Oh you are absolutely right, we don't know enough about the game yet. I will say this, though, that system for KOs that they explained during the press conference sounds terrible. That part they should have copied from Smash Bros. Here's hoping it's just one of many game modes.

Also, welcome to the console wars. Everything is going according to plan.
After doing some research it sounds like this: to get points you need to KO another player. To do that you need to charge up your AP to perform a super move. You gain AP be damaging other players and lose it by getting damaged.

It doesn't sound to bad to me, it might make the game more accessible to people who haven't memorized a character's move set. Though if some of the first tier supers are overpowered then it could create a few balance issues.
Ah.. that sounds like a terrible system to me. Like, when you get your ass handed to you early on, you potentially just get dominated the entire game. And I don't know what Smash Bros you played, but there are no moves that are complicated in execution in Smash Bros. It's always either tap or hold in one direction and press a button.

Yeah when nintendo comes with something it is silly stupid and gets laughed at then another company comes with it (like sony) then suddenly it is gods gift to men for many people.

That is something that ticks me off.

To be honest, this game will probably take some heat off of nintendo to add more and more characters every damn year. Don't lie when you say "the idea of Kratos in a 'smash bros'-style game hasn't been passed around." So it will be on Playstation, even I have a friend with a PS3 so it really doesn't bug me, still get to play it.

It can be argued that the format is a (fingerquotes) "Complete IP Ripoff", but they have to start somewhere, right? I mean who else but nintendo could create a genre of 'cluster-fuck fighting games' like nintendo.

So my two questions are this: Nintendo fans, how would YOU propose they make a 'cluster-fuck fighting game' without taking notes from Smash Bros? Playstation fans, how would YOU like it if your entire fanbase was characterized by the loudest toddlers on the network who complain and shout ignorantly of their surroundings?

why are trying to ruin it for the people that want to?

People seem to get some sort of violent cathartic reaction to ruining things that they don't like for people that do like whatever it may be.

Anyway, OT:

Nintendo fans get hated on more than... well, probably any other major group of people on these forums. And I'm going to agree with the few people that said "Making PS All-Stars a Smash Bros. rip-off is the best thing Sony could do for it." because... well, I love Smash Bros.. More of it with a completely different cast, locations, and possibly game modes is just awesome.

Stupid PR jokes aside, it really looks like a poor SSB clone. I was expecting more from Sony: a better, PS exclusive cast to start. Nintendo can get away with it since they have an established franchise, but throwing in the Big Daddy just feels kind of random. Also: having people HAVE to use super moves to score kills? What are you guys smoking.

Have you been in the "Will the WiiU be outdated thread?"

It's pure Nintendo hate in their, you aren't some "persecuted minority".
The "Nintendo , more the casual" topic is getting even worse due to a certain obnoxious poster that just flames people liking nintendo

That's not really accurate, Nintendo get laughed at because they are constantly running to every new idea/gimmick they can think of then and then dropping them almost as soon as they're out the door.

Other companies get stick too, (Sony's Move device had the arse ripped out of it for being a painfully blatant Wiimote rip-off) but then some companies deserve to be commended for improving on the original idea (everything I've read/seen suggests to me that Kinect is far superior to most anything the Wii ever offered.)

The difference is that a lot of Nintendo fans for some reason take it upon themselves to get bent out of shape and vehemently defend the company as if it cares what they, or anyone else, thinks about anything.

Well, it's obvious that they took heavy inspiration from Smash Bros.

That being said, Nintendo doesn't own full rights to the idea of popular characters from different games fighting to the death, and I have no problems with what Sony's doing.

I wish more games tried to rip off Super Smash Bros honestly. I'd love to see some other fighters aimed at people who aren't exactly the best at fighting games.
Too bad I don't have a PS3, otherwise I might actually pick this game up(I mean, Sly, Jak, and Ratchet can make any game awesome).

I think the reason a lot of people are crying foul is because Nintendo games usually get labelled as formulaic. Sure Zelda is part of the action adventure genre but it has a very distinct layout and experience. Metroid is simply a platformer but it and castlevania pioneered the "metroidvania" genre. Nintendo games have always had very specific formulas so a game that heavily borrows from them are usually labeled rip offs. Smash bros is no exception. A game where multiple IPs come together in a fighting game with platforming elements is more specific than fighting game which is why I think people see it as a rip off. Also no being an answer to does not exemplify you from being a rip off. You can rip off something wholesale and it would still be an answer to by simply competing with it.

The whole suddenly dying thing is pretty disconcerting and those super moves will wipe you out. Also, Sly felt under-powered when I played him, and I like Sly, SO IT SUX!

See, the thing is, SSB works because Nintendo has all those iconic characters. Playstation doesn't have that luxury.
You obviously didn't see me squeal with delight when I found out Sweet Tooth is in the game, then.

It is an interesting proposal you have there, it's one they have already done or had third parties already done, but I suppose your main idea was to keep the character line up but instead make it closer to the 1v1 fighter format that most are used to. I can see that going well, but even as far as absurdity goes, the game would still come out like a Marvel vs Capcom cluster-fuck instead of a SSB-style one.

I think it comes from the idea of just having all these crazy people from different games in one place that made the SSB games excel, which I could see why they tried it that way.

As for all of your 'why' questions, you must already figure someone else is poised to ask 'why not' everytime? Not me, mind you, but I like to point out that sort of thing.

My final point lies in the idea of 'competition', it really doesn't matter if the idea is refined or not, if enough people play it, a range of tournaments and competitions on greater scales will follow.

We're treated with the most idiotic comments from people who have never played the games, looked down on when we buy a console that changes the way we play games rather than sticking to a formula, and are generally just treated like children.
Puh-lease.

"You've never played the games" is generally whipped out as a variation of "no true scotsman." It's trotted out with the mentality that nobody who's actually played a Nintendo game could EVER criticise it.

You're also grossly misrepresenting why people "look down on" the Wii and its purchasers. I half expected you to proclaim, "innovation!" there.

I'm guessing there's a reason you believe Wii owners are treated like children, but it's not the one you are thinking of.
