Yeah, so after almost two weeks, I got to play Mass Effect 2... played it almost 6 hours in a row yesterday, it was just too awesome.

But this got me thinking... why bother coming back to ME1? I mean, I could try to do other things, get different ending and save other teammates, but whenever I think about it... everything I found annoying in ME1, it's gone in ME2. Regeneration between fights? Yep. Better hacking/scanning? Yeah. More customization despite lack of equipment screen? Aye. A lot more enjoyable combat? More compelling characters and storyline? Lack of visible bugs, like the overheat bug?

...Seriously, ME2 ruined ME1 for me. Just like Neverwinter Nights ruined NwN 2 for me, and Heroes of Might and Magic III ruined HoMM I, II and IV.

Despite being another thread clearly made just to blow ME2's horn, I'm going to say Assassni's Creed 2.

I played AC2 and loved it, wanted the story of number 1 and am not finding it half as enjoyable. It's mostly the guards. Those paranoid nuts chop your head off just for walking past them.

Thief II:The Metal Age.

The game that took it's predecessor and made it better in almost every aspect. And the only way Thief III was better than II, was in graphics department. Gameplay, story, level design... all inferior in both I and III.

Assassin's Creed was fantastic, the second built on everything and made it even better. The second Jak game was much better than the first too.

I knew that people would say Assassins Creed 2 the moment I saw this thread.

Oh well, I'm going to say Beatles Rockband. I just find it so much better than plain Rockband. And it's not just because of the music, it's improved in many ways.

Baldur's Gate 2 some would say but I still prefer the first one for some unexplainable reason...Of course the second one is better in many many ways...

Games that are way too superior to the first game
Gothic 2
Fable 2
Fallout 2

hmm and Splinter Cell < Pandora Tomorrow < Chaos Theory < Double Agent...(that is merely my opinion of course...)

and Thief 2: Metal Age...

For me, Pikmin 2, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Fall of Erathia (I think that's the correct subtitle). I'd also say Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations, but I enjoy playing the series again from the beginning anyway, so it's a moot point.

Though, having the Beetles does help.

I'll have to say Mass Effect 2 too, it's so damn awesome.

I had this feeling as well, and it's what I'm going to say myself. (Your new avatar is hilarious, by the way)

I played AC yet again after I had gotten all the trophies for AC2, and all I can say is that it is immensely inferior. You'll feel gimped, considering that you seem to completely lack momentum, and the game's repetitiveness becomes very clear.
And then there's the story presentation that is simply weak. I had little to no idea what the name of the target was at any given time, and it was simply confusing to keep up with the progression, overall.

So yeah, AC < AC2.

I agree with everything you mentioned here. Only problem I had with ME2 was that rather than simply having to push a button to scan a planet for resources, you now need to manually scan it. It got very tedious very quickly. That part of the game can fuck right off. Also, I miss the Mako. =/

But, yes, Mass Effect 2, Assassin's Creed 2 and I'm hoping Dead Space 2 continues this recent trend of awesome sequels.

Well, No one Lives Forever 2 was defenitley better than the first, not by a lot though. Max Payne 2. Oblivion. Thief 2. jagged Alliance 2.

I found Diablo to still be better than Diablo 2. Nostalgia is a large part of it, but also the game is darker and I found myself getting more immersed in it.
