GAU-8 Avenger minigun. That be the weapon that the a-10 Warthog attack plane were designed around. That's right. Someone came up with this weapon, and they designed the plane AROUND it.

(GAU-8 avenger automatically wins any argument about what gun is biggest. Loadout is a 4 to 1 ratio of Armor Piercing and HE 30mm cannon rounds. Interestingly, the AP 30mm rounds have a depleted uranium core to facilitate armor penetration.)

@Beren: I think that the GAU-8 would be able to do a fair amount of damage to a ship. Maybe not a carrier or a cruiser, but frigates and destroyers I could see it hurting. Plus, what is a warship without weapons emplacements but a target?
