On another totally unrelated note, Jumplion got it.

Just think of Killzone to being the Crysis of the PS3.........? Only thing Crysis really "innovated" on was Hardware specs and graphics. But when you compare Deatharea to Sobalert, Killzone 2 is much more atmospheric and uses the visuals to it's advantage while Crysis just put in a bunch of pretty flowers because every other FPS was garb and gray so they could say "We're different!".
No.
Crysis did not went the "flowery" way to be different. Crysis went that way because Cryteck has a history with making their games situated in the middle of forests/jungles/any kind of vegetation. It's not such a big coincidence that their last game was Farcry, a game where it literally took place in the middle of jungle.
You're saying that it's more atmospheric because you prefer the universe. There's nothing pointing that Killzone 2 is more atmospheric then Crysis.
Crysis wasn't a innovative game, neither is Killzone 2. That I'll grant you.
Ho ho, how flattering.
I think it's safe to assume that atleast a subconscious reasoning for being all flowery and green was so that the game could easily differentiate itself from the other FPSs out there. Since they already did something similar with Farcry, they hit two birds with one stone by going the path they are now known for and being able to make their FPS stand out.
But whereas Crysis was pushing graphics, Killzone 2 is pushing
everything else.
Please compare this Killzone 2 Gameplay [http://www.gametrailers.com/player/44981.html] to this Crysis Gameplay [http://www.gametrailers.com/player/27855.html] and try to observe things other than what you see and how graphical they are. Listen to the sound, look at the animations, watch the physics and death animations, look at the pacing, feel the intensity of each of those battles. If you really can't really see the differences between these then you're blind and/or deaf.
Now, these two games play differently, Crysis makes you a one man army and Killzone 2 makes you an ordinary soldier trying to fight for his life, but the principle is the same.
I don't know if I'm arguing with you or just rambling and quoting you gives me an excuse to show off my opinion on that, BUT the deed is done!
EDIT: And oh GOD don't get me started on the whole "innovative!" and "gimmick!" bullshit I hear everywhere! Those words are used and mixed up so much they've lost their meaning.
