I'm thinking of a more urban fantasy setting - Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is a good example, also sort of VtM Redemption. Maybe something based on Shadowrun. Also, Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura however, that's less of urban fantasy but still not the standard Tolkein thing. Anything like NWN, DA:O, the recent KoA just uses recycled ideas. I'm sick of seeing the same races doing the same things in the same era over and over again. Put them somewhere else, make them do something different. At least change the era - give them access to firearms - that would make a difference (or it should - it didn't in WoW, for example).
Ah yes, VtMB, I played that for a while.

So like.. Elves.. in SPACE!?
Gnomes in space? There should definately be more steampunk games :|. That art for Steampunk Batman looked rather cool.

Does Bioshock Infinite count as a fantasy steampunk game?

Prison setting for a Wii game. Imagine it. Using the Wiimote as a shiv, having the Wiimote vibrate like something that vibrates a lot to emulate the difficult involved in not the soap, having to hide the Wiimote in your anus to stop guards from finding contraband.. There should be more games in a prison setting.

I would like more settings set in harsh winter climate, like the arctic. I know Skyrim just came out but the winter there is so mediocre and has no bearing on gameplay. That is why I liked the Penumbra games, reminded me of The Thing.
I would also like to see more games set in a Renaissance type setting, or even a mix of fantasy/steampunk like Arcanum.

We should have more games set on a sub-atomic level. Where you play a plucky electron out to stop an army of evil neutrons from taking over. Yeah, that could work...

I'd pay good money for a well made WWI FPS, and I'm not even a big fan of FPS games. People say it wouldn't work because just sitting in a trench getting diseases is boring, and yes I agree with that. However, WWII shooters usually put you right into the interesting parts, skipping the boring, and I don't see why a WWI shooter couldn't do the same. And as far as I know, the eastern front was more mobile, so you could have other than trench levels as well. I think it should be more on the realistic end of the spectrum, though.

WWI would make for a really interesting setting, I think. Battle of the Somme, anyone?

I choked on my breakfast. Well done.

I also agree on the fantasy games in an urban setting, and snow/arctic. Also more games set in Britain.

YES! I had forgotten about that. I really want more of them. Why don't we have more? We need more.
Could you name a few? I can't for the life of me create an imagine or an example :|.

Say Neverwinter Nights (can;t remember, but I think it was 2) where you start off in a city. (Only played for an hour or something :p)
Not a game but a visual novel, but they are both interactive media so screw it, but Fate/Stay Night. Takes place entirely in a modern city, with magic, heroes of the past, and 100 hours of intense battles and amazing story.

Ancient Greece. A free roaming game set in Athens, Sparta and Corinth. Maybe an Assassin's Creed game after AC3. That would be awesome.

i agree that WW1 is highly unexplored. but this is due to the fact that WW2 was much more exiting and had machinery, that apparently gamers love.
What i wuold really like, and i said it before, is both sides of the front. now we are treated by a LOT of allies side of game story. we need some stories from nazi and soviet fronts too. would really love to play that.
What we also need is at least some openworld games (like gta, saint rows, ect) set into eastern europe. that is very unexplored and intresting side and it would definatelyl be a break between the neverending forest of skyskrapers we get in games now. ofc such city is harder to code i guess.
Also we need more turn based strategy in future. we got WAY TOO MANY such strategy games in past, civilization and the such. however we are lacking a lot of future for them. i understand that creating technology for future woudl be hard to predict and whatnot, but it feels like Alpha centauri was the only one that got that somewhat right. on theo ther hand, we got too many shooters form the future.

Modern day Japan. I can only think of two games set there.
Are you being serious? I'm not even into Japanese stuff, but Katawa Shoujo, The World Ends With You, Catherine and Persona are just some examples I can think of off the top of my head.

Personally, I'd like more games to be set in England. And not the stereotypical 'awful cockney accents with red buses and telephone boxes everywhere' England that pops up all over the place, just... you know, England. America's not the only place in the world.
TWEWY's one of them. Catherine's set in New York.

Sorry I forgot about Persona, though.

Fantasy games set outside of the cliche Tolkein Medieval times. Where's the fantasy games set in an urban setting?
This put me in mind of Artemis Fowl. I'd be cool rockin' the LEP badge in a game. Then again games on licences like that tend to suck. Former Bioware employees, write me a similar universe!

Ah, right... sorry about that. Still, just with how the Japanese entertainment industry works, I'm certain there are a lot more.
No prob. Have to agree with you about England. Because in games it tends to either be an odd postcard version or non-existant.

I mean, most games depiction of it is the equivilant of a game where you walk into central park and see loads of fat people eating immensly greasy burgers.

What settings do you think should be used in games more?

I think We need more WW1 games, although not neccisarly a FPS , A silent hill kinda horror game could be good in the trenches and no mans land, I mean that place is freaky as shit!
I don't know if you were into this kind of thing but I REALLY wish Call of Duty would go back to WW2! That was back when it was good!

OT. A setting I would REALLY love is London! And not stereotype 'Cor Blimey' London but a real London! Rockstar Studios is set up in London! I'm sure they could make a great English game!

We could get back to WW2? I mean, we've had loads of games that came out like a decade ago, but imagine the first Call of Duty or Medal of Honour: Allied Assault with current-gen graphics and gameplay (except for the faster-pased and noobified gameplay introduced after Call of Duty 2.

well, there could be world with all that you can't imagine, or with things you can't comprehend or remember even if you saw them...

but i agree, Planescape is the ultimate, best and most amazing setting i've ever seen in rpg, i can't for the world of it understand why there was only one game made in that world

I'd like to see more of the rise of the British Empire, especially if we could go a hundred years before and see the MASSIVE wars with Holland and Britain taking on Spain/Portugal. Huge time span but there are so many conflicts and so much intrigue, possibly an RPG or an RTS...whatever, the naval combat alone...

Or indeed, Genghis Khan and his Mongol empire, that would be a pretty damned fun game to play.
