Hmm... I prefer to go with moves that give the Same-Type Attack Bonus. The usual exceptions are HMs; my Graveler knows Rock Smash, but I could just as easily teach that to an HM slave.

My current team is as follows:

Jace, Gabite, level 28. Dragon Rage / Take Down / Slash / Sand Tomb
Raven, Empoleon, level 36. Metal Claw / BubbleBeam / Surf / Brine
Sparky, Luxray, level 36. Bite / Spark / Charge / Crunch
Gabriel, Staraptor, level 35. Close Combat / Fly / Aerial Ace / Endeavor
Magellan, Graveler, level 36. Rock Smash / Magnitude / Earthquake / Rock Blast

If I need a Pokémon specifically for HMs - which I usually do - I'll put one in the sixth slot and never use it in a fight.

@Everyone I always name my main electric pokemon Thunder, and then a pokemon with a high speed stat and U-Turn that I name Lightning, because they strike so fast, all you hear is the Thunder!

I have specific names for my Pokémon that I use regularly. Starter is always Raven, Electric is always Sparky, Psychic is Spoon, Flying is Gabriel, male Dragon is Jace, female Dragon is Rochelle, Ghost is Spook. There may be others, but... I forget them.

Oh, and if I ever get a Murkrow, I'm naming it Russell. Those who watch Unskippable will get the reference.

@171: I'm a particularly routine person. Plus some of them just don't seem right with different names 'cause I catch them over multiple generations.

The episode is, well, any involving crows.

I always give my pokemon several levels of nicknames.

Let's take my Meganium, Kougouko.
When I got her I named her Oujo-chan
Upon her evolution She became to meganium she was given the name Hime-sama.
When she fought the league and won I gave her the name Kougouko. As you can see if the Name-rater cost money I'd be dirt poor.

But on the other hand I always try to give my pokemon fitting nicknames.

... not that anyone particularly cares...
