My head just imploded.
With its immense depth, and just one millimeter width... like day & night to what I got from ME1.

Back to topic: Dune 2 is best.

I agree with you on this. Mass Effect 2 feels incredibly linear as compared to the sort of exploratory nature of the first game and doesn't really have to same replay value, plus Shepard danced waaaaaay better in the first one. I also don't think that Fable 2 was better than Fable 1.
Yes! I'm glad you agree. It's a very few and far between view. To me, the first game was a better game. I don't view linearity as a bad thing, but the first game allowed for exploration or you could choose to not stray from the story, which is a nice option to have. The inventory could get a little nuts, but the customization was more fun. I also thought the ammo system was implemented poorly in 2.
This too ^^^
I'll get back to you on this when I play ME2, ie. when Mad remembers to bring it.

For me it HAS to be KH2. KH1 was (and still is) a great game but KH2 is more in nearly every way. I sing songs to praise it and for me is the only GOOD game Squaresoft has made since their partnership with ENIX....
except that ther is NO CHALLENGE and the atlantis world was bullshit
yeah, I agree with you

Streets of Rage 2.

I might argue Baten Kaitos Origins being better than the first game, but it's debatable...and it's a prequel, rather than a sequel.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me was better than International Man of Mystery. Goldmember was the worst of the three, though.

Also Toy Story 3 was better than 2, and 2 was better than 1.

I enjoyed L4D2 better than L4D, and CoD2 better than CoD.

Aliens remains one of the ultimate film sequels. Evil Dead 2 as well. Transporter 2. Hellboy 2. Desperado. Those all come to mind.

Most game sequels have improved upon their originals, it would probably be easier to name sequels that weren't as good.

Star Wars Battlefront 2.

They took everything great about it and made it better.
I played that game exclusivly for a year and only stopped because the disk got so scratched. Good times.

The Godfather II

Gears of War 2

LOTR2

I heavily disagree with Mass Effect 2 being better than 1 and Iron Man 2 being better than 1. Why? Cause they weren't.
gears 2 was NOT better. at all. XD it had more epic synematics ad that. was. it. fullstop.
Horde = Skyrocketed Replay Value
removing guest from hitching a ride on a gold member = killer failure.
also, the raping of the hammerburst, failing to have an epic single player general raam ish boss ( scorge? come on, he was epicfail ) also, smoke nades that stun ( they fixed that, admittingly, but it was just the fail. )

il hand you horde though, hordes wuite fun... while it lasts. i like real player better though. also, 5 guys.. not the same as 4, 4 was in your face and personal at all times. 5 is more were a group yo! and the feeling that you dont have to do stuff cause you got enough other guys that will pull stuff off.

Assassins Creed 2 was better than Assassins Creed 1. Bit obvious, but yeah.
No. No it wasn't. By the time you've:
a) stealthed your way through the Terms and Conditions;
b) fought your way through needlessly large numbers of DRM procedures; and
c) assassinated the account creation procedures on every website and forum you can get an account for,
what's the point of actually playing the game?! You've pretty much beaten it on 'insane difficulty' mode already....

OT: I'm also for ME2 being better than ME1. I thought KotOR2 was better than KotOR1 as well (although I'm prepared to admit the possibility that some people don't agree). Also, there's pretty much no argument that Warcraft 2 was better than WC:O&H, and WC3 was better than WC2.

I know what you mean, most people praise that game like crazy and I really just don't even see their point at all. I liked it, but the first one was way better. I don't think linearity is a bad thing either but I think it detracts from a series that has already set itself up as exploratory rather than just straight through. I always found the inventory fun as hell in the first one, the micromanaging was fricking fun as hell but they could have had an easier way to display it. Also I agree with you on the ammo, I always seemed to have two or three less bullets than were needed to kill any given enemy and the amount of times I ran out of ammo and had to run around the battle field almost dying was ridiculous. I didn't like the regenerating health either, it just seemed like they wanted you to think about less things which is completely opposite to the first game.

Half Life 2
Kotor 2
I'd have to disagree with Kotor 2, but Half life 2 is spot on in my opinion.

Anyway, I'd say Starcraft 2 (and that's just considering what I saw in the beta! :D)
Fable 2,
GRAW 2,
um....Book wise, I thought a Storm of Swords in George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire was better than any before it.
AND TOY STORY 3!!!!

Gothic 2 > Gothic 1
First game had probably better medival atmosphere but second one had better gameplay, harder difficulty, nicer graphic, bigger world, expansion pack, freakin dragons, all you friends from first one plus some new, crafting, better quests, more spells, more weapons, more kinds of armor, more skills and more replay value.
