. Or better yet, not at all! Make the Chaos Space Marine faction into Chaos Undivided's Black Legion. Furies, Daemon Princes, stuff like that.

As well as peace through lack of free will, and mind controlling overlords.
