@CA yeah, what I'm probably going to end up doing is go through the list of applicants and look at how the characters will play, and remove the ones who would play similarly/have overlapping domains and choose the better of the two.

What I'm bleahing about is publicly putting up who got in and who didn't, and considering that there are 12 applicants and 10 spots, that means that I'm basically not accepting two people who had the bad luck of having strong competition for their spots.

@Neo: The two universes I'm working on (one for a possible role-play, the other one primarily aimed at my own work, but could be an RP if I feel like it (and I get permission from certain people)[footnote]That's a thought... will have to check with Void. He might like the meta aspect of the whole setup.[/footnote]) are coming along alright... but I could do better on both of them. A lot has yet to be confirmed or properly written up.

@Berenzen: Picking between two different but the same characters can be difficult. It's times like those I turn to a co-GM or impartial friend for help. I figure at the end of the day, it comes down to two things. First, which characters, well, speak to you, tell you a better story? Which ones do you think will give the reader a better tale?

(Side Note: I didn't say 'entertaining' or 'fun' because that's not the way I work. I believe that characters designed purely for fun will always be inferior to characters designed to fit well within the story. Unless, of course, they can balance the two perfectly and remain a good character. The comic relief, if you will.)

And second: which of the writers do you have better experiences with? Who do you think you can trust not to screw things up? And who do you know and recognise as being entirely abhorrent?

I feel that those two criteria are good to consider when looking through applicants for a role-play.
