Really? You enjoyed NWN more than NWN 2? Without the expansions it's nigh on unplayable. Vanilla NWN is down there with Temple of Elemental Evil as one of the worst D&D games on the PC. NWN 2 was a HUGE step up by comparison.
Haha, really? I love opinions! I'm actually of the opinion that Elemental Evil is the best D&D game ever made. Well, other than Planescape but that game is pretty well on it's own plateau of awesome.
Gameplay-wise, I have to agree that ToEE is the best D&D game ever made. Story-wise... not so much.
I do prefer NWN2 over NWN1 in every single way except the multiplayer aspect, but as you said, lol opinions.
Ack, gameplay wise ToEE was HORRID. Pathing was the worst I have EVER seen it. Attacks of opportunity were so broken. One of the best strategies in that game was to stay where you were and let the enemy come to you, because going to them was just a recipe for disaster.
Now if you wanna know the best 3rd edition D&D game out there, look no further than Icewind dale 2. Great storyline, solid gameplay, the whole package! The first game was great also, but 2 took it to a whole new level. It was challenging, but it wasn't the broken gameplay that made it challenging. I still remember one of the early levels with goblins on wargs that would use drums to summon reinforcements so you had to rush in and attack the drums, but there were traps so you had to be careful. The little recon missions with my stealthed thief to make sure that enemies were not gonna jump me beyond the fog. It's one of those games where each battle can be a chancey thing, so you save whenever you can. Despite the fact that it is on a weighted points based stat system, it remains up in the top 5 PC games of all time for me.
Speaking of which, no D&D list is complete without saying that Baldurs gate 2 is the best of all time. Just in case you are wondering NWN fans, I don't play multiplayer, so single player campeigns are what I base everything off of. Now the original BG was a good game, and well worth playing, but BG2 just blew your mind. Only Morrowind comes close to the number of hundreds of hours spent playing this game. There is just so much to do, and combinations of parties to try in certain areas. Dragons, mindflayers, drow, vampires, golems and a wide assortment of enemies block your path, and like Icewind dale 2, it was sometimes frustratingly challenging, but not broken in gameplay. The strange thing is, I only bothered to play thone of baal through once, even after all the time I spent playing shadows of amn. I just felt that the game really didn't need an expansion. It was neat to see it concluded, but I almost would rather just play the original over and over.
