Baldur's Gate 2 some would say but I still prefer the first one for some unexplainable reason...Of course the second one is better in many many ways...

Games that are way too superior to the first game
Gothic 2
Similar to the way you've always preferred BG I over II, for some reason I always liked Gothic I way more than its sequel. (and let's not even talk about the shitfest that followed!)
I think it was the story. II was just so generic: Go save the world, kill the dragons, blablabla. Whereas in the first one, it was basically just a prison break. You never even find out if you really committed the crime you were thrown in for. Far more interesting.

GTA:SA destroyed previous titles for me. III is totally unplayable, and Vice City just barely. Also superior to IV though, as SteelStallion said.

Also:
Civ IV (Which was in turn destroyed by the excellent mod Fall from Heaven 2.)

Yeah, so after almost two weeks, I got to play Mass Effect 2... played it almost 6 hours in a row yesterday, it was just too awesome.

But this got me thinking... why bother coming back to ME1? I mean, I could try to do other things, get different ending and save other teammates, but whenever I think about it... everything I found annoying in ME1, it's gone in ME2. Regeneration between fights? Yep. Better hacking/scanning? Yeah. More customization despite lack of equipment screen? Aye. A lot more enjoyable combat? More compelling characters and storyline? Lack of visible bugs, like the overheat bug?

...Seriously, ME2 ruined ME1 for me. Just like Neverwinter Nights ruined NwN 2 for me, and Heroes of Might and Magic III ruined HoMM I, II and IV.
I agree with everything you mentioned here. Only problem I had with ME2 was that rather than simply having to push a button to scan a planet for resources, you now need to manually scan it. It got very tedious very quickly. That part of the game can fuck right off. Also, I miss the Mako. =/
On the scanning, I agree. But Mako? I was scared to death when I thought I would have to drive with Mako during Grunt's quest.

Not in my case!

San Andreas > GTA 4

GTA 4 is just boring and realistic even though it tries not to take itself seriously at times. San Andreas is retarded as hell and that's the way I like it. (Invading Area 51, Parachutes, Bumper cars, Hover Cars, driving tanks throughout the street? Yes please.)
Yep, that's the case I had with Neverwinter Nights. San Andreas is superior to GTA 4 IMO, even if just because I can run the game even on my laptop.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 was better then the first, but then again, Underground was the best of them all.

Gotta completely disagree with you there on all fronts.

I'd say Thief 2, Silent Hill 2, Mass Effect 2 (apart from freedom to play at own pace), and ...and... sorry, they're few and far between.

I'd go with the above and say Assassin's Creed 2, but AC1 is more pick-up-and-playable than its sequel.

Tekken 2 > Tekken 1
Tekken 3 > Tekken 1
Tekken 4 > Tekken 1
Tekken 5 > Tekken 1
Tekken 6 > Tekken 1

In conclusion Tekken 1 is now shit.

Persona 4 ruined Persona 3 for me... Its so nice being able to issue commands when I need them instead of relying on the jelly bean filled brains of the AI.
Though P3 has its merits and eventually won me over <3.

I can't believe everyone is forgetting Super Mario Bros 3 and then later on World.
Zelda had this as well, Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time are on top of the entire series, including the first 2 Zelda games.
Super Smash Brothers Melee was a huge improvement on the first.
Super Metroid made Metroid nearly unplayable.

Really? Awesome. I love P3, haven't played P4 yet... good to know it's going to be even better.

I dunno... While I think Defiance is the best of all games and Soul Reaper 2 weaker, BO2 was a lot better than SR2. Because, well, you can't judge BO without judging SR.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for Game Boy Color. The first one was a fun game which followed the book more closely than the movie. The second one added more spells and special abilities, some of the funniest bits in a Harry Potter game, lots of great minigames, and fixed the broken economy.

Killzone 2 comes to mind. Devil May Cry 3 is also faaaaar better than DMC2. MGS 3 to MGS 2.
And of course, Spiderman 2.

Really? You enjoyed NWN more than NWN 2? Without the expansions it's nigh on unplayable. Vanilla NWN is down there with Temple of Elemental Evil as one of the worst D&D games on the PC. NWN 2 was a HUGE step up by comparison.

Hmmm... shadow hearts was a big leap up from koudelka. Shadow Hearts 2 was better than shadow hearts, then they lost their way and released Shadow Hearts: To the New world, which was worse than even Koudelka.

Pretty much every tales game tops the one before it. I'm gonna go with Star Ocean games also.

L4D2, it was the same great game, just more of it with extras. What more could you want?

HL2 is a stretch but I didn't like HL as much and in my opinion I thought HL2 was a lot better.

Pokemon Gold was the second installment of pokemon games (after Blue, yellow and red) along with Silver and again in my opinion they were my favorite pokemon games. They added berries, day and night times, regions Kanto and Johto and a bunch of new pokemon but not so many that it got condusing.

KOTOR2 I can't remember specifically why because it's been a while now, but I just remember trying to replay the first one and thinking "I'd rather be playing 2".

I actually like Soul Reaver 2 as much or better than Blood Omen 2 but i was talking about Blood Omen being better than Blood Omen 1 for the psx, it's kinda obscure game at least for me, is like and aerial view 2D (rpg?) game. Maybe it is good for those that like those tyope of games.

Maybe you are talking about the single-player campaign. The first one sucked, I agree.

But the power behind Neverwinter Nights was in MULTIPLAYER. In modules made by players, hakpacks made by players, roleplaying servers, arenas, persistent worlds... Like a MMO, but in D20.
