Any section of Serious Sam with Kleers in it. Freakin' Kleers, damn skeletons *mumbles*
Circle-strafing is your friend with those guys. Get to the outside of the group as quickly as possible then just circle around them blasting away. I hardly ever get hit that way.

From Serious Sam I'm not particularly fond of the headless bombers, it's not that they're hard to deal with or anything, but the damn screaming just gets into my head and if I play long enough I'll start to hear it even when I'm not playing any games at all.

The RC helicopter mission in GTA Vice City can eat a square shaped polygon dick because it's next to impossible, particularly on the PC where the flying controls are a complete mess. I love every other bit of Vice City except that one mission.

The Dromedary escort in Tachyon: The Fringe. Huge escort mission when you have, say, the space equivalent of a Spitfire, and your enemies, which outnumber you 20-1, use F-22s.
Correct if I'm wrong because it's been forever since I've played Tachyon but isn't that the mission at the very beginning that you're supposed to lose to advance the plot? Again, it's been years since I've played the game so I've forgotten quite a bit of the details of it.

Ditto, the only good things about the fade section were the extra stat points (Even though finding them was a fucking chore) and the companion dreams.

The Four Kings of Dark Souls.

Maybe there is a strategy to properly fighting them, but every time I fight them, in ends up coming down to luck on what attacks they decide to use while I am attacking as quickly as possible.

I absolutely love every boss battle in that game, but the Four Kings are just a pain in the ass. They seem to force my strategy into nothing but flailing and hope.
From what I remember, I was able to beat the Four Kings by getting almost literally in their faces on New Game Plus. For whatever reason, their melee swings seem to do less damage up close.

They were still a ***** to deal with though.

DC Universe Online is one of my favorite MMOs, and because it's superhero themed, more so than any other MMORPG, it's fun to make alts. Unfortunately the excruciatingly long tutorial is nonskippable.

When I first tried to play Mass Effect 3 I ran into a number of quest breaking bugs or forgot to complete some of the optional objectives, thereby forcing me to restart completely. I must've played through Earth, Mars, and Palaven at least 10 times before I finally did Sur'kesh.

It's not a favorite, but it's a game I very much enjoy: Skyrim, the opening sequence, Helgen. God. Damn it. I hate having to go through it again and again whenever I start a new character.

I love making new characters to play in that game. I love designing them and thinking of their back stories as to why their about to reach the chopping block, y'know? But then I have to go through that sequence of sitting there while General Tulius yells at Ulfric Stormcloak, that one rebel being a dick to that priest, then walking up the block and then DRAGON! Then I have to walk around the burning town of Helgen and pick between that Imperial Legionnaire or that Stormcloak Rebel to do the tutorial level. After doing it for the 27th time, it gets pretty damn boring! But you want to know the worst part? I can't bloody skip it!

You know how in Oblivion and Fallout 3 you were given the option to change your look/stats right before you left the tutorial level? Why couldn't you do that once you left the cave below Helgen? The sequences with the Legionnaire and the Rebel is more or less the same! And they both lead you to Riverwood, so what's the point?

After that, though, it's good enough.

It's only a minor one, but that bit in Half Life 2 with the infinitely respawning manhacks annoys the shit out of me. It doesn't help that everytime a group of them spawns in, my rebel allies immediately start trying to fight them while I'm trying to get us to the next section.

Also, any level where you loose all your equipment or experience and have to start from scratch. The post-torture sequences in most Metal Gear Solid games would qualify, particularly in 2 & 3.

Finally, half of the missions in Mass Effect 1 & 2 are tops. The other half are generic copy-pasted warehouses and dull gunfights and conversations that are a slog to get through. Most of them are optional, but there are a few nasty story missions that slip through the net like Samara's recruitment mission, Garrus' loyalty mission or the entirety of Noveria.

I recently finished playing the first Fallout, and it has certainly topped up as one of my favourite games. But goddamn that Mother Deathclaw in the warehouse. It was an absolute nightmare killing her, and I fear it will be just as bad in all future playthroughs.
That is bad indeed, my first time ended up being me saving every time I got in a good hit, and loading every time the mother deathclaw did. Not very fair, but hey, it's not too fair with her being able to attack 5-6 times in a row for 30+ damage non-crit every single strike either.

Also throw in another vote for The Fade in DA:O. One of my very favorite games, but this section is just dull.

For me, it was a nice big shot of psycho that got me through the fight. Severely reduced the damage she did to me. Still took ages to kill her though. I can't imagine how hard the game would be if you role-played a character who refused to ever use drugs.

Frontline in Metro 2033. What made the game designers come up with such a horrible level, and then to combine it with Nazi's who have magical pysicic powers and can see you in the dark from a good 60 meteres away...

The Gardens of Kadesh levels in homeworld are pretty horrible too.

OT: The part in Metro 2033 with the blobs. I can't remember what they're called. I never finished it before I traded it in and I'd love to finish it. I just don't want to have to deal with that section again.
Out of curiosity, did you realize that you could destroy the blob-spawners? Because I was stuck on that same exact spot until I figured that out. They just keep coming forever if you don't destroy them, but once you do the section is a lot easier (at least on normal difficulty).
Still a pain on Ranger Hardcore mode.

OT: dunno if these are spoilers but I use the spoiler tage anyway:

Borderlands 2, Bright Lights, Flying City mainquest especially in True Vault Hunter Mode, both the Stalker's and the Overlook defending part are a nightmare
You can destroy them, but it takes a mental amount of ammo which is better of being used to kill the bastard blobs before they go and explode on you :(

I swear i died on that level so many times for no apparent reason, i think the damage the blobs do to you changes from annoyance to one hit k-o

I do love Tales of Vesepria but it has two sections like this: Ehmead Hill and Zaude, the former contains one of the most difficult bosses in the game and is a horrid way to use the wake up call boss. I recently played with four friends and he still kicked our asses on normal. The latter is just boring and overly long with the exception of a few good boss battles.

Tales of Symphonia: Ymir Forest, made all the more infuriating by the fact that you have a character who can fly but doesn't meaning you have to go through a very odd and un-fun puzzle.

Twilight Town in Paper Mario:TTYD,it's really creepy and the whole back and forth between the town and the dungeon is tedious.Doesn't help that the villain removes the "P" from your text selection screen in what should have been a nice way to shorten the section in later play-throughs. But nope,it's another slog through 4 screens of annoying enemies and an alt path with the stupid buzzy beetles to get the stupid "P" back.

Also while I'm not sure I really love Strange Journey however I know I'm going to hate going through the Jack's Bargain mission again because of that stupid maze. Also another minor one is Torvus Bog from Metroid Primes 2,terrible section that goes on for too long with a boss who is sort of interesting but also goes on too long.Thank god that the next section more than makes up for it.

I want to play Company of Heroes again, but the first and most horrible segment of the game is..

well...installing it.

It'll only play after it has been fully patched. But it downloads and installs every patch independantly and it takes ages to download them all.

But Jesus, it took me forever to get past it the first time. I was freaking out. The game up to that point had been great, like a really lovely ride through the country, and then suddenly your wheels fall off and you plunge into a muddy ravine and land upside down, sinking into the ditch with no hope of escape. God, it was awful. I don't why it took me so long to figure out how to avoid those eye lasers, but I still get chills of despair every time I reach that part.
Yeah that boss fight was the one moment in the entire MAss Effect series that made me rage quit due to the game mechanics. One hit kills in an action RPG are not cool.

There's a great mod for that, let's you start a new game in a dwelling of your choosing with a little backstory to go with it: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9557

I'll give you a hint, the first letter is blight town and the last letter is blight town. I bet you'll get it.

In less blight town-y levels of painful... the libraries in any of the halo games that contain one. The first level of some many games because of that habit of starting something then playing the first level then leaving it for ages till you really hate that first level. The intro to SW:TOR 2. Obligatory water temple.

I imagine you'd have to rely almost completely on speech, considering Stimpaks are technically drugs as well.

I also discovered just now, that going after the Ender Dragon in Minecraft on Hardcore Mode is something I will only try once. Full up diamond gear, a ton of arrows and food, and still dead. For good.

Dragon Age: Origins - The deep roads before it gets creepy (I tolerate the Fade because of the stat-boosting spirits).

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines - The warrens.

KotOR - Taris.

KotOR 2 - Peragus, Citadel Station, Telos, and Nar Shaddaa.

Deus Ex - Liberating Liberty Island.

Most of those qualify as sewer levels [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DownTheDrain].

GTA San Andreas: The. Fucking. Plane School.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution: The boss fights and the docks level in Heng-Sha.
Deus Ex: The naval shipyard level (hm, there's a theme here.) These levels just strike me as really boring compared to anything that comes before or after.
Red Dead Redemption: any section involving cow or horse herding.

Dark Souls:

Upper Blighttown - I never go in here with any significant amount of souls, because it's such a ridiculously precarious place. Not only is it devoid of purpose (you're basically just trying to get the items and go to proper Blighttown), the deaths are frustrating and you practically have to do suicide runs just to get rid of the dart hollows. I am a completionist by all accounts, and even I, around my 20th time going through, am considering just using the Valley shortcut and leaving it at that. Screw the Ninja set, screw the Iaito, screw the Eagle Shield, screw Power Within. I'm done. It's not even worth it.

Lost Izalith - I enjoy the Crystal Caves and the Tomb of the Giants. I really do. But I cannot abide by Lost Izalith. It is boring as all hell, aesthetically as well as gameplay-wise, and it takes you ages to get anywhere. Taking out the leaping demons is tedious as f***, even if you're doing it efficiently, and you're wasting a ring slot just for the priviledge of walking around without worrying that you're going to die. All the interesting things in this area are NPC-related - Siegmeyer's redeeming charge, Solaire's encounter with the 'sun', the final Knight Kirk fight and the unnamed Sister of Chaos. But on the whole it's really boring. Not to mention the bosses. Demon Centipede is ridiculous because you can't lock on and when it's nearby you can't see what it's doing, and Bed of Chaos is the worst boss fight in the game, made tolerable only by the fact that it retains damage done to it. I really hate this area.

MGS4 - the first bit where they take your equipment. Put me off playing altogether, I was too burnt out after getting the Stealth Camo and Bandana in one playthrough, I couldn't stomach regular gameplay.

I don't understand how everyone can have so much problems with Blighttown, the dart guys are easy and NEVER respawn when you kill them, lower blighttown is no problem if you equip rusty ring, spider shield and black leather armor, because then the poison won't do shit. Queelag is pretty easy. Blighttown is nothing compared to Sen's Fortress, fuck all those swinging axes.
