I am a Christian, and they a confusing old testament jews and the laws governing their society with the laws governing modern Christian behavior in the midst of a Secular Society. God doesn't want Christians stoning anyone, its just ignorance to the proper context.
That's not a valid argument since the New Testament frequently tell the reader to show full respects for the Old Testament as well.
As for what God wants, no one in the bible seems to be quite sure of that actually. Sometimes he wants his people to be baby-raping murderers who enslave non-believers. Other times he wants them to be nice and cuddly with everyone else.
And once again we get back to what I've said before: the bible wasn't written by God, it was written by people. Go is infallible, people are fallible in the highest degree. Therefore there's not really much reason to adhere to exactly EVERYTHING written in the bible even if some passages in the bible tells you too. Your religious values should rather be governed by your own personal faith rather than wha't written in some metaphorical fairytale book. If your personal belief is in a God that's loving, forgiving and caring and that he wants his people to try follow his example, then do so. As long as you let God do all the judging instead of trying to do "God's work" yourself...
